P90X: What to do after You complete the 90 Days

You’ve just finished P90X and you’ve never been so fit! You made the P90X a goal and now you’ve reached it. You completed an intense 90 day workout. You’re feeling great and you’re looking great. You don’t want any of this to end. But now you’re starting to wonder, what do I do next?  Where can I go from here?

First of all, if you want to keep the level you have reached at the end of the P90X training, you will need to continue to make exercise and eating healthy a part of your daily life. If you don’t, you will start to lose the level of fitness you worked so hard to gain. That’s the thing about fitness—once you have reached a certain level you’re not just going to stay there forever. To stay where you are you have to keep up the same level of intensity. You have to keep burning off those calories and working those muscles.

If you liked some of the P90X routines better than others or if you just know that your body will continue to have some of the same problem areas, you can modify any of the workouts and continue to use them. If you’re creative, you may even be able to take some of the workouts and add some new moves and exercises of your own. If you continue to eat right as well, this should keep you pretty much at the pinnacle you’ve reached.

But now you can also do one better. The same fitness experts who created the P90X have done it again! We’re offering a brand new set of workouts based on the same theory of muscle confusion—P90X Plus the next levelYou get five all new video workouts in P90X Plus (P90X+): Interval X Plus, Kenpo Cardio Plus, Upper Plus, Abs/Core Plus, and Total Body Plus. All of them work together to enhance the work you have already done. If you achieved great results with P90X, then you are ready to go on to an altogether different plane with the P90X Plus workout.

The music really rocks. All the brand new moves and never-before-seen workouts are set to hot music specially created by Jason Scheff, lead singer of the band, Chicago. Jason really knows what he’s doing and how you feel because he wrote this new music while he was completing his first round of P90X. He knows exactly what you have already gone through and he created a sound track that will really take you to the next level.

At first, you wondered what to expect from P90X—were you going to be able to get through it? Would it have the intensity you imagined?  Now you know. The P90X didn’t let you down so if they say the P90X Plus is even more intense, it’s must be. Check it out!

But whatever you choose to do next, seriously—find something that will continue to keep you healthy and active, and keep doing it and building on it for the rest of your life.

Can I just continue doing P90X if I don’t want to do P90X Plus?

  2. Staff

You sure can! We’ve had people go through 120 days, we’ve also have feedback on customers who have decided to make P90X a continuous part of their lives.

  3. Dan

well I am just about to finish P90X (4 days to go) and I am looking to take it to the next step even though I am thrilled with my results (ok aapart from a little tiny tyre around the midsection lol) but how do these workouts incorporate into the ones I am doing as I believe they run side by side? what is the routine for these as I see you have posted the prder for the original series but do I continue to do all the opther workouts as well and just add these 5?

  4. Staff

    Hi Dan,

You won’t be adding these workouts onto P90X. P90X Plus is a “stand-alone” system with it’s own set of workouts entirely. You can take a peak at the Downloadable worksheets. Visit the following link, scroll down and click on “CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD” link next to the Adobe PDF icon on that page.

  5. Blaine Beaird

    Hi,
My name is Blaine Beaird and I love to work out; I also love your program. I watch it all the time. I am 13 years old; my parents are thinking of getting it for me.What do you think of that?

  6. Staff

    Hi Blaine,

P90X is certainly an intense workout program. The Nutrition Guide will have special eating requirements and the workouts will take approximately an hour to and hour and a half each day. So it is a great commitment. Because you are under the age of 18 you must of the permission of your parents to purchase P90X. You should have them sit down with you and go over the details of the program found here:

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/p90x.php

we also have additional information right here on our Blog. Simply type in “P90X” into the search bar on top for a list of very helpful articles on various aspects of the program. There is no age minimum for P90X but again, this is really an area for both you and your parents to decide on together. Good luck!

  7. Joanne

I’ve been watching your advertisements on tv and am very interested in purchasing the program. I do have some concerns about the nutrition guidelines. I am a vegetarian and didn’t know if you had a non-meat eating plan?

  8. Staff

    Joanne,

The system can be adapted for vegetarians. The nutrition guide is flexible offering different approaches. Any of the P90X recipes can be prepared vegetarian with creative substitution. Keep in mind that as a vegetarian you will have to keep track of your protein and substitutions will likely contain some carbs unlike meat dishes. Despite the little extra effort, we have had many successful vegetarians complete the P90X system.

