P90X workouts take a lot out of you. You may be struggling to finish some of the workouts, especially in the first few weeks. It’s this time, right after your workout, that the P90X recovery drink can work its nutritional magic. You may need some serious recovery help after your P90X workouts and the P90X recovery drink was designed with these intense workouts in mind.
Immediately following an intense workout like P90X, your body is ready to be replenished. You have worked hard and depleted your glycogen stores. Your muscles have experienced trauma and are ripe for the healing and growth power of perfectly proportioned nutrients. After these workouts, your body needs a lot more than to be hydrated with water (although that’s good too!)
The P90X recovery drink contains the perfect formula of carbohydrates and proteins to help replenish your energy and heal your tissues. It also contains a great balance of vitamins and antioxidants to encourage overall health. It is said that the hour following a workout is the hour you should pump these nutrients into your body because your body is most prepared to absorb them and make them work for you, helping you achieve your fitness goals.
All of these benefits in a shake that actually tastes good! The P90X recovery drink does what only the best post-workout formula can. It helps to repair and grown muscles, replenish your energy and glycogen stores, and washes over your body with vitamins and antioxidants to promote serious overall health. The P90X recovery drink is recommended for everyone beginning the P90X program as its formula is unmatched and designed specifically for this intense program.

The nutrition guide tells you to have a recovery drink as a morning snack. But eveything I read says to have it after you work out. Which is it? I typicall work out at night.

Hi Michelle,
You can definitely obtain the great benefits of the P90X Recovery drink at different times of the day, but to maximize your results, yes, you want to have it within the first hour AFTER your workout.
The nutrition guide assumes you’re working out in the morning, or at least offers a guideline that many people would typically follow. But it certainly does not hold true for everyone’s schedule as many people decide to workout at night.
You’ll notice on page 9 of the Nutrition Guide it reiterates the point of having the Recovery Drink within that crucial hour window after your workout when your glycogen stores are at their lowest. Hope this helps get you on track, sorry for the confusion.

If you are doing P90X Doubles, should you be drinking the recovery drink twice in one day or just after the hardest workout? Thanks in advance for your response!
Hello Jay,
If you only wanted a recovery drink once, I would drink it after your resistance workout. If you wanted to have 2 on those days were you do 2 workouts, you can use that second recovery drink as a serving of protein or a replacement for your bar or one of your snacks.

Can I have this whioe breastfeeding. I breastfeed twice a day.
Hello Erin F,
the nutrition plan is pretty healthy and you shouldn’t have to worry about anything you eat. I wouldn’t take the recovery formula or any of the supplements unless you get an OK from your doctor. Of course if there are foods that you should always watch out for while breast feeding that are a part of this plan, just omit those things. Your baby is most important!

I noticed in the recovery drink the first ingredients as follows; “Fructose, whey protein concentrate, dextrose, maltodextrin” I had to look up the ingredients due to being allergic to artificial sweetners and was surprised that the first ingredient was a sugar, the third a processed corn sugar & the third another artificial sweetner /preservative that I am most allergic to. Do you have a natural drink without the artificial sweetners in which I may possibly get the suppliements I need without the extra chemicals my body would have to break down-not to mention I am allergic to these sweetners? Sorry & thanks so much. Kim
