When you see someone like Tony Horton in action you immediately assume that he has great pre-disposition for a buff body. You might be quick to think that “bringing it” has always come easy for Tony. The truth is that Tony Horton had to work for that beach body just like the rest of us. Like many kids, Tony grew up loving fast food and dreading exercise. Horton was a typical bony “weakling” and probably never thought he would bring a fitness phenomenon like Power 90 or P90X to the world. Not even interested in sports, being a fitness icon was never at the front of Horton’s mind.
One thing Tony did like was acting, so no one was surprised when Horton moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream after graduating from the University of Rhode Island. He quickly realized in Los Angeles, it pays to be fit. That’s when Tony’s quest for fitness began. Horton joined the famous World Gym in Venice and began transforming his body. Studious by nature, Tony read books and asked questions of the pros at the gym gaining insight into what would one day become his own claim to fame.
Preferring a lean strong look to the stiff compact body builder image, Tony Horton stuck to activities that would improve his cardiovascular fitness while giving him the flexible streamlined but muscular look he desired. As Tony transformed his body dramatically, he also started transforming his life and outlook. People noticed!
It was the attention Horton got from his personal transformation that led him to become a sought after personal trainer. Tony Horton has trained celebrities such as Sean Connery, Tom Petty, and Shirley MacLaine, to name a few. His on camera work began when he represented the face of the Nordic Track in the late 1990s. Following that he transformed the cast of the action film The 13th Warrior, creating bodies worthy of the “warrior” title.
Amidst all of the attention, Tony met Carl Daikeler, CEO of Beachbody. The two immediately recognized the potential for a life changing relationship and joined forces. Since that time, Tony Horton, has gone on to create some of the most successful at home fitness programs available.
| Power 90: The first in the P90 series, Power 90 Boot Camp brought easy to incorporate but high powered 30 minute workouts to people craving better health around the world.
P90X: For those who wanted to really “bring it”, P90X was developed as the ramped up, intense progression from the original Power 90. The workouts and nutrition plan push people to really encounter their fitness limits and push past them in a successful effort to get ripped! P90X+ : Yet another step into peak physical performance, P90X Plus pushes graduates of the P90X series past new plateaus. In P90X+new driving music and more intense workouts send even the physically fit into higher levels of athletic performance. 10 Minute Trainer: Capitalizing on the busy fast-paced lifestyle of many modern adults, Tony developed 10 Minute Trainer to get people moving and fit in just 10 minutes a day. By stacking cardio, toning, and body sculpting, no time is wasted and transformations are on the horizon. |
Taking what changed his life, combining his winning attitude and the dream that propels all of the products that carry the Tony Horton name, Tony has become the face that thousands associate with their fitness success. Through hard work and dedicated passion, Tony has realized his own dream and continues to lead others to reach theirs.

Hello,
I just turned 21 years old on June 11th. I have always had an issue with weight, but it was never really a concern. My freshman year in college, I was exposed to black mold in my dorm, and I developed severe asthma. The steroids that they had me on made me gain some weight, but now I have to fight extra hard to look and feel my best. The heavy machinery and equipment in the gym aggrivates my condition and only makes it worse. As hard as I have tried to fight this in the past two years, I know it’s not enough. My father is deceased, and Diabetes runs in every generation on both sides of my family. My mom recently had a stroke, and I was told that I am borderline diabetic. I have hospital bills already hanging over my head, plus now going into my senior year, finances are slim. I don’t have any pictures from my high school graduation because I was too embarrassed to take them, and I want to have something my mom can be proud of this year.
Does your program ever sponsor financially challenged, students such as myself who are endanger of future health issues? I am really interested in the 10-minute trainer, but anything would be a blessing. Please find it in your heart to help someone in need. Thank you very much. Have a wonderful day.

Love the product! Thanks Tony.
My brother and I finish our first 90 days right before his 40th birthday in a couple of weeks. I’m taking him to Vegas for a celebration and would love to deliver an autographed Tony Horton photo for his P90X gradutation/birthday present. Any chance I can get one?

p90x+ exercises are typically time-based rather than rep based. Is it better to use a heavier weight and take breaks during a specific exercise or use a lighter weight and be able to complete the entire 60 or 90 seconds without a break?

