It is a common misconception that resistance bands aren’t as effective as hand weights. People who believe this obviously haven’t tried using resistance bands and used them correctly. As you will see in ChaLEAN Extreme, high quality resistance bands when used correctly can offer results directly comparable with hand weights.
One of the first things you will notice when you do ChaLEAN Extreme is there is always someone on the DVD’s using resistance bands rather than weights. This is so that those of us who would rather not deal with lugging around hand weights know exactly how to get the same great workout. Throughout the workouts, Chalene makes a point to remind you that resistance bands will give you a good workout and will work your muscles the way you need them to.
High quality resistance bands come in a variety of resistance levels, ensuring that you always have the weight you need for every move. With someone on the ChaLEAN Extreme workouts showing you resistance band adaptations throughout, you are sure to get the same workout as those using handweights.
With ChaLEAN Extreme you are expected to “lift heavy” and lift slow. This means don’t be afraid to use a higher resistance with your bands. In order to get the same results, you want the same effort as with hand weights. Keep an eye on the adaptations as shown on the workouts and you will be certain to gain excellent results with the ChaLEAN Extreme system.

HI,
I was curious are the resistance bands an option for every single dvd used in this program? Including the supplemental dvds not included in the Burn, Push, and Lean phases? Thanks
Hi Caroline,
You can definitely use the resistance bands instead of free-weights. You may find that in some instances the bands are even a better option. In some exercises you may find having a few free-weights may suite your needs a little better.

As a single mother of two on a fixed income, I am in the worst shape of my life at 5’3″ & 138 lbs. I’m dying to do something here that I can truly manage. Is the diet regime one that I can feasibly purchase AND feed my kids (preteen & preschoolers)? For that matter, is it safe for my preteen daughter to participate in? A survivor of a violent crime, I wish to strengthen my body and mind so that I will feel confident & in control again, while teaching my children about strength and knowing what your body can do….
Thanks,
Pamela
Hello Pamela,
It’s obvious that you are already a superwoman in my book so the least I can do is get you started with some tips for saving money and time on this program. This link here will give you a couple of ideas of how to save money on your grocery list.

As far as your daughters are concerned, I would recommend letting them join in with your supervision. Using weights at that age is not really recommended, but following along with the workouts would be a great activity to share with your kids.
Keep us posted Pamela.

Hi friends,
I’m really curious if I can use my Bowflex with this program. I have the Bowflex Extreme 2. I also have a variety of weights up to 10 pound dumbells and a 12 pound fitness ball.
I have a variety of resistance tubes, but no clue what poundage they rate and most were provided for injury therapy.
I’m most concerned about preventing injury as I work through this program.
I’m also trying to decide whether my husband who hates working out would find this too intense. He loves to ride, but has never gotten into working out. He’s the one who wanted the bowflex, but of course, I use it and he just smiles. :_)
What do you think?
Nancy
Hello Nancy,
If you can do some of the moves on your bowflex, go for it! To prevent injury, make sure you drink plenty of water (this will help prevent you from pulling muscles), stretch and take it slow. Start off with a weight you know you can handle, then work your way up. Have you husband work out with you and see how he likes it. If some parts are too intense, there are ways to modify.

Hi,
I was wondering if this is a program that you would recommend for someone who is overweight. (260 lbs, 5″7′) I was very athletic in high school but after being pregnant and miscarrying I wasn’t able to get the weight off. I was tried doing P90X with my fiance and was able to keep up fairly well. The workouts just weren’t interesting to me and were too long. (I wasn’t very fond of Yoga X and Ab Ripper, but they do work!) I can keep up with them and I was just wondering if this was something that would help to build muscle and burn fat. I also wanted to know what size weights it would be best to get? I plan on alternating between the weights and bands and also throwing in a little Kempo (my fav p90x workout) every now and again.
Thanks
