Is there a P90 or only P90X? They both exist and P90 (Power 90) and P90X are superior options. Many people know they want to try one of the Tony Horton programs, but just aren’t sure which is right for them. They are both good and they can both deliver good results. There are some differences, however, and looking at them could help you decide which program is better for your particular needs.
The Original and the Sequel
Power 90 (P90) was the original boot camp home workout system. It was created by Tony Horton to help people change their lives and their bodies within their own home. Acting as their personal trainer, Tony helped many people achieve great feats with P90. P90X was created as the follow-up program. Though you don’t have to complete P90 to move on to P90X, it’s the perfect program for the Power 90 graduate. It took base-level fitness and ramped it up to create athletes. The workouts were longer and the nutrition plan more detailed. But, Power 90 remained relevant.
What’s Your Fitness Level?
The main difference between P90 and P90X is the level of difficulty. There is a Fit Test in the first pages of the P90X Fitness Guide, to test if you are ready for it. If you are not, it’s recommended you try P90 to get a good fitness foundation. What this means is that if you are living a completely sedentary lifestyle and are very out of shape, you may want to try Power 90 rather than P90X. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever be able to do P90X, but just that you should work up to it. When looking at your current fitness level, this is a time to be honest with yourself—to prevent injuries and to ensure you are choosing the right program.
