Kettlebells are all the rage right now. People are going out and buying these weighted balls like gangbusters. The unique looking fitness tools are not a new phenomenon, only new to the western world of exercise. In fact, kettlebells have been used for decades in weightlifting competitions and training around the world.
In the United States, common kettlebells are made with a soft plastic exterior, while traditional kettlebells maintain the classic iron cannon like appearance. The reason they are in demand is because people are convinced they work more muscles than traditional strength training. While lifting and moving with the kettlebells, everything from the arms and shoulders, through the core muscles are engaged.
Another reason kettlebells are appealing: they are relatively new to home fitness and mainstream training programs. The fitness world is plagued with gimmicks and fads. Kettlebells are likely very effective when used in a regular fitness program. They offer a new route to strength training and this unique approach is appealing.
Although kettlebells are unique and quite popular, we contend that resistance bands offer many of the same benefits in a more convenient package. As you would see from the P90X workouts or the Turbo Jam routines, resistance bands provide adjustable levels of resistance training that, like kettlebells, require you to engage muscles throughout the entire range of motion.
The major difference between kettlebells and resistance bands, however, is convenience. Similar to dumbbells, kettlebells take up a lot of room and are quite costly. While you may be able to get away with only owning a few pairs initially, as your strength grows so must your collection of equipment, causing you to continually spend in order to consistently make improvements.
Like dumbbells, kettllebells are far from portable. If you move to a new apartment, of course, moving your kettlebells isn’t a big deal, relatively. However, if you are going on vacation or want to take your workouts on your next business trip, nothing beats the portability of resistance bands. Resistance bands easily fit in a suitcase and stash away in your home when not in use.
There is no question that kettlebells provide a good strength training workout. Weighing your options and the benefits of each type of resistance training requires that you not get caught up in the hype. Resistance bands can also give you an excellent workout at a fraction of the price and with much more convenience.

You’re on a business trip or away on vacation and want to stick with your fitness program. Sure, some of the better hotels have their own gyms but what if you’re not the gym rat type? What if you would rather do a workout in your room just like you do when you’re at home? We know how it feels because many of us here at ExtremeBody Workout also prefer to workout where we are comfortable. The good news is we carry several options that make for a great hotel workout DVD.
Unless you are a big timer that gets to stay in the presidential suite wherever you go, you’re going to want a hotel workout DVD that doesn’t require too much space. You can’t hardly dance around and do much kicking in most hotel rooms. If you are living the good life and have plenty of floor space, there are really no restrictions on which workout system you choose. Just make sure you save the Plyometrics workouts for ground floor rooms unless you want a noise complaint from the front desk.
Ten Minute Trainer could be the perfect hotel workout DVD. It uses minimal space and allows you to customize your workout. Typically when you are staying in a hotel your schedule isn’t completely free of restrictions. You may have activities planned or meetings throughout the day. 10 Minute Trainer allows you to decide how long you want your workout to be and go from there. With DVD workouts in ten minute increments, you can do as little or as much as you have time for.
Another good quality of 10 Minute Trainer that makes it an appropriate hotel workout DVD is the fact that it doesn’t use any big or cumbersome equipment. The most you will need to have with you for 10 Minute Trainer is a set of resistance bands. Because resistance bands are highly portable and lightweight, you can fit them just about anywhere. Lastly, 10 Minute Trainer doesn’t require a lot of space. You can get a high quality workout by simply moving a chair out of the way or cleverly using the space you have in your hotel room.
When you leave your home behind, you don’t have to leave your fitness program. By using a fitness system that is also an appropriate hotel workout DVD, you can continue to reach your fitness goals while you are on the road.

Strength training with free weights is a great addition to any fitness program. Because a good training program relies on both strength training and cardio exercise, free weight workouts are a great option. Similar to resistance bands, free weight workouts help you to build muscle and get toned. They allow a great amount of flexibility in options as you are only limited by the free weights in your home gym.
Using free weights to build muscle is nothing new. Before all of the fancy weight machines were in gyms, everyone used free weights. They are back to basics and give a seriously good opportunity for getting fit. Free weight workouts allow you to choose the level of resistance right for you and the move you are doing and progress to heavier weights as you gain strength and abilities.
Free weight workouts are commonly found on fitness DVD’s. One only needs to watch one of the P90X workouts to know that free weights can be used in a variety of ways. Similarly, ChaLEAN Extreme uses free weights to build muscle and burn fat.
One problem with free weights, and there aren’t many, is their bulkiness and cost. Not many people have a room in their home to dedicate solely to fitness. Free weights do take up a lot of room. As you gain strength you have to expand your collection to match your abilities. This negative attribute of free weight workouts may lead some people to look at other options.
When considering a free weight workout, you may want to look at resistance bands as another option. You can do the same moves but with much better portability and at a lower cost. While free weight workouts are the original strength training solution, resistance bands offer a good choice for people looking for something a little smaller and easier managed.

They work similarly to using weights in that they provide resistance to typical exercise moves. The difference is they are highly portable, take up less space, and are far more affordable.
A resistance band workout without weights will get you the same results as a strength training workout with weights can. One look at the P90X, ChaLEAN Extreme or 10 Minute Trainer programs and you can see the effectiveness of these workouts without weights.
These DVD fitness programs each show you how to get the same results with resistance bands rather than weights. This means you can get the same quality P90X workout, for instance, without weights as you can using the traditional hand weights.
Trainer Tony Horton endorses the use of resistance bands in a strength training workout without weights. These bands come in a variety of resistance levels created to provide you with just the correct amount for your strength training needs.
You don’t have to sacrifice quality when getting a strength training workout without weights. Resistance bands make this a possibility.
