How to Get and Maintain P90X Success

man_weight3Success isn’t always easy to come by and this is especially true with transforming your body. Hard work and dedication are huge components when you are trying to lose fat and gain muscle. Having a toned, sexy physique is a big payoff, though, for all of this work. P90X success is based on your dedication to the program and more than that, your dedication to yourself. If you attempt this program with a clear goal and a good attitude, the possibilities are endless and the results are nothing short of remarkable.

P90X success can be yours if you dedicate yourself to the program. This means simply that you need to make your health and fitness a priority in your life. Stop making excuses for not working out or for eating the wrong foods. The only person being cheated by this is your body. You need to make you a priority and the rest becomes easier.

When you decide that you are worth the effort and sacrifice of a hard core workout system you are ready for P90X success. Knowing that the program will be difficult prepares you for sore muscles and even some setbacks. Everyone has bad days. I bet even Tony Horton has less than great workouts. The key is to not let the bad days get you down. Don’t let them set the tone for the program, let the great days set the standard and when you have a bad day, keep it moving.

P90X success depends on both exercise and nutrition. While simply doing the workouts would likely give you some results, it is very doubtful you would see the best results. Only by adjusting your eating habits along with the workouts will you see the most dramatic results and the biggest strides.

We are only limited by ourselves. P90X success doesn’t have to be a long term goal. You can feel successful after every workout. Not everyone can handle workouts like these but you can! Day by day you will see and feel your body begin to change, this is where the success comes in.

I’m interested in P90X but I travel at least 50% of the time for business. How can I still leverage P90X?

    Staff

    Michael,

P90X is a great program and flexible enough to allow you to do your workouts on the road or on vacation. What you’ll want to opt for first is one of our resistance band kits. They are just as good as free weights but they are light-weight and easy to throw right in your suitcase.

Instead of the P90X Chin-Up Bar you can use the resistance bands in combination with the Resistance Bands Upgrade Kit which will allow you to perform modified versions of the moves that would normally be done with the chin-up bar. The Resistance Bands Upgrade Kit contains a door attachment that you loop your resistance band through enabling you to do these exercises. You will notice in the workout routines that require you to do chin-ups, pull-ups, etc., this resistance band alternative is fully illustrated in the videos.

With this minimal amount of equipment you can easily be prepared for your P90X workouts anywhere you go. Just bring along your DVDs, pop them in the player at the hotel or bring along your laptop and you’re good to go! Please see the following links to the equipment just mentioned:

i am 285pds, need to lose at lest 100pds, will the program really work for someone like me, the people i see on tv just need to lose a few pds, to see results i need to lose more, so in 90 days on the Extrem, i should be a healthy weight, thanks Earl

    ps, please reply

  9. Staff

    Hi Earl,

I would first see if you can handle this extreme home fitness program by taking the fit test. It’s always a bummer to start a program and quit because it’s too hard. Try the fitness test. If you can pass, you are ready for the P90X. I know the people you see on TV don’t look that bad to begin with. The fact is, people who have more weight to loose get more dramatic results. I don’t know for sure if you will lose 100 pounds in 1 round of the P90X, that all depends on you. Your results are only as great as the effort you put into your workouts and your diet. The Nutrition Plan is a VERY important factor in weight loss. If you aren’t interested in building muscle or improving athletic ability, go for the LEAN approach. This focuses more on cardio for fat burning purposes. The lean approach is a part of the standard P90X package.

Hello I am really thinking about getting the px90 workout….I have been trying to find a workout that gets rid of that puge at the bottom of my stomach and those show off my abs for the summer….is this workout going to show me these results in 90days???

  11. Staff

    Hello Jessica,

if you follow the nutrition plan and stick to the workout schedule, you will get results at the end of 90 day. How great depends on you! If you are just going through the motions, you will still get results, that’s how great this program is, but if you really “bring it” you will get results that you can really be proud of! Getting a six pack is not easy. You first have to burn off that layer of fat that is covering your ab muscles by kicking butt with cardio, doing your chin-ups and push-ups, and being sure to follow the diet plan. At the same time, Ab Ripper X will be building up your abdominal muscles. So it is possible that you could have some nice definition at the end of 90 days if you really work for it!

  12. Carol

My girlfriend and I are about to begin the P90X program. We have been trying to make sure we have what we need to get started. It seems we will need some weights or the resistance bands, which seem better for woman (and now I see we will probably need the resistance bands upgrade kit if we go w/the bands), a good mat and food to follow the diet. Is there anything else we really need to be successful? It seems like a whole lot of supplements are recommended, but they aren’t cheap! We purchased a whey protein, protein bars and some multivitamines at Walmart and I have been looking for a decent recovery drink. We really want this to work, but we don’t want to break the bank either! Just one more thing. When the diet has more than one thing listed, like for snack time, are we suppose choose between the two or eat both.

  13. Staff

    Hello Carol,

I think you have enough equipment and supplements to get you going! The whey protein and bars are great to have to be sure you are getting enough protein. The recovery drink is very important for muscle recovery and to help relieve soreness, but other than that I think you are good to go!

