Seems like a reasonable enough question. But when you consider all of the air time fitness and health get on our news and television programs, you would think most people would know why should people exercise. Despite this being common knowledge, people search the internet for an answer to this question everyday. Do I think they really don’t know the answer? No. I think, more than likely, these people are looking for motivation, something to kick them in gear and get them excited about exercise.
Truthfully, there are multiple reasons for exercise. Why should people exercise is not a simple and easily answered question. Why I do it and why you do it may be completely different.
First off, people should exercise because their health depends on it. We aren’t farmers or hunter/gatherers anymore and the average adult gets nowhere near enough physical activity on a daily basis. Because our jobs and lifestyles don’t require much activity, we have to exercise to use our bodies and keep them fit. It all goes back to that short and clever statement, “use it or lose it”. If you don’t take advantage of your health and use it while you have it you may not have it for much longer.
Another excellent reason why should people exercise is to relieve stress in their life. There are connections between regular exercise and your mental well being. People who are fit report being happier than people who are unhealthy or overweight. Exercise is a great stress reliever and an excellent way to get some “me time” in today’s busy world.
Why should people exercise should be an easily answered question. The benefits of daily exercise reach from the health of your heart, lungs, and bones to your mental health. A regular fitness program like one that includes cardio and strength training like P90X or one that has high energy choreography like Turbo Jam is an excellent way to stay fit in body and mind.
