Tony Horton P90X2Both programs feature celebrity trainer Tony Horton and his corny (but admittedly funny) jokes. But what’s changed from P90X to P90X2 and where should you start if you’re new to the programs?

P90X2 is Not “Just Another” P90X

This isn’t just a sequel, or a P90X remix. P90X2 is an entirely new system. It’s P90X Evolved. When comparing P90X2 vs. P90X, it’s important to know that the P90X foundation was built on something called “muscle confusion”. And while that hasn’t changed, how it is approached has. Muscle confusion refers to mixing things up with different workouts, different training methods, and hitting different muscle groups on randomized days. By keeping things interesting, so to speak, your body keeps evolving and adjusting, leaving no room for plateaus. Because the people at Beachbody, along with Tony Horton, have had two years to improve upon the original, P90X2 isn’t just new P90X workouts, it’s an entirely new system.

Where Should You Start?

If you’re a P90X graduate, you should be ready to move on to P90X2. However, if you’ve never done P90X and are unsure of where to start, don’t walk away from P90X2 just yet.

You don’t have to be a P90X graduate to do P90X2!

This system was made for people who are in relatively fair shape. That means if you can pass the fit test, you’re in. The fit test for P90X2 is the same as the test for P90X, so if you’re ready for P90X then you are also ready for P90X2. If it were me, and I was entering the program for the first time, comparing P90X2 vs P90X, I would opt for the original. While I would want to try the latest P90X2, I would work through 90 days of the original with the incentive that I would move onto P90X2 once I had completed the first 90 days. But, that’s just me—and where you start is your decision to make.

P90X2 vs. P90X: Both Are Winners

Both of these programs are not just good, they’re amazing. And although one is newer and slightly more “evolved” from the original, it doesn’t mean the original has lost any value. On the contrary, it’s made your fitness progression even better. Now you can move from one to the next and continue to have new workouts and greater results with each change.
