Kettlebells Vs. Resistance Bands

3820PS_1Kettlebells are the latest in home fitness equipment. Every once in a while, a new fad will take the country by storm and have everyone singing its praises. Kettlebells is this product, for now. Kettlebells aren’t new however; they have been used for years in athletic training. They come in a variety of designs, though the traditional kettlebells are made from cast iron and resemble a cannonball with a handle. So, what’s the big deal with kettlebells and should you run out to buy them?

The appeal of kettlebells is largely marketing created. In all honesty, they offer little more than dumbbells, being a simple weight used in strength training. They are effective, however, so the purchasing decision is entirely yours. When comparing them with resistance bands, we see several reasons why the bands are preferred.

Simply stated, kettlebells are cumbersome. “Duh” you might say, but hear me out. Although dumbbells and kettlebells are effective for strength training, they are far from convenient and portable. While one pair of kettlebells may be appropriate for bicep curls, you will likely need a different weight for your tricep kickbacks and your lateral raises. In other words, one pair won’t be enough. Add to that the need for heavier bells as your progress and you may end up with a collection big enough to fill a closet. If you have the extra closet space, this may not be an issue. But, why use something inconvenient simply because it’s a “hot” product on the market?

Resistance bands, on the other hand, are highly adjustable and very convenient. You can purchase a complete set of high quality resistance bands for around $100 and stow them all away in a small duffle bag or on a shelf. To increase resistance between exercises you can simply tighten the band, or move up to the next resistance level.

Kettlebells may be the newest hot item in home gym equipment, but advertizing presence and fads aren’t always a good indicator of the best products. For strength training results with convenience and portability, look into some resistance bands options.

Chin Up Bar Versus Resistance Bands

imagesA lot of people have questions concerning the accessories that go with Tony Horton’s P90X.  Especially when deciding between using the chin up bar or getting the resistance bands with the upgrade kit so you can do the modified versions of chin ups and pull ups.  How do you decide whats going to work best for you chin up bar or resistance bands with the upgrade kit?

Well, here are some things to think about when making your decisions.  First, you want to make sure that you have a door frame for either of these options somewhere close to where you are planning on doing your workouts.  Now the chin up bar fits  doorways 24″ – 32″ wide, and a doorway with trim is required.  Whereas with the resistance bands and upgrade kit you also need a doorway but you need the metal hinges that hook the door to the frame, not the trim.  By hooking the door attachment included with the upgrade kit, around the metal hinge, it allows you to do all the modifed versions of what you would do with the chin up bar with the resistance bands.

Now those are the technical differences to help you make your decision.  Along with that take into account whether you want to get out of your workouts physically.  They are both going to give you a challenge and work your muscle tissue, but you have more control over how much resistance you have if you use the resistance bands unlike the chin up bar where you are picking up your entire weight or modifying things by standing on a chair.  They are both great products it really just depends on what you are looking for.  If you have any questions regarding the P90X accessories check out  www.ExtremeBodyWorkout.com.

Considering a Portable Chin Up Bar?

j0405410One way to ensure you are able to get a workout just about anywhere is either to workout without equipment or have equipment that is highly portable. While chin ups are one of the best basic workout moves you can do, there are not a lot of easy options when it comes to doing them on the road. There are portable chin up bars, but many of them border on unsafe and there is another option that provides nearly the same quality workout with major portability.

Resistance bands are highly effective and highly underrated. They can be used in a wide range or exercise moves and are the ultimate in portable fitness equipment. In a pinch they can take the place of hand weights, numerous gym machines, and even portable chin up bars.

When used with a cardio belt, they can even give you a great source of resistance for indoor cardio training. When paired with a door attachment, resistance bands become a variety of workout tools including a perfect replacement for a portable chin up bar. They can be shoved in a desk drawer, suitcase, or briefcase and be used in a hotel room or even your office on a break.

The vast majority of people looking to purchase a portable chin up bar will consider a tension mounted bar. While these can serve their purpose, a quick look at consumer reviews online will show that they also pose more than their share of issues. Some tension mounted pull up bars are known to crack door frames when tightened too much and fall, potentially causing injury, when not tightened enough.

When you spend time on the road or away from your home chin up bar, you want an alternative that is safe, effective, and easy to pack away. Resistance bands are the best option when it comes to offering the same benefits of a portable chin up bar and more.

Home Fitness and Exercise Equipment Not Required

j0422190One of the beauties of working out at home is that you don’t need a room full of equipment to make it effective. Home fitness and exercise equipment don’t have to go hand in hand. Sure there are programs out there that require equipment and those that strongly recommend it. We have a few systems here that simply work better with resistance bands or a chin up bar. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are “required”.

