One of the many intense cardio DVDs in the P90X system, P90X Kenpo will burn calories through powerful karate moves, leaving you feeling stronger and leaner. A fun alternative to typical cardio, P90X Kenpo doubles as self defense and an overall good time.
Started by Hawaiian Ed Parker,Sr., Kenpo karate is influenced by the martial arts of India, China, and Asia. Similar to P90X Kenpo, the authentic Kenpo karate focuses on using the strength of your entire body for moves like kicks, strikes, and blocks.
The first American martial art, Kenpo karate has gained significant popularity since it’s development. Tony Horton saw this self defense approach as a great opportunity for building strength, balance, coordination, and above all, burning calories. P90X Kenpo uses the same traditional kicks, blocks, and strikes to help you get ripped!
The P90X series leaves no time for you to get bored with the workouts. By varying your routines throughout the week and also from week to week, you are able to maintain interest and motivation. P90X Kenpo is a great example of this variety.
Kicking and striking leave you feeling powerful and strong. The P90X Kenpo workout is a great sidestep from the norm and will definitely get your heart rate up.

I’m in the middle of week 7 and have lost about 5 pounds (180 lbs to 175 lbs @ 5’9″). After week 4 I actually gain 1 pound, but drop 3.2% in body fat (20% to 16.8%). In week 5 and 6 I lost 5 pounds. I’ve heard that during the first 4 weeks the body can retain water, which keeps the weight up. I’ve try to focus more on my body fat % to eliminate all other variables (muscle gain, water retention, etc.). The toughest part is getting ride of the love handles. Any suggestions?

Also, getting protein in is very tough. I’ve heard that you should consume 1gram of protein per pound of body mass. Is that true? Egg whites in the morning, 2 whey shakes in the after and/or evening and some beef or chicken, and I’m still only consuming 140 grams. May I should add another shake. “Protein bars” have more carbs than protein, so why to they call the protein bars? Any suggestions for bars with high protein to carb ratio?

My husband does the P90X videos and has had great results. I am 5’1″ and weigh 96 lbs. I want to gain muscle and a few pounds. I’m concerned that I don’t have the 600 extra calories to burn each workout. Suggestions?

Hi,
I have been doing P90x for 5 weeks now, and I have only lost a couple pounds and it goes back and forth. I do not eat gluten or dairy, and usually a pretty good diet. I start my day out with coffee and a protein bar, and eat throughout the day, though my biggest meal is dinner. I am 5’4 and weigh 125lbs. When will I see weight loss results, and should I be doing the lean instead of the classic? Also, if I cannot workout one day I double up the next day. Will this still work?

Hi, I just started P90x but am already in relatively good shape (complete half-marathons in 2:15 and have completed two sprint-triathlons in 1:40) I typically exercise around 4x/week but will up my work-outs to 6 as suggested. I’ve cleaned up my diet and stay between 1450 and 1600 cals/day as I log in daily on myfitnesspal.com So, I’m 5’4″ and weigh 146 – I’m not happy about this thus attempting this transformation. I was happy enough in the 130s in my teens and twenties. Then I had 2 (wonderful!) kids and I’ve been stuck between 139 and 149 for the last 8 yrs. I keep at it, but I get discouraged easily. I do keep trying though. I figure something will eventually work!!! Any and all advice is welcomed!!!!
My measurements are arm 12, chest 36, navel waist 32, hip 38, thigh 24, calf 13.
Thank you!

I’m 1 month into p90x and I can already see the difference. I’m 27, 6’2 and my starting weight was 219. I’m now 207 and can see major progress in muscle development. P90x was the best decision I’ve ever made. I will recommend this to everyone who wants to lose weight. I modified the program a little to make it harder and its been great. I’ve completely changed my eating habits and workout routine for the better because of p90x.
Anyone who’s having trouble in the beginning keeping up, STICK WITH IT !!! IT GETS EASIER, AND IT’S WORTH IT.

I have done P90X in the past and it was really effective and I love it. Winter came along with the depression. I have gained all the weight that I have lost and then some because I quit smoking. I have been trying to get back into the routine of P90X but I have found it impossible. I have read that working out produces endorphins similar to prescription medicine. I have been on depression meds in the past and don’t want to take them. What is your suggestion to get the motivation back to go extreme?!?!?
Hello Jess,
try to find a buddy to work out with. If you can’t meet up every day, contact each other every day to keep motivated. Another tip is to keep a blog. There are many people who blog about their workouts that would be glad to help you stay motivated. Taking weekly pictures also helps keep you in the game because you want to see improvement with the next photo. Working out is tough to get into when you are in a rut, but if you can get yourself to start exercising and eating healthy, and make it a part of your daily routine, you will feel so much better.

