Power 90, The Original In Home Boot Camp

p90-iWith P90X taking off and skyrocketing to popularity, many people have forgotten the system that started it all. Power 90 was the original. This was the system that brought Tony Horton front and center. This is the program we recommend if you aren’t quite sure that you are ready for P90X. Power 90 will give you the basic fitness tools for major success and work to give you major results in 90 days.

Whether you are considering P90X or P90X Plus as long range goals or not, Power 90 is a great system to start with. This program uses the idea of “sectional progression” to ensure each and every muscle group in your body gets some serious fat-burning attention.

Sectional progression in the Power 90 program refers to working each muscle group in isolation, focusing on the specific muscle groups with hard hitting moves to bring you fast and dramatic results.

One of the great things about the Power 90 system is each of the workouts is under 45 minutes long. This means its not only a great way to train your body for P90X but it also forces you to make time in your busy schedule for daily fitness activity. Because P90X can demand some 90 minute workouts, Power 90 lets you ease into this kind of fitness dedication. Finding 45 minutes each day may be difficult, but if you make fitness a top priority you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Power 90 was the original in the series from Tony Horton. Following this program came the Power 90 Master’s Series, another great fitness regimen. This program introduced Plyo to the P90 programs and take fitness a step further than Power 90.

Regardless of which of the Power 90 programs you choose, making the commitment to complete a 90 day workout system will certainly bring you results that may surprise you. When you are truly committed to getting fit, anyone of the Power 90 series will deliver great results and the desire for even more!

Resistance Bands Kit for Convenient Strength Training

resistance-bands-complete-iStrength training has many benefits. In addition to building muscle, which, in turn, increases metabolism, strength training can also improve bone health, posture, and even prevent injury. There are many ways to fit strength training into your daily schedule. Because a gym membership isn’t possible or even preferential for everyone, a complete resistance bands kit can offer a to quality strength training workout in the comfort of your home for a fraction of the cost.

A high quality resistance bands kit includes bands of several sizes and resistenece levels. This ensures that you have the right weight for each particular exercise move. A single band won’t do if you plan on getting a truly good workout. Instead you need various bands of varying resistance levels.

Another component of a good resistance bands kit is an attachment of some sort that allows you to hook the bands to a door frame or other stationary object. This greatly expands the number of exercise moves you can do with your resistance bands kit, further improving your fitness level, muscle tone, and body shape.

Lastly, a resistance bands kit should always come with high quality handles. While you can grip the band directly it doesn’t allow for a balanced range of motion. Superior level resistance band products always come with comfort grip handles that can quickly be moved from one band to the next.

Resistance bands offer convenient strength training in a small package. Imagine trying to take a dumbbell set on vacation. With a good resistance bands kit, you have no more excuses. Take a few of the bands to work. No one will need to know that you are getting a great arm workout in on your lunch break.

Resistance bands are the strength training equipment choice for many people. Superior workout programs like P90X and Ten Minute Trainer feature moves that can be done with free weights or resistance bands, proving that many of the same moves can be done effectively with these convenient bands.

Using Meal Replacements for Weight Loss

meal-replacement-shake-iShakes aren’t the only meal replacements available these days for dieting, though they remain the most popular. There are many varieties of shakes, bars, and other products made specifically to assist dieters in decreasing their daily caloric intake in pursuit of fitness goals. We actually sell a few of those varieties here. Meal replacements, however, have gotten a bad rap. People equate them with starvation diets, and that simply isn’t always the case. You can use meal replacements in a healthy and responsible way to achieve your weight loss goals.

Why Use Meal Replacements?

Well, there are several reasons. The first: they are convenient. Meal replacements require no cooking, no weighing, and very little, if any, prep time. They are great for on the go eating when fast food simply isn’t an option. In addition, meal replacements are typically very economical. They give you a cheap, easy way to get fit.

A good meal replacement diet never has you substituting for more than two meals a day on a typical 3 meal per day eating plan. For instance, a normal day using meal replacements could go something like this. Breakfast at 7:30 consisting of a P90X protein bar and cup of coffee. A small snack of crunchy fruit around 10 am. Lunch at 12 made up of a Meal Replacement Shake and veggie salad. A healthy snack around 3pm and a complete meal at dinner time. This consistent fueling throughout the day ensures your metabolism stays on “high” and you don’t get too hungry.