Home fitness and exercise equipment can act independently. It’s obvious you don’t need a complete weight set or a home gym to get fit at home. Part of the reason why you chose to do your workouts here is to simplify; the last thing you need is big equipment requirements.

When working out at home, a few well chosen pieces of equipment are all you need. In a pinch, you can often find things around the house to serve the same purposes. Water bottles or milk jugs filled with sand become great hand weights and chairs are a great place to get dips done. Be creative and you will see that home fitness and exercise equipment can really be managed together with little cost or effort.

Now, if you aren’t completely opposed to owning some high quality equipment, you can really make a big difference in your workouts with a small number of items. Resistance bands and a good chin up bar are probably the best small home gym equipment you can invest in. These two items can be used in many home workout programs and the resistance bands can even go with you on the road.

It doesn’t take a weight tower or elliptical machine to get fit at home. Superior home fitness systems can get you fit with minimal equipment needs. If you have any questions about the equipment we sell here, just ask!

Chin Up Bar Alternatives

j0407396There is no question that the pull up is an excellent fitness move. Like pushups, chin ups are a timeless exercise that should forever have a place in your workouts. The vast majority of us, however, don’t have room for a standard chin up bar in our homes. For this reason, you may be interested in learning about possible chin up bar alternatives.

Finding a chin up bar alternative that provides you with the ability to get chin up results in the comfort of your own home is a reasonable request. The most obvious choice, then, would be to find a chin up bar alternative that allows for easy placement within a limited amount of space.

The P90X chin up bar provides a great alternative to the bulky in home towers sold by other companies. This door attachment pull up bar allows for easy mounting and simple removal when the bar is not in use. It provides all of the benefits of a full size chin up bar with less space and much easier portability and concealment.

Chin up bar alternatives simply have to deliver the same results as a pull up bar at the gym. Because pull ups work your chest, back, and arms, you want to ensure your chin up bar alternative is giving you those same benefits.

If you determine a door mounted chin up bar isn’t for you, consider a set of resistance bands. When combined with the door attachment like the one in our complete set of resistance bands or the upgrade kit, you can get similar results without lifting your entire body weight.

Think that’s the easy way out? Think again. A resistance bands pull up workout is a serious workout and will deliver great results. Those of you that have done some of the resistance bands workouts in P90X know exactly what I mean. When paired with a door attachment, those unassuming bands are real fitness tools.

What’s so great about resistance band exercises?

resistance-bands-men-i4Okay, we here at ExtremeBody Workout like resistance band exercises. No, it’s not only because we sell resistance bands but because we truly believe they are a great way to get fit. Their unassuming appearance often gets them overlooked by people serious about getting fit, and this is unfortunate.

Resistance band exercises can be as effective as dumbbell workouts. They offer an alternate way of getting fit in an inexpensive and convenient small package. Resistance bands like those that we have here, come in several “weights” or resistance levels. This allows you to get proper resistance for your workouts, similar to choosing the right dumbbells or plate settings at the gym.

Several of our workout systems use resistance band exercises. They don’t do this to sell resistance bands, they do this because resistance bands work! Whether you are looking at Ten Minute Trainer, ChaLEAN Extreme, or P90X, you will find people making radical body transformations with the use of resistance band exercises.

Aside from them being effective, resistance bands are far more portable than dumbbells. When’s the last time you tried carrying your weights on a plane or packing your home gym in your trunk? Resistance bands are easily stored and easily transported. Depending on your workplace, you could even fit a few resistance bands into your desk drawer for use throughout the day.

Resistance band exercises work on many levels, furthering your fitness goals and making it easy to step your workouts up to another level. Using resistance bands in your workout plan will get you serious results and do so at a minimal cost when compared with the alternatives.

The best resistance band exercises are those that you can adjust to meet your fitness needs. There really is a never ending number of options when working out with resistance bands. Check out any of our fitness programs for new resistance band moves and highly effective fitness training.

Working Inner Thigh With Resistance Bands

819265_yellow_polka_dot_bikini_2Women love lean thighs. Many of us consider our thighs to be a problem area, resistant to fat loss. If you ever feel your thighs rubbing together when you walk, you know exactly what I am talking about. Find a way to tone those muscles of the inner thigh in the comfort of your own home is actually quite simple. Working inner thighs with resistance bands is an easy accomplishment and a quick way to tone those muscles.

Here is a great video demonstration of a kick cross move for working inner thighs with resistance bands. The band is tethered to a weight machine here but you can use a table leg, bottom hinge on a door, or other heavy stationary object in your home.

The leg is swung slowly across the front of the body and returned to the starting position. When working inner thigh with resistance bands it is important that you get the right level of resistance. You may have to play with the band to determine which one to use and the amount of slack you need for the proper resistance.