  9. Brad

    Hi guys,

Great program so far. Peak of my athletic career I played professional hockey in Europe and I have been looking for a quality program ever since I quit 8 years ago. I am 5 weeks in and have not missed a day. I was in good shape before I started, but since I started the program I have noticed exceptional gains. I love the static strength exercises to fast twitch speed exercises to good ol fashion weight lifting. My question is… I work about a 10 hour work day and although I can handle 90 days of the program, long term I would like to have a program call it a maintnence program that will require less time. Will you be designing a maintenance life after p90x prorgram that is 30 minute sessions rather then the full hour and the odd 1 and a half hour sessions? I’ll buy it if you do… and I’m sure there would be lots more who would as well. You could even market it as 1) a pre p90x program and 2) maintenance program (i.e.post) – a great pitch. Thanks. Brad

  10. Staff

    Hey Brad,

    Keep up the good work!

There is a program designed for the P90X graduate. It’s called the P90X Plus. This program will not only help you maintain your new physique, it will enhance any athletic performance and is the perfect tool to quickly build on your fitness accomplishments while getting you ripped beyond belief. The best part, the workouts are about 40-45 minutes long with a 20 minute ab routine. Not all as short as you hoped, but its a start!

Im 18 im really interested in this product i have been working out for about a year now for about 2 -3 hours a day and have made some gains, but it looks like this might work better . My only question is wheter being dairy and wheat intolorant might affect me?

  12. Staff

    Hello Martin,

The Nutrition Plan can certainly be used if you are sensitive to dairy and wheat. If you opt to use the meal plan approach, you can always make substitutions. With the portion approach, which allows you to choose the foods you eat, each category has many foods that don’t all involve wheat and dairy. For example, soy cheese and soy milk are listed under the dairy category as a dairy substitution. There are other options listed in the carbs category besides wheat. This category contains not only carbs but also grains, legumes and potatoes.

My question to you guys is almost the same as Brad’s question. after the completion of the program what next…I understand about the P90X Plus being 45 minutes…is that going to be everyday again or not?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Ron,

The P90x Plus follows the same type of cycle as the P90X. Six to seven days a week.

    Hi guys,

I’ve just ordered P90X n am waitin for it to arrive. I’m 17 yrs old n i luv wrkin out. Do u think dat P90X will have greater effects [such as more ripped midsection (since i dun barely have any fat), bigger biceps, triceps etc.] on my body than the advertised ppl who did P90X since my body is younger than theirs n is still in growin stage?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Faraz,

If you are already in pretty good shape, the P90X could give you greater results by adding to your already fit physique. If you don’t have much to loose, all you can do is get ripped even more!

  15. Faraz

    Hey,

I’m in ok shape. I’m just a bit lazy sometimes. But i was wondering that will P90X have GREATER effects on my body since im still in a growning age or will it have the same effect as anyone else

  16. Adrian

    Hey there,

I myself am debating on purchasing the P90X edition. I watch Tony’s commercials every time and it just makes me want to pick up the phone even more. I have 2 questions; I see all the different routines and i understand the muscle confusion ( which truly makes sense ) but the first work out Chest & Back… do you do that routine for the full week? Or is every day a different work out every day?.. also do you work out every single day or should you space it out, like every second day? I’ve heard that when you obtain sore muscles and they feel really tight that you shouldn’t workout the next day because you wouldn’t get results.
    I guess to sum it up;
    Chest & Back – 1st whole week?
    Plyometrics – 2nd whole week?…etc
Or.. 1st day Chest & back, 2nd day plyometrics.. and so on.
    And;
work out everyday or every 2nd?
If you could let me know that would be awesome!
    P90X’s biggest fan,
    Adrian

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Adrian,

The P90X workouts are done in rotation. There are 12 workouts that are scheduled out. So day 1 you would do Chest and Back, then on day 2 you would do a different workout…and so on. The fitness guide maps your whole 90 days out for you. Each workout is about 1 hour and require you to workout 6-7 days per week. The 7th day is an optional stretch or rest day.