The whole science of weight loss boils down to calories in must be less than calories expended for the day. So, on any given day you are trying to create a caloric deficit. This can be achieved through changes in diet or exercise, though it is most beneficial when it includes both.

Using meal replacements to obtain this caloric deficit is simply one healthy option. Meal replacements don’t have to cause you serious hunger and aren’t about cutting your calories to dangerous levels. Instead, they are simply one tool at your disposal in the journey towards a healthier and happier you.

Shaun T: The Energy Behind Hip Hop Abs

hiphop_shaunt_1For those of you who have experienced the Hip Hop Abs workout, you know this Shaun T guy has some serious energy. His infectious attitude and constant smile make it a little easier to keep up with his workouts. But, who is the man behind the workout gear and dance moves? Well, his career certainly didn’t start with Hip Hop Abs and it won’t end there either.

Shaun T, more formerly known as Shaun Thompson, is a native of New Jersey. He attended Rowan University where he majored in Sports Science and minored in Theater and Dance. His love for fitness and dance is apparent with his choices of study.

He choreographed such things as a NCAA Final Four halftime show, the Garden State Dance Festival, and Aaron and Nick Carter’s tour. He also worked to help create the dance moves in the movie Bring It On: All or Nothing and the moves in the Kathy Smith Project: You workout series.

Hip Hop Abs wasn’t created until 2007 and since that time it has rapidly gained popularity. It is a program that displays T’s love of dance with his commitment to fitness. The following year, Shaun T also released Shaun T’s Fit Kids Club, a great solution to getting kids active with a fun and modern program.

In addition to all of these accomplishments, there’s more.

Shaun has appeared as a backup dancer for acts like Mariah Carey, Aaron and Nick Carter, and reggae superstar Elephant Man. He appeared in the movie Beauty Shop and has been seen in shows like Six Feet Under and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Shaun T has done work with additional companies like Boost, Marc Jacobs, Nike, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

So, in a few words: Shaun T is a lot more than that dancing nut on Hip Hop Abs. He knows what he is doing and loves his work immensely. One only has to see him at work to see his passion for dance and fitness.

The Benefits of a Couples Home Workout

j0438443When you are in a long term relationship things can get comfortable real easy. While there are some benefits to comfort, comfort can lead to laziness and even apathy. Whether you are talking about your personal health or the health of your relationship, laziness is a sure route to disaster. Learning new ways to keep the relationship fresh can make a big difference. One idea in the pursuit of a healthier relationship is a couples home workout.

As if the commitment to a personal workout program isn’t difficult enough, sometimes getting two people to simultaneously commit to a couples home workout can be twice as hard. On the other hand, the dedication of your partner can motivate you when your energy and gumption is low.

A couples home workout is as much about connecting with your partner as it is about maintaining your health. You could choose a workout program that allows conversation to be had or you could take advantage of the motivation and commit to a harder, more rewarding program like P90X.

Finding the time for both of you to workout may require some clever scheduling. Look at your couples home workouts as quality time. Do it instead of watching your nightly sitcom together or instead of retreating to your opposite corners of the home.

As you work on your couples home workout you will likely find it to be even more rewarding than working out alone. Depending on the dynamics of your relationship, some fun competitiveness and constructive criticism could have you flirting like you did when you first met.

Finding ways to stay active and keep the relationship fresh is always a challenge. When both people are dedicated to making the relationship work, it is that much easier. Things like couples home workouts and date nights ensure you don’t get too wrapped up in the everyday monotony and can ensure that you remember why you are with this person in the first place.

Using Omega 3 Cookbooks to Increase Omega 3 Consumption

j0432911You would have to be living under a rock for the last several years to have not heard of the many benefits of a diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. However, if a rock is where you’ve been then let me quickly break it down for you. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fats that are not naturally produced by the body. Instead, we must get these fats from food sources, one reason people are searching for Omega 3 cookbooks online on a daily basis.

