P90X is an extreme fitness program. During your P90X adventure you will push your body in ways it’s never been pushed before. Because it is such a serious workout you want to be certain your body will be able to handle it. The P90X fitness test is a gauge to measure your readiness. You may be tempted to skip the test and jump right in, don’t! It is vital that you begin the program confident that you are ready.
The last thing you want to do is be discouraged by P90X. Although every workout should be a challenge no matter your fitness level, we want you to succeed. The P90X fitness test will help you determine if you are ready for something like P90X. If you began the P90X program without being prepared, you would be discouraged by your inability to complete many of the exercises and you also could injure yourself.
The P90X fitness test gauges your fitness level and readiness for P90X through a fairly short series of measurements and moves. From your resting heart rate to body fat composition, these measurements are great indicators of your overall health. Your resting heart rate is a great measurement for evaluating your cardiovascular health. Some of the workouts in P90X will push your heart and lungs to their limit and you want to be certain that you can handle it.
Basic exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, and squats will measure your muscle aptitude and ensure you won’t push yourself to injury during the extreme P90X workouts. The last thing you want is to injure yourself during the first few weeks of P90X. It will take you out of commission and you won’t be doing any exercises. The P90X fitness test and its results will help ensure you avoid injury.
So what if the P90X fitness test indicates I am not ready for P90X?
If your body is not ready for P90X just yet, not all hope is lost. You just have to get it ready! Don’t put that P90X box too far away, it won’t be long before you are ready to rock with the P90X system and you will appreciate being ready for it when you start. The P90X fitness test will be waiting for the prepared you to test again and pass with flying colors.
To prepare yourself for P90X, try the original Power 90 or even Slim In 6. Either of these systems will get you ready and also begin your body transformation, giving you both cardiovascular and strength benefits while burning fat and beginning the process of changing your body into a lean P90X machine. When you have completed either of these systems, take the P90X fitness test again and no doubt, you will be ready to go!

For a workout plan as intense as P90X, there has to be an equally life changing diet plan. In developing the P90X diet plan creator Carrie Wiatt wanted to make a nutrition program that would maximize the benefits of the P90X program. She knew that P90X participators would be seeking big results and would be willing to make sacrifices for big payoffs.
Wiatt is a notable author and nutrition consultant. She developed the P90X diet plan with the P90X participator in mind. She knew that anyone doing the P90X program must be dedicated to their health and their results. She came up with a great eating program that will get you on the right track, developing better eating habits and also seriously improving the results you see from the P90X program.
Many people are tempted to skip the P90X diet plan and just do the fitness aspect. Be warned: your results with only the exercise portion of P90X will be far less extreme than if you include the P90X diet plan. This plan was made to give you results and do so in a sensible program that nourishes your body and won’t leave you hungry.
The P90X diet plan is a 3 phase program. Phase one is the “Fat Shredder” phase where you include lots of protein, necessary in muscle repair and strengthening, and you will definitely need some muscle repair after the first several weeks of your P90X workouts.
This is also where you will relearn good eating habits and destroy unhealthy ones!
The second phase is the “Energy Booster” phase, this is where carbohydrates are increased slightly and fat intake is low. This phase is designed to give you extra fuel for the fire. It is a more sustainable eating plan and can be used as long as you like.
Phase 3 is the “Endurance Maximizer” phase, an athletic diet, heavy on the carbs. Athletes burn through calories at a greater rate than non-athletes. When you started this program you may not have been able to call yourself an athlete, but after several weeks on the P90X diet plan and workouts, you have earned that status and the new eating style that goes with it.
Overall, the P90X diet plan is a sensible and well rounded nutritional approach. Your body needs food for fuel and giving it the right kinds of food is vital when looking for big results. This plan will allow your body to process food efficiently for energy and allow you to utilize the nutrients necessary for muscle growth, weight loss, and overall health.