A few of the programs we have here at ExtremeBody Workout shows good ways of working inner thighs with resistance bands. Both Ten Minute Trainer and P90X are great systems that utilize resistance bands in many of the strength training moves.

As this article from iVillage points out, however, working inner thigh with resistance bands won’t magically erase the fat you may have here. In that regard there is no such thing as spot reduction when it comes to fat. However, when paired with a healthy diet and full body fitness program, working inner thighs with resistance bands can tone those muscles to reveal nice definition as the weight is lost.

Kettlebells: The Next Thing in Strength Training

3820ps_1Kettlebells are all the rage right now. People are going out and buying these weighted balls like gangbusters. The unique looking fitness tools are not a new phenomenon, only new to the western world of exercise. In fact, kettlebells have been used for decades in weightlifting competitions and training around the world.

In the United States, common kettlebells are made with a soft plastic exterior, while traditional kettlebells maintain the classic iron cannon like appearance. The reason they are in demand is because people are convinced they work more muscles than traditional strength training. While lifting and moving with the kettlebells, everything from the arms and shoulders, through the core muscles are engaged.

Another reason kettlebells are appealing: they are relatively new to home fitness and mainstream training programs. The fitness world is plagued with gimmicks and fads. Kettlebells are likely very effective when used in a regular fitness program. They offer a new route to strength training and this unique approach is appealing.

Although kettlebells are unique and quite popular, we contend that resistance bands offer many of the same benefits in a more convenient package. As you would see from the P90X workouts or the Turbo Jam routines, resistance bands provide adjustable levels of resistance training that, like kettlebells, require you to engage muscles throughout the entire range of motion.

The major difference between kettlebells and resistance bands, however, is convenience. Similar to dumbbells, kettlebells take up a lot of room and are quite costly. While you may be able to get away with only owning a few pairs initially, as your strength grows so must your collection of equipment, causing you to continually spend in order to consistently make improvements.

Like dumbbells, kettllebells are far from portable. If you move to a new apartment, of course, moving your kettlebells isn’t a big deal, relatively. However, if you are going on vacation or want to take your workouts on your next business trip, nothing beats the portability of resistance bands. Resistance bands easily fit in a suitcase and stash away in your home when not in use.

There is no question that kettlebells provide a good strength training workout. Weighing your options and the benefits of each type of resistance training requires that you not get caught up in the hype. Resistance bands can also give you an excellent workout at a fraction of the price and with much more convenience.

Looking for a Hotel Workout DVD?

j0423029You’re on a business trip or away on vacation and want to stick with your fitness program. Sure, some of the better hotels have their own gyms but what if you’re not the gym rat type? What if you would rather do a workout in your room just like you do when you’re at home? We know how it feels because many of us here at ExtremeBody Workout also prefer to workout where we are comfortable. The good news is we carry several options that make for a great hotel workout DVD.

Unless you are a big timer that gets to stay in the presidential suite wherever you go, you’re going to want a hotel workout DVD that doesn’t require too much space. You can’t hardly dance around and do much kicking in most hotel rooms. If you are living the good life and have plenty of floor space, there are really no restrictions on which workout system you choose. Just make sure you save the Plyometrics workouts for ground floor rooms unless you want a noise complaint from the front desk.

Ten Minute Trainer could be the perfect hotel workout DVD. It uses minimal space and allows you to customize your workout. Typically when you are staying in a hotel your schedule isn’t completely free of restrictions. You may have activities planned or meetings throughout the day. 10 Minute Trainer allows you to decide how long you want your workout to be and go from there. With DVD workouts in ten minute increments, you can do as little or as much as you have time for.

Another good quality of 10 Minute Trainer that makes it an appropriate hotel workout DVD is the fact that it doesn’t use any big or cumbersome equipment. The most you will need to have with you for 10 Minute Trainer is a set of resistance bands. Because resistance bands are highly portable and lightweight, you can fit them just about anywhere. Lastly, 10 Minute Trainer doesn’t require a lot of space. You can get a high quality workout by simply moving a chair out of the way or cleverly using the space you have in your hotel room.

When you leave your home behind, you don’t have to leave your fitness program. By using a fitness system that is also an appropriate hotel workout DVD, you can continue to reach your fitness goals while you are on the road.

Getting a Good Free Weights Workout at Home

j0406820Strength training with free weights is a great addition to any fitness program. Because a good training program relies on both strength training and cardio exercise, free weight workouts are a great option. Similar to resistance bands, free weight workouts help you to build muscle and get toned. They allow a great amount of flexibility in options as you are only limited by the free weights in your home gym.