For the snacks in the meal plan, eat both or all that is listed for that snack time.

  14. Irene

Hi, my name is irene and i weight 200 pounds i want to be very skinny by the summer time and so i tried this but i only got the chaLEAN extreme with no supplements n no ball please tell me if i will be successful with these things in 90 days if i work very hard because i am dedicated to the fullest!

  15. Ismail

Im going to start this workout this week, Im 170lbs. I want to just have more definition and abs. Will the workout give that to me? I usually don’t eat well, I eat anytime during the day but Im on a Basektball team and Im always running, it never shows that I eat and people always say im lucky. If i stay like that, eating fastfood, after the 90 days, will my body have more definition, and would I have abs?
    Thank You!

  16. alfie

hi, A LITTLE DIRECTION I LOVE TO TRAIN HARD, i have the cd’s just dont know were to begin,i would like a program set up ,to see what parts of the body I should start training for.Its not as easy as it looks i am so freaking ready to do thissssssssssssss a little help THANK YOU!!!!!!! XXXXXXXXXXXX POWER.

  17. Staff

    HI Ismail,

you must have a fast metabolism! Honestly if you want definition you need to ditch the fast food. There are three parts to getting abs.

    1. Eat right! You need to eat healthy to help reduce your body fat percentage!! You already have a good amount of cardiovascular exercise in your life…..stop going to the drive through!!

    2. Ab work. You need to develop those muscles by doing ab exercises. Ab ripper x will pump those muscles up, but if you have a layer or fat over them, you wont see them.

    3. Work large muscle groups. Doing the P90X will hit all those areas that really help to burn fat all over. The back and legs in particular really help to reduce belly fat. Muscle development in general speeds up the metabolism and burns fat, so working larger areas will really help to hit those areas that a lot of people have a hard time with, like the midsection.

  19. Berachyah

I want to do the P90X but am having trouble finding the information about the supplements which I need to tell me if I can take them or not. I keep trying to find out if the vitamin 6 pack, that are in capsules, if the capsules are drived from pork gelatin. No one seems to know.

  20. Staff

    Hello Berachyah,

there is gelatin in these supplements casing. In most cases, these kinds capsules are made with a combination of bovine and porcine gelatin.

If you are really interested in taking these supplements, a option would be to open the capsules and mix them in some apple sauce and take them like that.

    -Mike

  21. Berachyah

I’m interested but not able to as to my religious beliefs. So is there any other way I can get the same results with another product?

  22. Melissa

Can you tell me about soreness and training? I have not received my kit yet, but based on what I’ve read there will be a little “good” soreness. If it is mild to moderate, should I work through it, or rest a day if needed? I’ve read about this topic on several web sites, and there seems to be a conflict between how people feel about it.

    Thanks!

  23. Staff

    Hello Berachya,

there are supplements out there that are cased with a gelatin LIKE substance made from vegetables. They can be a little pricy and hard to find, but they do exist!! You can actually buy the empty capsules and transfer the supplement powder in them. One brand that I found were called V-caps.

    -Mike

  24. Staff

    Hello Melissa,

you should work through it!! Unless it’s your rest day. You don’t want to skip a day and lose any progress!!! You might want to pick up a tub of recovery formula to help you get through the soreness!!

  25. Michael Gomez

I want to bulk up with P90X, how do i do this? I am 5’11 feet tall, im 15 years old, and i weigh 146. How much protein should i take, how many calories should i eat a day? I go to school, i can only eat once during school we start school at 8:00, we have lunch at 11:27 and ends at 12:02 and we get out at 2:38

  26. Staff

    Hello Michael,

A general rule to bulking up (not bodybuilder style here) is to use heavier weights and do about 8-10 reps with good form. You also want to keep it slow, speed is for power not size. If you find that you can do 11 reps, you need to switch to a heavier weight.

At your weight, you should be eating about 1800 calories per day, but you might want to make an adjustment if you don’t want to lose any weight.

  27. Tamara

This is my fourth week doing the P90x classic and I am not losing the weight I expected. I have lost some inches based on the fit of my clothes and responses from others. I am following weight watchers diet plan and running on the treadmill for 30 minutes 3 times a week. Can I expect to lose the 25 -30 pounds following this workout???

    Staff

    Hey Tamara,

don’t get discouraged. Some people don’t start to see results until week 8. Also, following a diet plan other than the one that comes with the P90X may or may not work with the program. The amount of weight you will lose by the end of 90 days depends on a couple of things. One thing is how much body fat you start out with. If you don’t have too much to start with and you are starting to build muscle with this program, your weight might stay the same for a while or even go up. Muscle weighs more than fat, so gaining a little muscle and losing a lot of fat can keep your weight around the same number. But eventually, the fat loss should over power the muscle gain and you should start to lose weight. Also, if you start out and are overweight, you will lose more pounds than a person who isn’t overweight. Just because of the amount of calories it takes to do the exercises for a heavier person.