Im 6′ 185lbs, I would like to stay the same weight, but gain muscle mass. Which routine would best accomplish this goal?
Hello Jerry,
I would go with P90x and do the classic approach. This way you can lift for mass but still burn fat to help level out your weight. It might be difficult to keep your weight exactly where it is, but keep a close eye on it and make adjustments in your diet or how heavy your weights are when you need to.

I’m on week 7 of P90X and while I’m more toned, I haven’t lost a single pound. I currently weigh 167 and I’m 5’3″ – my doctor says I need to lose 30 lbs.
I eat only lean protein, veggies, some fruit and almost no carbs (under 50mg per day). I eat 1300-1500 calories a day, with 5 small meals (3 meals, 2 snacks, lots of water).
I feel like I’ve done everything right and I’m frustrated by the lack of weight loss.
I realize I’m probably gaining muscle mass, but my doctor says I need to lose weight and I don’t know what else to do. What am I doing wrong?
Hello Mariela,
I would take it easy on the weights to prevent weight gain from muscle gain. Use lighter weights and do the max for reps. Some people don’t see any results until about week 8, so stick in there! As long as you are pushing yourself, giving the program 100% and eating right, you will start to see the results soon.

I need to loose 17lbs. I need to loose 7 percent fat the rest in muscle. If I stick to Kenpo, Cardio and Ab Ripper X will I achieve my goal? How can I loose muscle?
Hello Jennifer,
sticking to cardio will help reduce any bulky muscle. You might also want to add Yoga X to your routine to lean and stretch your muscles as well.

Hello Dani,
I think you just need a change and get into a daily exercise routine. Eating a low calorie diet can help, but you really should exercise if you want to see a change within a mont or two. Stomach fat is tricky. Reducing carbs and increasing cardio usually does the trick. Because you cannot burn fat on isolated parts of you body, you have to lower you overall body fat percentage to see a reduction in your midsection. So you might not think that cardio will help you belly, but it will. Try P90X. This program pretty much has it all and will surprise you body. You will not only lose weight, you will get into great physical condition and be able to take on more than ever before.

Hi! I am a 6 foot, 180 lbs, 32 year old woman. I started P90X just 3 days ago. I have been running periodically on my treadmill for the last 2 years after having my first child. I decided to do the P90x Lean, because I enjoy cardio and need to really TONE. I admit, DAY 1 was CORE and it was difficult, I could not do many of the routines, especially push ups. I had to modify. But I got through and finished. The next day I woke up VERY Soar and a bit discouraged. Day 2 was the CARDIO… and I LOVED IT! I felt great after warming up, I could do almost everything even if it was a little slower but I loved it and had fun! I can’t wait for Kenpo and Yoga. I am an avid “eat right for your blood type” person, and eat high protein and greens and low carbs…… any tips? I have been doing a protein shake after working out…. but again this is day 3
Any advice would be great!!

I am going to try and start P90X this week. What equipment do you say is a MUST to get started? I don’t plan on buying the pull up bar, but would like to get the other equipment to get me on track. Thanks.
Hello Ryan,
you would need the resistance bands and the band upgrade kit to do the chin-up exercises, modified, and you can use resistance bands and handles or dumbbells for the other resistance work. The only other thing that is necessary is a yoga mat. You might find that you want to grab some more equipment as you go along, but this is good enough to get you started.

I’m 20 years old and 210 lbs. I love doing p90x workouts. How many calories do i burn form cardio x?
Hello Nate,
you can burn up to 600 calories with any P90X workout. Cardio X is one that is a little less intense, so I would estimate a little under 600.

Just started p90x and I was curious instead of buying more weights (dumbells) can I use my bowflex for some of the workouts. Will I get the same results?
Hello Richard,
the Bowflex is a great machine and I think you can get the same results as if you were using dumbbells. Maybe even better! As long as you are doing the same motions and working the same muscle groups.

Well I am about to start this program. I am kind of nervous about starting it because I am not sure how it will work exactly with my body time. I am 194 pounds and 21 years old along with that Im also a Marine so I am not out of shape but i want to get more in shape. I kind of slacked for about a year so i put some around the wasit. My family naturally has a bigger frame wether it is muscal or fat so my question I suppose is can I get down to 170. Thats my all end goal for myself and to feel like I am mission ready. Wish me luck and I start today.
Hello Austin,
since you are already in good shape, I think this program can work really well for you. It’s a difficult program, but the more in shape you are to begin with, the harder you will be able to push yourself. As a Marine, I know you will not give up and you will finish the entire program. That is key. Finishing the entire 90 day and following the Nutrition Plan. I myself lost 22 pounds the first time I tried P90X and I wasn’t in great shape at all. Keep in mind that if you really go heavy with the weights, you will be gaining muscle mass which can keep your weight up, but not in a bad way.