Today’s children are very much like the kids of yesteryear. They would choose candy over cantaloupe and pizza over snap peas any day. Kids don’t change in this regard. However, children today do carry some marked differences. For one, the childhood obesity epidemic is at an all time high and our children are heavier than ever. As a parent or educator, it is scary to watch your children grow and grow and know what that means for their health. It is important that we all do our job to learn how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle.
There are two main components to a healthy lifestyle and we know those are diet and fitness. Children have to eat better and move more to fight the weight that today’s day is pushing on them. When asked about how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle I think it’s important to realize that children are not grownups and although we want to lead them to make the correct choices, until they are able to make them on their own, it is our jobs to make those decisions for them.
Children are only able to eat what we provide them with until a certain age. It is vital that during this period we provide them with healthy and nutritious foods. If parents eat fast food too much, kids will eat fast food too much. If parents reward and spoil their children with food, their children will begin depending on food for emotional reasons at an early age. In wondering how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle parents must recognize their role and take control of the reins.
Cooking with the family can be a great way to change eating habits. Give children a few recipes to choose from and let them lend a hand in the kitchen. Learning how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle may cause you to change some habits as well. The overall health of the family depends on your example and home cooked meals are a rewarding way to get started.
One of the hardest parts of recognizing how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle is getting them more active. Just like when you say “eat it, it’s good for you”, children will resist anything you call exercise, particularly if they are unfit. Finding activities that can be fun for the entire family makes fitness an activity rather than a chore. How about exploring trails at a local park or hiking near a lake or river? Take the kids to a museum or to the mall for “wish” shopping. The point is to keep them moving. Frisbee or catch outside is a great workout and provides some bonding time as well.
If the television or video games are to blame for some inactivity, limit them! More than likely the kids will not be pleased with this but blame it on conserving energy (electric bills are no joke right now) rather than telling them it’s an effort to get them off their rear ends.
Knowing how to get children to live a healthy lifestyle and actually putting it into practice are two different things. Just like it takes motivation and dedication to get yourself fit, keeping your kids healthy takes work as well. However, when the health of your child is in question, the decision should be easy.

Omega 3 fatty acids are a group of nutrients, not just one as commonly thought. This group has many far reaching benefits and should be incorporated as part of a healthy diet. There are a variety of Omega 3 sources that make getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids quite simple. An easy and vital addition to your diet, Omega 3 sources can help you in many ways.
Not all fats are bad! Of course the variety around your midsection isn’t great, but as a nutrient, there are good fats. One example of good fats is Omega 3s. The benefits that Omega 3 sources carry are plentiful.
For one, Omega 3s may be able to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In you cardiovascular health, Omega 3 sources have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke as well as reduce hypertension and even help reduce cholesterol. This important good fat has been shown to improve joint problems and skin condition as well.
An important counterpart to Omega 3 fatty acids are Omega 6 fatty acids. Although Omega 6 fats are also important and serve many positive functions in the body, they can cause more harm than good if ingested out of balance. In order for Omega 6 fats to serve their healthy purpose, they must be combined with a healthy ratio of Omega 3 sources. The problem with modern diets is we often have more than enough Omega 6 fats in our diets but are seriously lacking in the Omega 3 sources.
When Omega 6 fats are present in a much higher, unbalanced rate in the body they can actually increase the chances for heart disease and stroke. Because Omega 3 sources have anti-inflammation properties they help to counteract this and allow Omega 6 fatty acids to serve a positive role.
Good Omega 3 sources include:
- Flax seeds
- Canola Oil
- Broccoli
- Canteloupe
- Walnuts
- Spinach
- Cold water, fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel, anchovies)
Finding high quality Omega 3 sources is not difficult. It may have you eating some newer foods in your diet, but the payoff is worth it. If these food sources aren’t your favorites try an Omega 3 supplement.