I think it’s great that you are also running. It’s good for your stamina and burns even more calories. Good for you!

If you are overweight, 25-30 pounds is a reasonable number. If not, you might see more of a 15-20 pound weight loss which is still AWESOME!

    -Mike

  28. Kayla

I weigh 176 and is 5’6. My goal is to be 140 by July. Do you think P90x would work for me? Also, with these disks, will I need to use each and every one of them? Or do I just use the ones I need? How many hours per day should I be working out?

    Staff

    Hi Kayla,

that could be possible if you work hard, stick to the diet and stick to the schedule. Even if you lost 25-30 pounds that would still be a great achievement.

You are supposed to do 1 DVD per day and they are about an hour long. There is a specific order they are supposed to be done in as well. Do you have a fitness guide?? If not, you can contact our customer service department and they can give you the info on how to get a replacement.

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/customer-service.php

    Good luck!

    -Mike

  29. matt

The P90X is a phenomenal system and with nearly 20 million users! People are getting great results. If stay dedicated I think you can achieve your goal for July.

The 12 workouts rotate throughout the 90 days. Everything is fully outlined in the included P90X Fitness Guide to show you what workout to do when. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  30. Leah

    Hi,
I have worked out all of my life, but getting older and being a college student I’m definitely not in the shape I used to be in. I used to play soccer and loved to push myself pretty hard but recently I’ve been getting winded and having to use my enhaler which is not how my body ever responded in the past when I was in shape. I know that it’s because I’m carrying more body weight than I am used to and I want to lose it fast and be able to push myself like I used to. I love being toned but right now I really just want to lose as much weight as fast as I can and feel the energy I used to have. I was wondering if I could run or do anything else during the day to drop some weight a little faster? Also, I know commitment is key but like I said I’m in college and am so bad about giving in to cravings that are definitely not healthy. Any tips or advice?

    Thanks!!

    Staff

    Hi Leah,

eating in general is just horrible when you’re in college!!! Either you don’t have much of a selection, or you get into bad habits because you don’t have time to plan out a healthy meal. If I were you, I would follow the portions approach. This would be so much easier for a college student. First, find your nutritional level. Then go through the approved foods list and find things that you would actually eat and be able to get. Then from there, put together simple meal ideas that would be easy to put together. Then all you have to do is sort of check off the portions as you eat them. Simple!

I don’t know if you can make eggs where you are, but an egg white scramble is easy, cheap, and probably the best thing you can eat for breakfast during this program. Get an onion and pepper, or anything you might like to mix with your eggs, maybe some pre-chopped chicken breast, and cut it all up and throw it together in a little tupperware. This way all you have to do is throw some of the mix in the pan, then pour the egg whites over that and scramble it up! BTW….you can buy egg whites in a carton so you don’t have to mess around with separating out the yolks. Another option for an easy breakfast would be oatmeal.

The easiest snacks to have is a piece of fruit, a cup of yogurt, a string cheese, a cup of cottage cheese, or a protein bar. Be sure to have two snacks per day in between meals to keep your metabolism up.

Lunches can be simple too. Try a salad with chicken or tuna. I’m sure you can get these already made from the grocery store or even in your school cafe’s. For dinner, you can’t go wrong with lean meat and veggies. It’s the carbs you have to watch out for. If you can do without the carbs for dinner, you can have a healthy sandwich for lunch. Just be sure to use whole wheat bread and try not to use mayo. Mustard is a better option. Or if you would rather have carbs with dinner, go for brown rice or whole wheat pasta.

Here is an easy dinner idea:

    Whole wheat bow ties
    low fat mozzarella
    spinach (frozen or fresh)
grilled chicken (you can buy already cooked and cut)
artichoke hearts (you can buy in a jar)
a little EVOO—–extra virgin olive oil
    chopped garlic

and whatever else you think would taste good tossed into this warm pasta salad. And if you make the whole box of pasta, you can have this for dinner for a couple nights.

It might be hard to stay away from bad foods, but it will happen in good time. Keep your healthy snacks close by when you get a craving. Those P90X protein bars are actually pretty tasty if you are weak for chocolate! Chocolate peanut butter and chocolate fudge are the best in my opinion. The yogurt berry bars are really sweet if you are have a sweet tooth.

Now, all you have to do is stick to the workouts!!!! Try and do your workout at the same time every day. The morning would be better. I’m sure you have more to do in the evening with homework or hanging out. One of the hardest parts of this program is actually getting up and doing it everyday for 90 days. It’s a real commitment, but force yourself to do it and you will be glad you did come day 90!

    Good luck!!!

    -Mike

  31. Josée

I just started PX90 and it’s great. ONe question: What can you do after the 90 days to maintain your shape? You can’t do the program all year long….

    Staff

    Hello Josee,

in the fitness guide, there is a page that tells you how to do maintenance workouts. It’s similar to the full P90X schedule, but each day is a little bit shorter. 30 minutes per day and still alternating cardio with resistance.

I would do P90X once or twice a year with maintenance in between.

    -Mike