I have been working out to p90x and 10 min workouts and I have lot a dress size. I am in the best shape of my life I can workout with Tony and keep up and I feel great afterwards . So thank you Tony and Beachbody team for helping normal everyday people meet their goals in life. By the way is Tony married ? He is about the hottest thing on God’s green earth. I am single and I would love to send him a picture of me that is if he is interested in finding out what I look like.
Hi Kimberly,
It’s always great to hear a success story! Keep up the good work and perhaps by chance Tony will read this post and look you up!

Hi Tony:
I just wanted you to know how much P90X has chaned my life. This time last year I weighed over 325 pounds and could not even walk up a flight of stairs without loosing my breath. However, my biggest problem was my high blood pressure. My doctor told me that i would have to go on medicine if i didn’t get it under control. A week lated a friend of mine who I coach with asked me if I wanted to start P90X with him. I told him I would even though I had honestly never heard of it before. I couldn’t pass the fit test but I went ahead and started the program and did the best I could. Almost a year later now I have been through P90X twice and have also done the P90X+ program. I now weigh around 240 pounds and my waist has went from a size 48 to size 40. My blood pressure is very much under control and at 38 years old I am in by far the best physical shape of my life. My Friend also got great results from the program. If anyone out there is unsure whether or not to give P90X a shot, you just need to go ahead and do it. The program most definitely works.
Thanks,
Troy

Hi-I am a 46 year old woman, about 10 pounds overweight. My legs are a bit shorter than my body so when I do walk alot or exercise my legs tend to get a bit bigger. How can I avoid this and make them appear longer and leaner as opposed to bulkier?
Thanks
Hi Mary,
If you are interested in the P90X, there is the Lean Approach which is just a different way of doing the classic version. The DVD’s are sequenced a little different focusing more on the cardio workouts. This program will help you to loose weight and gain lean muscle. You can also go with the classic approach and use lighter weights and do more reps. This will also give your muscles a more lean look. If you start to notice you legs getting bigger than you would like them to be, you may need to cut down on the Plyometrics. This workout requires you to do a whole lot of jumping which will definitely work you legs quite a bit.

Hello,
I completed one round of P90X. Was quite happy with the changes that occured. Unfortunately I developed bilateral lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) from doing the chin ups. I had to lay off of the work out as even dumbell curls would cause pain. I had my tennis elbows injected with corticosteroids on more than one occasion and now they are doing fine. I have been eager to get started again, but quite concerned about a flare up that I started Power 90 instead. So far so good, no problems with the elbows, but there isn’t any chin ups in the Power 90 workout. I guess my question is do the bands do as good of a job as doing chin ups in P90X?
Thanks.
Hi Andy,
The bands paired with the band upgrade kit can simulate the chin up exercises. If you take a look at the P90X dvd’s, there is always someone using the bands during the chin ups to show you how to use them in that way. The bands are not as hard as the bar, the resistance will be less because you are not using your own body weight. But yes, you can absolutely us the bands for the chin up exercises.

I am 4 weeks into the P90X program. I am seeing extreme improvement, but I have a disorder called scoliosis and to correct my back is fused. There for in the AB ripper sessions the heals to the heaven and body rock are very hard for me to do. Actually I do them but really the lower abs is the only place I am not seeing improvement. I also struggle with some of the “sit ups”. The sessions where there is no real crunch involved I excel, scissors, bike, etc. Do you have any recommendations of other abs workouts?
Hi Shannon,
On the floor ab workouts can be tough with a spinal condition. If you want an alternative workout just for your abs, try Hip Hop Abs. This program is focused on your abs with no on the floor exercises. It would be a little extra time added to your normal routing, but at least you wont be on the floor hurting your back.
http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/hiphopabs-products.php
Also, please be advised that the P90X is not recommended for people with spinal conditions. You may want to consult your doctor before resuming this program.

