How a Daily Exercise Chart Can Work For You

Tracking your progress at anything is a good idea. You can see where you are making strides and where you need to focus more effort at an easy glance. A daily exercise chart allows you to track your daily workouts and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Your daily exercise chart can also be used to schedule your workouts ahead of time, making it more likely that you will stick with your program.

Research has shown that keeping a food diary helps dieters lose weight. Keeping a daily exercise chart, then should help people stick with their fitness program. By writing down your activity for the day you can reflect on what can be done better next time, or give yourself a pat on the back when you have good days. Being accountable is key in making fitness progress. Keeping a daily exercise chart provides this accountability.

Your daily exercise chart can be as simple as a pocket planner where you write down your activity and the length of time you spent on it. However, you can also study what makes your optimal fitness days better by writing down other things that may have affected your workout. For instance, if you were getting over a cold, you might not have been working out at your maximum potential. Or, if it was 35 degrees when you took your morning run, this could account for a slower time. By putting details into your daily exercise chart you can track what pushes you towards your goal some days and what hinders you on others.

Deciding what to put on your daily exercise chart is as easy as evaluating your fitness goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a column for pounds lost per week could be beneficial, allowing you to measure your activity for the week and compare it with getting closer to your weight loss goal. If your goal is to get faster or stronger, recording times or weights and reps will allow you to know when it’s time to push yourself more or when you can hold your progress steady for a while.

Designing your own daily exercise chart can be simple, using a calendar template in windows or a spreadsheet on Excel. Also consider an online fitness tracking system. Many have free accounts and allow you to not only track your daily fitness, but also your diet, and measurements. Check out the links below for some great options when considering a daily exercise chart:

I just started P90X today and am having no trouble recording my workout on the spreadsheet provided or recording the food. I have no idea what the calendar that accompanied the descriptions of the different phases is for. How do I use this effectively?

    Thanks