Using free weights to build muscle is nothing new. Before all of the fancy weight machines were in gyms, everyone used free weights. They are back to basics and give a seriously good opportunity for getting fit. Free weight workouts allow you to choose the level of resistance right for you and the move you are doing and progress to heavier weights as you gain strength and abilities.

Free weight workouts are commonly found on fitness DVD’s. One only needs to watch one of the P90X workouts to know that free weights can be used in a variety of ways. Similarly, ChaLEAN Extreme uses free weights to build muscle and burn fat.

One problem with free weights, and there aren’t many, is their bulkiness and cost. Not many people have a room in their home to dedicate solely to fitness. Free weights do take up a lot of room. As you gain strength you have to expand your collection to match your abilities. This negative attribute of free weight workouts may lead some people to look at other options.

When considering a free weight workout, you may want to look at resistance bands as another option. You can do the same moves but with much better portability and at a lower cost. While free weight workouts are the original strength training solution, resistance bands offer a good choice for people looking for something a little smaller and easier managed.

Where to Find Exercises for Resistance Bands

resistance-bands-men-i3So you’re sold on the benefits of resistance bands. You’ve come to appreciate their convenience, their portability, as well as their price. Resistance bands truly are the most convenient strength training tools available and high quality bands like those we carry will outlast much of your home gym equipment. Simply pop in any one of our top selling programs and you will be overwhelmed with new exercises for resistance bands.

Resistance bands are highly effective in helping you reach your fitness goals.

The fitness systems we carry all use resistance bands. They use them because they work. You will see with P90X and ChaLEAN Extreme that every move done with a free weight can also be modified as exercises for resistance bands. This means that regardless of what equipment you are using, you will get the same high quality workout.
10 Minute Trainer uses some serious exercises for resistance bands. From typical strength training to added resistance during cardio moves, Tony Horton will open your mind to plenty of new exercises for resistance bands.

You bought the bands because they were convenient and could get the job done. Now, you simply need to trust the professionals to show you the most effective exercises for resistance bands. Whether you are watching Tony Horton or Chalene Johnson, you will be amazed at all of the options your resistance bands have.

How to Get a Quality Workout Without Weights

resistance-bands-complete-i6Strength training doesn’t always have to involve lifting weights. Although they are the old standby and a very effective way to tone your muscles and gain strength, they aren’t the only way. Whether you don’t want to purchase weights or just want to try something new to keep things interesting, there is one perfect solution to finding an effective workout without weights.

Resistance bands are an excellent choice when seeking a productive workout without weights.

Resistance bands like the ones we sell here at ExtremeBody Workout are made to withstand serious workouts and provide serious results. They work similarly to using weights in that they provide resistance to typical exercise moves. The difference is they are highly portable, take up less space, and are far more affordable.

A resistance band workout without weights will get you the same results as a strength training workout with weights can. One look at the P90X, ChaLEAN Extreme or 10 Minute Trainer programs and you can see the effectiveness of these workouts without weights.

These DVD fitness programs each show you how to get the same results with resistance bands rather than weights. This means you can get the same quality P90X workout, for instance, without weights as you can using the traditional hand weights.

Trainer Tony Horton endorses the use of resistance bands in a strength training workout without weights. These bands come in a variety of resistance levels created to provide you with just the correct amount for your strength training needs.

You don’t have to sacrifice quality when getting a strength training workout without weights. Resistance bands make this a possibility.

How to Get a Strength Training Workout Without Weights

resistance-bands-men-i1A high quality strength training workout does not require weights. A high quality strength training workout does not require gym machines either. You can get a workout without weights in your own home and end up getting excellent results, comparable to those you would get in the gym. If you are trying to develop great muscle tone conveniently, a strength training workout without weights is perfect for you.

There are many possibilities on how to get a high quality workout without weights. Basic, no equipment moves like push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups have been around for years because they work. These types of exercises create a muscular foundation, increasing your tone and subsequently your metabolism. If you are willing to use convenient and relatively inexpensive equipment, your workout without weights will be dramatically improved, however.

Resistance bands are quite possibly the best home workout equipment that can deliver a serious strength training workout without weights. Resistance bands can be used to work all the muscle groups you work when you use weights or fancy gym equipment. Whether you are looking to work your arms, back, shoulders or even legs, a set of bands can do the trick and provide the right amount of resistance for your needs.

Strength training workouts without weights can be as good if not better than those with weights. In addition to the variety, working out without weights is also more convenient. Resistance bands are easily stored and not nearly as expensive.

Don’t sell yourself short. A good workout doesn’t require the use of weights.

Results may vary. Exercise and proper diet are necessary to achieve and maintain weight loss and muscle definition.