Hey, I am heading back into the Army august 25th, im overweight by 15 lbs…The running and other upper body workouts have begun to slow down, plateau-ing my weight at about 223, I need to get down to 200. Any serious way to do that in the alotted time, or is it a lost cause?
Hi Adam,
If you start the P90X, you can at least start to break that plateau down and kick start your fitness. The P90X is all about muscle confusion and keeps your body guessing and wanting more. Take the P90X with you or at least the fitness guide. You can do the workouts without the DVD’s if you are familiar with them and you have the guide. You might be surprised that quite a few people from the Military are using this program.

I am 6′ and was 198 lbs. I am on my recovery week from the second stage of P90X. I currently weigh in at 196. I have toned and lost inches but am still carrying a pretty good gut on me. My goal was to get to 180-185 range by completion of the program. The calculations in the nutrition guide put me at an energy level of 2940. That fit to level II almost level III. I ate at level II 2400 cals daily using receipes from the guide calculated to the percentages in accordance with the fat shredder phase for the first 30 days. I remained in the fat shredder phase for the next 30 days and reduced my cals to 2200 cal (275 pro, 165 carb, 48 fat.) Should I stay in the fat shredder for for the final 30 days, reduce cals again, bump up the carbs for the energy phase????? I hold a BS in Exercise and Nutrition and I am stumped by this. My 2lb weight loss came during the first 30 days and I’ve held since. My wife is also on the program and also holding her weight.
Hello Sean,
Most of the fat burn does come during the first phase of the Nutrition Plan. Just because of the way the diet is balanced and because your body is experiencing something totally new with the P90X workouts. If you are pushing yourself and increasing your push-ups, chin-ups, etc. along the way, you will find that you need more energy. At that point, you should move on to the next phase of the nutrition plan. Your muscle gain should start to increase quite a bit in the next phase of the workouts as well. This could effect your weight. As you probably know, muscle weighs more than fat. You may have lost 21 lbs in the first phase only, but what about your body fat percentage? You are probably still loosing fat while gaining muscle which is very hard to determine with a scale. You really need a body fat tester.

Hi! Ive been doing P90X for the past 5 weeks and right now I am doing doubles in week 5….Ive been keeping up with the daily workouts and my eating habits have changed drastically! No more fast food! I havent lost much weight but I’ve gained alot of muscle. I can see the six pack when i flex but there’s still a layer of fat that wont allow my abs to come out! Should I do more cardio? Also, I work on the 7th floor of my building and when I first started P90X, I could barely make it to the 7th floor! My endurance hasnt improved though. I’m a little concerned about that. I m still way out of breath when i finish. Is there something I shoudl be doing? Please help!

I am brand new to P90x and have recently gotten a lend of the plyometrics dvd from a friend. I am currently in good shape and at a good fitness level. I want to use the plyometrics training to help me get that extra push to allow me to drop into optimum body fat range (12% and below). I was wondering how many times a week would it be recommended to perform this workout?

Ok so im not gettin this whole program thing. Theres 12 discs and 90 days. Can you please help me understand an break it down into simple terms for me!
Thank you,
Sara
Hello Sara,
The workouts are scheduled out for you in the fitness guide. For the first three weeks you have a set schedule. Then on the fourth week, the schedule changes but it’s right there in the guide. You don’t do the workouts in the order they come in, you have to look at the schedule in the fitness guide.
The Nutrition Plan is a little more complicated and you should read the through the whole thing before you start. You need to calculate your nutritional level and follow the phases in order, 1-3. Here are your approach options:
Portions Approach: You pick the meals you eat from an approved foods list, while following a daily servings chart.
Meal Plan Approach: All of your meals are pre planned and scheduled out for you, recipes included.
Quick options: You will use this if you don’t have time to cook or if you are out and about. This will help you choose the right foods and some of your favorite restaurants. Also, gives you quick meal ideas to make at home.