All the benefits of these essential fats are still being researched but we do know they are powerful anti-inflammatory and can promote good circulation to the brain. There is evidence that they can aid in the reduction of symptoms related to mood disorders like depression and anxiety and even lower your risk for heart disease and certain cancers. Because foods rich in Omega 3’s aren’t high on the list of those things in a common American diet, incorporating them into your diet can be tricky. Omega 3 cookbooks can assist with this conundrum and get you on the right track in cooking with Omega 3s.

I found a few Omega 3 cookbooks that may be worth checking out. Make sure you do a little research and look for potential reviews on these books, as I haven’t personally had the chance to check them out. The first, Omega 3 Cuisine, is written by Alan Roettinger, a private chef that has prepared foods for a U.S. President and a Prime Minister.

The second of my two Omega 3 cookbooks picks is called The Top 100 Omega 3 Recipes. This book is written by Audrey Deane and Penny Doyle. It contains recipes like seafood lasagna and Pissaladiere, similar to a pizza.

Using Omega 3 cookbooks to increase your Omega 3 consumption is a great idea. If you find you still need additional Omega 3 sources in your diet, refer to this blog. Simply by searching for “Omega 3” in the search bar to your right you will find several entries about how to easily add this important group of essential fats into your diet.

High Quality Exercise DVDs for Seniors

j0438729Just because you are getting older doesn’t mean you have to slow down. Staying active is the key to staying young at heart. It isn’t too unusual to see older Americans doing things once unheard of for people their age. They are running marathons and staying fit well into their seventies, eighties, and some beyond that. So, when you are looking for exercise DVDs for seniors, it is crucial that you take into consideration the senior you are dealing with.

Seniors who have never been athletic before and are seeking an easier program to get started with will appreciate Tony & The Folks. This workout dvd is an excellent way to stay active and limber, particularly when the weather makes it difficult to get outside and go for a walk. Workout DVDs for seniors like this workout system are a great way to keep your body in motion throughout the year and despite nagging aches and pains.

It is important, as we age, to keep our bodies limber and mobile. Workout DVDs for seniors can do this with the convenience of a home workout system. Tony & The Folks is able to increase your energy levels, improve your cardiovascular health, maintain flexibility, and reduce stiffness. In addition, the workout is easily adjusted for your fitness level.

Now, if you are one of those seniors that continues to be a stellar athlete, you may not want to look specifically at workout DVDs for seniors. Instead, as an athlete, you could consider more mainstream workout systems like Power 90 or 10 Minute Trainer. These systems are everyday home workout DVDs that are not designed specifically as workout dvds for seniors.

What may be right for one senior could be totally wrong for the next. Just like every other adult, seniors need to choose a workout system that meets their needs and assists them in reaching their fitness goals, no matter what they are.

What Makes Workout Schedules For Women Different?

j0438392Honestly, not a whole lot. A workout schedule is a workout schedule. A woman’s fitness goals might be different than those of a man, but for the most part, women and men workout about the same amount. What may differ with workout schedules for women is the time they have in a day. No offense to the guys out there but when you’re a mother, wife, and professional, there’s a lot to do and only a little time to do it in.

Workout schedules for women with careers must take into consideration both their professional life and their personal life. Carving time out for the gym isn’t very easy between car pooling kids, your work commute, and providing a home for your family.

When designing workout schedules for women, you must take into consideration all that needs to fit into a single day. For instance, it doesn’t make much sense to purchase a year’s worth of monthly gym memberships when you know you won’t be able to use them when the kids are out for summer. Or, perhaps at all, if you work 40 hours a week.

Workout schedules for women are most easily set up with each specific woman in mind. Coming up with “workout schedules for women” is a little like coming up with homework schedules for all college students. What works for one may not be right for the next.

If you, as a woman, are having a difficult time determining when to work out and how to find the time, take a look at where you waste time. If you don’t find yourself wasting any time, consider making sacrifices to carve out the time necessary to maintain your health. Take shorter workout programs like 10 Minute Trainer into consideration.