Home fitness workouts are the best way for busy, modern adults to get fit on their own time. By providing an excellent home fitness workout that anyone can schedule, fitness giants are changing the ruled when it comes to getting fit. No longer do you have to shell out an expensive monthly membership or sign a lengthy contract. Now you can get your exercise in at home when it’s convenient to you, and it doesn’t get any better than that.
Working out in a gym can be frustrating. Waiting for machines gets you out of your zone and never mind when the other gym patrons don’t have the etiquette to wipe them down before walking away. Depending on your gym, the atmosphere can seem like a Friday night at the local hotspot downtown or a rehab unit at the nursing home. Don’t get me wrong, everyone needs to stay fit, but you deserve to workout where you are comfortable and a home fitness workout allows just that.
Gyms are expensive. Monthly memberships can get pretty extreme. Depending on what your gym offers you could even be able to afford one night out at a five star restaurant or, in extreme cases, even another car payment if it weren’t for the membership dues. Many gyms make you sign a year or more contract when you join. This means that even if you are unsatisfied with the facilities, you are locked into paying that crazy fee. With a home fitness workout you might pay for a DVD system and some hand weights. Even then, you can have your home fitness center paid for with 2 or 3 months worth of gym membership dues.
Ladies, have you ever gone to the gym and felt out of place when you realized you were there to workout and not “look pretty”? Men, have you showed up for your workout only to feel like there was a competition going on you weren’t told about? Gyms can be loaded with people more concerned with how they look to the other gym patrons than how their workouts are making them fit and healthy. With a home fitness workout, the only person you have to impress is yourself.
Home fitness workouts allow you to exercise when you want. You don’t have to pack a bag and drive to the gym when you would rather be at home. You can fit a workout in whenever it’s convenient for you, not worrying about gym hours or safety after dark in the gym parking lot.
Choosing a fitness routine that works for you and one that you will be able to maintain is vital. An at home fitness workout is highly maintainable when you compare it with a gym. More convenient and less costly, at home workouts are worth their initial investment many times over. Programs like P90X and Turbo Jam can get you fit in the privacy of your home without the hassle of a gym.

Protein shakes are a great addition to any health and fitness plan. Do protein shakes help you lose weight though? Not directly. Protein shakes can, however help your body reach weight loss and muscle building goals in several ways. Depending on your fitness goals and how you utilize the protein shakes, they can assist you in weight loss and uscle building. Although they won’t directly melt off the pounds, they can help turn your body into a fat melting machine.
First, a high quality protein shake can be used as a meal replacement when you are on the go. Being in a hurry is a common condition for the average adult. Skipping meals, however, seldom has the effect you want it to. Rather than helping you lose weight, skipping meals can backfire and send your body into a starvation mode where it holds onto fat just in case it’s needed as an energy source. If you are used to skipping breakfast, for instance, a protein shake can provide a quick and nutritious source of morning energy. So, do protein shakes help you lose weight as breakfast or lunch for the chronic meal skipper? Quite possibly, yes.
On the other extreme from the busy adult who constantly skips meals, is the one who overeats at every meal. Trying to balance portions can be quite difficult when you have developed poor eating habits through years of practice. Perhaps fast food has become your lunch staple. Replacing your less than ideal lunch (or breakfast) with a high quality protein shake and a piece of fruit will fill you up while cutting your daily calories (as well as fat and sodium). Do protein shakes help you lose weight as a meal replacement? Yes, especially for people with less than ideal eating habits at meal time.
Finally, one of the greatest uses of a protein shake is to capitalize on the tissue repairing capabilities of the protein itself. Protein is responsible for mending and repairing tissues in the body. This includes muscle. When we exercise or weight train, tiny tears occur in the muscle tissue. These tiny tears result in muscle soreness the day after. Protein is responsible for mending these tears. When the muscle tissues are repaired they are made stronger and bigger than before. That is the science behind muscle growth. Using a protein shakes, particularly as a recovery drink or post workout snack can speed the recovery process and help you to build stronger muscles. But, do protein shakes help you lose weight as a recovery drink? They do, and let me finish explaining why.
Increased muscle causes an increase metabolic rate. Yes, the more muscle mass you have in your body the more calories you burn, even at rest. This is because muscles require more energy to maintain themselves. They are hungry compared with fat, requiring more calories to get through the day. If you build your muscle mass, you will burn more calories on a daily basis. So, protein shakes are a great addition to your strength training routine, helping to build muscle quickly and subsequently adding to your resting metabolic rate.
Do protein shakes help you lose weight? Indirectly, protein shakes help you lose weight in a variety of ways. It is important when choosing a protein shake that you analyze the nutrition label. If you are using it as a meal replacement you want to make sure it contains enough calories to sustain you as well as vitamins and minerals to replace what you would have normally eaten. Protein shakes for recovery drinks should contain a good balance or high quality protein and carbs for optimum muscle recovery.
Check out our line of protein shakes. We carry the simple bu powerful Whey Protein Powders, Meal Replacement Shakes, and Recovery Drinks. They’re all a great source of protein made with top quality ingredients and the nutrition information is even posted for your review. We want you to make informed decisions regarding what you put in your body and provide only the best in protein shakes and supplements.

