Finding the Motivation for Another P90X Routine

I’ve said before that motivation is overrated. And it is. There will be days that you simply won’t be motivated but you’ll have to push through anyways. Many people chalk their failed diet and fitness goals to lack of motivation when in all actuality, it was lack of commitment. Having said this, being motivated for your workouts is definitely nice. It feels better, especially in those first ten minutes or so, if you are motivated when you are doing your P90X workouts. But what sort of things do you do to keep that motivation on high?

For some, motivation is as simple as revisiting their fitness goals. They can envision themselves with a smaller waist and stronger body and this mental picture gets them moving. Try it. Visualize the “new you” in whatever outfit you think would be most flattering (a new swimsuit?). See how your confidence has changed and imagine how it feels to have already achieved those goals. This is a simple exercise that can not only increase your motivation for P90X workouts but also increase your overall resolve.

Another good way to boost motivation is to interact with other people who are doing the P90X workouts. There are hundreds of personal online blogs and forums where P90Xers get together and talk about the program. Something about being on a team has a tendency to get us in gear. Whether it’s the camaraderie or even a bit of competition, knowing there are other people working towards similar goals makes it easier to work towards your own. Make a habit of not only visiting these sites but actually interacting with others.

What motivates you might not be as motivating for me. We’re all a little different when it comes to our fitness goals and motivation.

Goals are a huge motivator. Of course you have long term goals or you wouldn’t have purchased the system. But shorter mini-goals can be a great motivation. An example would be rewarding yourself with some new shoes if you “Bring it” to every workout in the first 30 days of the program. Even goals that last a week can offer you incentive to get through the P90X workouts with a sense of purpose.

We don’t all have the same goals and we definitely don’t have the same motivations. But what makes you motivated for the P90X workouts is what’s important. Find what works and stick with it because there will be days that exercise is the last thing on your mind and on those days you will definitely have to “dig deep” to find that resolve.

Assessing Your P90X Results

When you began the P90X program you no doubt had some goals in mind. Hopefully you didn’t just have them “in mind”, you wrote them down as well. Once you reach the 90 day mark, it’s time to assess your P90X results and determine how to move on. But before we get too deep into what comes after P90X, let’s talk about tracking your results before the 90 days are up.

P90X results aren’t just something that comes along on the 90th day. No, you’ve probably been seeing results from the first week on the program. These results, no matter how small or dramatic they are, are important. We cannot stress enough how important it is to track your P90X results along the way. Not only does it significantly boost your motivation, it helps you pin point areas that need a bit more work.

Once you reach the end of the P90X workout program, you should have a fairly significant amount of information on your P90X results.  Whether you tracked your measurements weekly or biweekly, you likely have a good deal of numbers written down. Also, your before and after photos are a great indication of your P90X results.

Compile all of the information you have from the last 90 days and take some time to evaluate it. Did you achieve your goals? Are there areas you would still like to improve upon? Do you feel like you did everything you could to reach the goals you set for yourself.