The world won’t come to an end if you don’t spend an hour in the kitchen preparing dinner on a nightly basis. Likewise, forgoing the gossip filled weekday lunches with coworkers in exchange for a noontime walk may end up making you feel a whole lot better about things anyways.

Workout schedules for women don’t have to be difficult. As with any busy adult, a woman who truly has her eyes set on fitness goals and a healthy body can surely make time for herself.

What Makes Good Fat Burning Workouts?

j0402381Nearly anyone who doesn’t already have their ideal body would like to burn some fat. Even those chiseled bodybuilders will often say they aren’t at what they believe their optimal body fat percentage is. Fat burning workouts are a popular tool in weight loss programs and muscle building programs alike. The key is finding workouts that will torch the fat while enabling you to maintain and even increase muscle mass. This formula results in the most defined and shapely bodies.

Many people automatically think of cardio when considering fat burning workouts. It is true that cardiovascular workouts burn a good amount of calories. This is crucial when trying to create a caloric deficit for weight loss. However, without the proper diet and strength training regimen, cardio alone won’t get you the best looking bikini bod.

The best fat burning workouts are those that increase your muscle mass. The reason for this is that muscle burns fat. Yes, people with more muscle on their bodies typically have higher metabolism. This leads to major fat burning.

Unlike cardio, strength training will help you burn calories throughout the day, not just during the workout. When you have increased your metabolism by adding muscle, you will burn more calories when you workout, when you sit at your desk, and even when you sleep. Fat burning workouts aren’t just about step aerobics or dance cardio anymore. People have recognized the importance of resistance training in any fitness program and are listening up.

The old myth that weight training will make women bulky is just that, a myth. Weight training will increase your muscle mass, sure. But it won’t leave you looking like a professional wrestler or anything remotely resembling that. It will simply improve your definition and decrease your body fat.

Fat burning workouts like ChaLEAN Extreme and P90X are great examples that a good program doesn’t have to be completely about cardio.

You can use your muscles to fight your fat.

Home Fitness Equipment: Is It Really Worth It?

j0411746It isn’t difficult to get lured into the glossy advertising and slick marketing of many of the home fitness equipment companies out there. Giant home gyms and magical fat burning electrical devices are bombarding us online, on television, in magazines, and even on the radio. But, is any or all of this home fitness equipment worth the sometimes astronomical price?

There isn’t an easy answer to that question. Sure, there is plenty of high quality home fitness equipment out there. The problem is that much of it ends up shoved into a corner in our homes, used minimally. Instances like this cause me to think that most of the high dollar home fitness equipment certainly isn’t worth it. What makes home fitness equipment worthy of a purchase isn’t the technology or the cost, it’s the effort and dedication you will put into the equipment.

So much of the marketing we see tells us how home fitness equipment can get us the body of our dreams. In all actuality, it isn’t the equipment doing the work, it’s you. And for those products that require no effort on your part, your money would better spent on a nutrition class or instruction into how weight loss really works.

Choosing a piece of home fitness equipment that costs several hundred dollars in no way increases your chance of weight loss or body transformation success. True, when you receive your new equipment it may be motivational, initially. But that initial motivation will wear off. You have to ask yourself, are you ready to put in work or do you just want to try something new?

Often the best home fitness equipment is the most simple. The reason for this is because we don’t attach a lot of unrealistic expectations to it. You know when you buy a sturdy pull up bar, there isn’t anything remarkable or high tech about it. You do, however, usually recognize that this basic tool will assist you in getting the body of your dreams through hard work and good, old fashioned exercise.

So, the next time you are up late at night and see the newest piece of home fitness equipment being offered at 12 payments of $39.99, don’t forget to get out your calculator and recognize that the equipment isn’t the thing doing the work here, you are.

Ultimate Upper Body Workout

554356_elbowAn upper body workout is one that works your arms, chest, shoulders, and even your back. Many at home workouts include an upper body DVD while some split the upper body workouts into muscle groups, leaving you several workouts. The best upper body workouts are those that target all of the involved muscle groups and work you towards muscle fatigue, to build the strongest muscles fast.

