Fitness Tips for Teens

j0443992While childhood obesity is at all time highs, there are some teens getting into fitness earlier than ever. Whether this is a result of the obesity epidemic or something else, we cannot be certain. What we do know, however, is that when younger people get involved in fitness they must be fully informed on just how a fitness program can affect their body, their confidence, and their growth. On one hand, fitness tips for teens need to take the fact that their bodies are still growing into consideration. On the other, however, teens are young adults that can benefit from many of the same tips we give to our adult clients and readers.

When discussing fitness tips for teens it would be remiss of us not to address some safety concerns. During the teen years, the human body goes through drastic changes. This can be characterized by fluctuations in metabolism and weight gain, or loss, in different areas of the body. Often we see teen girls in particular developing poor self image around these years. A venture into fitness, for these girls, can be self destructive if not approached with a healthy mindset.

Learning how to exercise and how to fuel your body for a fitness lifestyle is key when addressing fitness tips for teens. The more you work out, the more you need to pay attention to your diet. Too much of the wrong foods and you may not see much progress no matter how often you are working out. On the opposite end of the spectrum, however, if you eat too little or restrict your calories too much, your body won’t have the fuel necessary to maintain your workouts. Balance is key here and a little trial and error may be necessary.

In general, fitness tips for teens aren’t all that different from fitness tips for adults. When a teen wants to get involved in a fitness program a quick chat with a doctor would be beneficial to lay some groundwork. Aside from that eating well, working out safely, and maintaining a healthy body image will set them on the path to lifelong fitness.

If you are a teen or know a teen who wants to start a new workout program, consider some of the dance workout DVD programs we have. Hip Hop Abs and Turbo Jam are especially popular with teen girls and are a great way to get started.

Workout Tips for Teens

j0438392Young adults are concerned about their bodies, and rightfully so. As you move from childhood to adulthood your body goes through tremendous changes. This is a great time to lay a strong fitness foundation, making good habits to last a lifetime. Interestingly, however, workout tips for teens are pretty much identical to adult workout tips.

Sure your body is still growing as a teen and you may have completely different nutritional needs. But, for the most part, you can follow adult fitness plans as if they were made for you. Workout tips for teens are easy to come by when you realize this.

Workout tips for teens are all about moderation and balance. Whether you are an overweight teen that needs weight loss advice or a physically fit teen that wants to reach your maximum fitness potential, learning to balance that with a healthy diet involves a certain amount of fitness knowledge and this is a great place to get it.

One thing to keep in mind, as a teen, is that your body needs nutrients. While being fit is great and staying in shape can be fun, you must fuel your body for maximum performance and results. In other words, you have to take in enough calories to replace those that you are burning through!

A good word of advice is to talk to an adult about your fitness plans, whether that’s your doctor, or your gym teacher. An adult with some fitness knowledge can be a great tool in assisting you to reach your fitness goals.

Also, take some time to find the right fitness program for you. Turbo Jam is a fairly popular program for teen girls, as is Hip Hop Abs. P90X tends to be a big hit with young men. Choose wisely and have fun!

About Physical Fitness for Teens

j0439500Not quite a child and not quite an adult, teens have their own fitness and health concerns. With childhood and adult obesity at all time highs, there is no doubt that teens are struggling as well. Physical fitness for teens should be a priority for parents everywhere. For the teens who aren’t involved in sports or activities, this is especially true.

Physical fitness for teens really isn’t all that different from adult physical fitness. As a matter of fact, most teens could use the same fitness programs as you or I. The question is, would they be interested in them?

Finding a fitness program that a teen will enjoy is the tricky part. Just like adults, these people have already established certain likes and dislikes. Some may enjoy dance while others would prefer to strength train and lift weights. For each teen, the potential preferences are as wide as yours and mine.

Physical fitness for teens who enjoy hot music and dance, things like Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs may be appealing. This is particularly true with teen girls. These workouts give them the opportunity to get down and let loose without feeling embarrassed or self conscious like they might in gym class.

For boys or even girls who aren’t into dance, the more strength training focused ChaLEAN Extreme could be a good fit. This program works to develop muscles and definition. For overweight teens this is perfect because, as Chalene Johnson says: “Muscle burns fat!”

Some teens will be as resistant to physical fitness as they are to brussel sprouts. Shoot, some teens are resistant to anything that isn’t their idea. Perhaps allowing them to choose a program will help them take ownership of it. Ask them what they would like to do to stay fit. Be prepared to join in if that’s what it takes.

Physical fitness for teens doesn’t have to be all that different from your own physical fitness. Because they may still be growing, however, be cautious of encouraging overly restrictive dieting. Also, if your teen is interested in supplements, you may want them to speak with their physician first.

Results may vary. Exercise and proper diet are necessary to achieve and maintain weight loss and muscle definition.
