Home Fitness Equipment: Is It Really Worth It?

j0411746It isn’t difficult to get lured into the glossy advertising and slick marketing of many of the home fitness equipment companies out there. Giant home gyms and magical fat burning electrical devices are bombarding us online, on television, in magazines, and even on the radio. But, is any or all of this home fitness equipment worth the sometimes astronomical price?

There isn’t an easy answer to that question. Sure, there is plenty of high quality home fitness equipment out there. The problem is that much of it ends up shoved into a corner in our homes, used minimally. Instances like this cause me to think that most of the high dollar home fitness equipment certainly isn’t worth it. What makes home fitness equipment worthy of a purchase isn’t the technology or the cost, it’s the effort and dedication you will put into the equipment.

So much of the marketing we see tells us how home fitness equipment can get us the body of our dreams. In all actuality, it isn’t the equipment doing the work, it’s you. And for those products that require no effort on your part, your money would better spent on a nutrition class or instruction into how weight loss really works.

Choosing a piece of home fitness equipment that costs several hundred dollars in no way increases your chance of weight loss or body transformation success. True, when you receive your new equipment it may be motivational, initially. But that initial motivation will wear off. You have to ask yourself, are you ready to put in work or do you just want to try something new?

Often the best home fitness equipment is the most simple. The reason for this is because we don’t attach a lot of unrealistic expectations to it. You know when you buy a sturdy pull up bar, there isn’t anything remarkable or high tech about it. You do, however, usually recognize that this basic tool will assist you in getting the body of your dreams through hard work and good, old fashioned exercise.

So, the next time you are up late at night and see the newest piece of home fitness equipment being offered at 12 payments of $39.99, don’t forget to get out your calculator and recognize that the equipment isn’t the thing doing the work here, you are.