Whether you use dumbbells or resistance bands, a good upper body workout usually involves some resistance. One of the best upper body moves, the pushup requires no equipment. Of course, if you are serious about getting perfect form, there are push up aids out there for you. However, a push up workout is a great way to tone the chest and arms without purchasing a bunch of tools.

Another great upper body workout is a pullup workout. Using a chin up bar or even resistance bands hooked to a door frame, a pull up workout works the arms, upper back, and even the chest. P90X includes a few pull up and pushup workouts in its upper body DVD’s.

Some people make the mistake of only doing upper body workouts in the gym, completely neglecting the legs and glutes. The lower half is just as important for creating symmetry and balance, and also for boosting your metabolism.

A good upper body workout uses moves to work the arm muscles, the chest, shoulders, and upper back to create good muscle definition. By increasing your muscle mass, an upper body workout also has the potential to increase your metabolism, or your body’s fat burning capabilities.

When looking for an upper body workout for your own home fitness regimen, seek out one that works all of the major muscle groups of the upper body. Also, consider a workout program that includes lower body and cardio work as well. If you are going to invest in a superior quality home fitness system, it might as well be a complete one.

Home Fitness Guides

j0402317Many home fitness programs include fitness guides. These programs are often at the top of their game, delivering complete exercise programs with the information needed to be successful. A workout program that only gives you a few DVDs with no additional information often seems like a half hearted attempt. Companies that truly want their consumers to succeed typically put together fitness guides to make this possible.

High quality home workout programs include high quality fitness guides. These guides walk people through the workouts, teaching them the moves and what to expect. They also educate people as to the importance of working out with a superior level fitness program. Lastly, good fitness guides give tips on how to improve results while minimizing the risk of injuries.

We often hear of people losing their fitness guides and feel their pain. The P90X fitness guide, for example, is a crucial component to the P90X program. For information on what to do when you don’t have the fitness guide, check out this blog post with information on how we may be able to help.

It may be tempting to overlook the fitness guides that come with workout systems. This, however, isn’t recommended. Fitness guides often include very important information about the programs themselves, information that can mean the difference between mediocre results and dramatic transformations.

It is suggested with all of our products, like P90X and ChaLEAN Extreme, that you read through the fitness guides before you begin the program. Knowing the program before starting the program will help you know what to expect and increase the likelihood of you having great successes with the program.

Fitness guides come with the best fitness programs for a reason. The best programs have been developed using proven methods and high quality fitness knowledge. It simply isn’t enough to have DVDs without the information to go with them. Your P90X fitness guide, for example, becomes a great resource when you do the P90X program.

What are the Benefits of Taking Omega 3?

j0400633Many people wonder “what are the benefits of taking Omega 3 supplements?” and they are right to be curious. With so many supplements on the market being touted as beneficial and even necessary, you should be clear on the benefits of a product before you spend your money on it. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of these fat supplements and see if they may be worth your while.

Omega 3 fatty acids are considered an essential fat. This means the body does not produce them or naturally contain them; they must be ingested through our diet. The complete answer to “what are the benefits of taking Omega 3” isn’t totally known. The benefits are still being researched, though we do know some of the effects these powerful fats have on the body.

In the Western diet we get a disproportionate amount of Omega 6 fatty acids. Mediterranean diets, on the other hand, have a more desirable ratio of Omega 3’s to Omega 6’s. By reducing the number of Omega 6 fatty acids in the body and taking an Omega 3 supplement, you may begin to truly see what are the benefits of taking Omega 3 supplements.

For a detailed answer to “what are the benefits of taking Omega 3?”, check out these reputable sites:

WebMD’s Good Fat/Bad Fat

Mayo Clinic’s Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Some of the recognized benefits of taking Omega 3 supplements are decreased inflammation, potentially heightened brain and cardiovascular health, lowered blood pressure, and regulated cholesterol levels.

Because the benefits are still being researched, this will remain a hot topic in years to come. For more information in this blog about the benefits of Omega 3 supplements, search for “omega 3” in the blog search bar above.

Results may vary. Exercise and proper diet are necessary to achieve and maintain weight loss and muscle definition.