Developing a personal fitness plan can seem like a challenge for someone who has never done it before or for someone who has never made exercise a habit until now. Once you understand the basics of fitness, however, it doesn’t have to be difficult. Pair that with finding the time in your schedule for a workout everyday and you will be well on your way to a healthier body.
The following steps are preparation in developing your personal fitness plan:
1. The first step in developing a personal fitness plan is to make fitness goals. Perhaps your goal is to lose a specific amount of weight or percentage of body fat. Maybe your goal is as broad as “get healthy”. Whatever the case, setting goals gets you in the mindset to achieve the.
2. Next, find time. People who make it a point to schedule their workouts ahead of time are less likely to “run out of time” or push it to the side. When developing your fitness plan, analyze your schedule and decide when you will typically do your workouts. Some people like to start the day getting their heart rate up while others are lucky to get out of bed in time for work. Schedule your exercise at a time when you are likely to stay committed to it.
It is important to choose an exercise routine that you like when developing your personal fitness plan. No matter what your goal is, you should choose a cardio workout and a strength training workout. Remember, the routines you start with can be changed at any time because this is your fitness plan!
Flexibility is good when choosing your exercise routines. For instance if you decide to purchase an at home workout system, choosing one with various workouts with different lengths can really pay off. On days when time is on your side you can choose to do a longer cardio routine and add some strength training afterwards. Other days, a short workout might be all that you have time for.
Do what you can everyday and know that some days won’t be optimal. Recognizing this ahead of time ensures you won’t beat yourself up on days when your energy just isn’t there.
If you can combine cardio and strength training on the same days, you will reap more benefits. If you don’t have time, however, alternating what type of workout you do will work fine too. Being flexible with your exercise is a good route for success. When developing a personal fitness plan you have to know that rigidity rarely works and being able to adjust your workout will help you achieve your goals.

With any exercise program, you want to be sure you are getting results. There are some of us who exercise for enjoyment, but the vast majority does it to get fit or stay fit. So, it is completely normal to wonder “does Turbo Jam work?” prior to buying it. You wouldn’t want to spend your money on something that either doesn’t live up to its promises or is simply unenjoyable.
Turbo Jam was created by elite personal trainer Chalene Johnson. Johnson wanted to create a fitness routine that would transform bodies and do it in a fun and enjoyable way. By combining elements of kick boxing and capoeira with hot dance music, Chalene is able to deliver a workout worthy of everyone’s attention. Now that you know what Turbo Jam is, let’s address the question, “Does Turbo Jam Work?”
The short answer to “Does Turbo Jam Work?” is yes! Turbo Jam has been shown to burn up to 1,000 calories per hour. That is huge! Even running at 7 miles per hour only burns 835 calories in an adult who weighs 160 pounds.