I have more of a question then a comment. I am a woman in my late 40′s and have had two children now grown but my body has taken a beating. My question is my stomach has what I call a smile I feel that it will never ever be flat and the only way to get rid of the extra skin would be surgery. Can P90X help me and I really want the truth. Thank you.
Hello Jewel,
everyone has a different situation and different bodies. The P90X workouts will help tone your abdominal area, and the diet plan will help to get rid of belly fat. The first three weeks I did the P90X, my stomach went down a great deal. I’m talking visible results looking at my before and three week progress pictures.
It’s better to try it the natural way with diet and exercise before turning to surgery. What have you got to loose? If this extra skin doesn’t go away after 90 days, at least the rest of your body will be in great shape. Your situation could be similar to those who get their stomachs stapled. They end up having extra skin and the only way to deal with it is to use compression clothing and hide it or to have it surgically removed. You might want to ask your doctor what he/she thinks about this.

Hello Rochelle,
with P90X, you can do both or just lean out. There are three approaches you can choose from. Classic, which is an all around program designed to help you lose weight, gain muscle, and improve overall strength and fitness. The lean approach is for those who would like to concentrate on losing weight. You will also be developing lean muscle, but mostly for toning purposes. Doubles is the most intense of the three. This approach is identical to the classic approach with an extra cardio workout added to resistance day. This approach is for those who like the idea of the classic approach, but would also like to be able to burn more calories through out the day.
It’s not unrealistic, but you will have to work hard and stick to the nutrition plan. The diet is a HUGE part of weight loss in this program.
Good luck!

Reaching across my body, doing push ups & the “torch holding” position can be painful. Sleeping on my sides doesn’t work either. I’m just big in the gut and chest, so I know u can see why I need to get in shape, I look funny with the barel middle. Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Ok, here it is. I am 47yo, on 7 to 9 meds daily (high bp, bad cholesterol, high heart rate, diabetic, heart burn, fatigue, thyroid issues, ect), fat & have NEVER exercised in my life (other than mandatory PE stuff in school), I lost my job on the 19th of February 2010 & have no energy. I want to be strong, healthy & off all my meds, so I’m here for my 13yo daughter for a very long time.
Can I start with P90X without killing myself or should I start on something else first?
And is there help out there from anyone who is done with their DVD set, I can’t afford the price without a job, & unfortunately a lot of people are looking these days.
Thanks
Tee

Linda Lawrence Tony, My daughter bought the P90X program and worked really hard with it and loves it. During the warranty period, she only worked with the first 2 discs and had to put it away for awhile because of her schedule. She went back to it this morning and when she put the other discs into the player, she found the “vibrated…” in the player so bad she thought the player would break. Now the warranty has expired and when she called, they couldn’t find her name and she can’t find the receipt. Tony, she’s 17 and spent her earned money on it and is really upset. I’m really proud of her (she’s a 4.0 student, a hard worker and a great young lady) and wondered if you could help? Linda L.

Hello James,
the P90X might be too tough with your shoulder issues. Even the Yoga will put strain on your shoulders (downward dog, chuttarunga, etc). How are you with push-ups? There is quite a bit in this program. The pull-up exercises would be tough on your shoulder too.
You should probably get cleared by a doctor for exercise before you start anything, but try for one of the less intense workouts like Power 90.
-Mike
Mar 11, 2010 @ 13:48:09
Hello Slavisa,
it’s hard to say wether or not your diet will give you the same results. I don’t know what you’re eating and what your height and weight are, but I can tell you that the Nutrition plan was set up to be used with the workouts and will help you to lose weight. The calories used for these intense exercises are accounted for in the diet plan.
The workouts alone can get your body into better working condition, but when it comes to weight loss, the Nutrition Plan plays a huge role.
-Mike
Mar 11, 2010 @ 13:52:02
Hello Tee,
I would start with a less intense program. If you haven’t worked out at all, you need to start small! If you try teh P90X or even the Power 90 and it’s too hard, you might just quit, and we don’t want that! I would start with the 10 Minute Trainer. It’s not that this program is easy, but you have the option to work out 10, 20, or 30 minutes per day. It will be easy to work your way up to a full 30-45 minute workout like the Power 90.
Good Luck!
-Mike

Hi Linda,
this isn’t Tony Horton, but if you contact our customer service representatives and explain your story, they might be able to get you replacement DVD’s. I am not guaranteeing that they will because of the warranty thing, but it’s worth a shot!
Also know that there are several retailers out there that sell beachbody products. She could have gotten her program from us, beachbody, or another online store.
Good luck Linda.