I hope I was able to clear everything up for you! Come back any time if you have any questions.

i lost my P90X Plus Fitness Guide and i was wondering if there was anywhere i can download it off the internet

  18. Staff

    Hi Faraz,

I think your results will depend mostly on how much you put into the program. As a teen, your body has not seen as much wear and tear as an adults body, so the results could be a little different. It’s great you are thinking about this now. If you start live a healthy lifestyle at a young age, those ideas tend to stick with you through adult hood and certainly make it easier to maintain your fitness.

    Hi Danial,

You can’t download the P90X Fitness Guide off the internet, legally anyway. If you submit your request to our support form, our customer service representative will be able to assist you and possibly get on shipped out to you.

  20. Michael

    Hi,
I have been watching your program for quite some time and Im very interested in purchasing the fitness program, but my question is does this program only tones the muscles or does growth of muscles show with good defination close to the end of the 90 days. Also, would it be too much if I worked out in a gym while on this program? Would it be too much for my body?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Michael,

This program will tone your muscles and give them definition. The P90X is a very flexible program and can be catered to fit your fitness goals. There are different approaches to some of the workouts, that Tony will explain, that you can try to get different results. For example:

8-10 reps with heavier weights = builds up muscles, more definition

12-15 reps with lighter weights = lean muscle, less definition

If you would like to workout in the gym as well, make sure you are not overdoing it. If you have the energy, go for it! You can also do your P90X workouts right at the gym too. Just take note of what you need to do and bring your worksheets.

  21. Dave

    Hi,

I just purchased the P90X system for me and my wife. Neither of us are in great shape, I play racquettball 4 times a week, and we both run a little. I guess I am wondering if we can expect to basically get ripped as per the commercials if we don’t start at a pretty good fitness level?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Dave,

Your results in part depend on the goals you set for yourself. If you are not in great shape to begin with, you may have to work a little bit harder. Set your goals a little higher. For example, you can choose your weights and your reps. You set a goal for how many push-ups, pull-ups, etc, that you feel that you need to do. If you keep your goals to a minimum and don’t push yourself, your results may not be as great.

You might also want to look into some of the supplements that were specifically made for P90X users.

    Hello,
I have been working out constantly for the past 2 months two times a day and also train as a mma (mixed martial arts) fighter. I am currently waiting to ship out with the navy and am qualified to go to SEAL school aka BUD/S, i was curious if this system is one that is equal to military workouts, easier, or harder? Any thoughts?
    Thanks so much,
    Shane aka future Navy SEAL

    Staff Reply:

    Shane,

I think you’ll find that P90X is right in line with some of the toughest programs out there including those associated with the military. We have had many people find great success with p90x who were involved in different branches of the military as well as well as police offices and athletes alike. Highly recommend program and that’s not just because we offer it here.

  23. Scott

Heard Tony say he was 45 , am turning 45 in couple months and in not so great shape, can I expect results like the guys in the commercials

    Staff Reply:

    Scott,

You can get great results at 45, like you mentioned the best example is Tony himself. How well you fare is really going to depend on where you’re at currently and how hard you work at it. Also keep in mind that you will have to be committed to the nutrition guide to really maximize your potential for the best possible results

  24. michael

thing about ordegring your program my biggest problem is i live in an apartment and not able to use a pull-up bar is there something else i can do instead. A still get the same results?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Michael,

Yes there is an alternative. During the videos where pull-ups are required they demonstrate a modified approach of using resistance bands in place of the P90X Chin-Up Bar. First you’ll need one of our resistance bands kits (which is also needed for many other routines if you don’t already have free weights)

    Resistance Bands (Men)
    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/resistance-bands-men.php

NEXT, you’ll need to opt for the:

    Resistance Bands Upgrade Kit:
    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/resistancebandUGKit.php

The Upgrade Kit includes a special door attachment that works with the bands so you can do overhead resistance exercises as opposed to using the bar.

It’s a great way to make P90X work in tight places and again you’ll see exactly how to perform each exercise with the bands on the DVDs.

    Hope this helps!

QUESITON IS WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO OVERCOME WEAKNESS OR TIREDNESS AT FIRST, SECONDLY HOW LONG PER DAY, THIRDLY IS MORNING OR NIGHT BEST, FOURTHLY WHAT CAN I ADD TO REGAIN LOST MUSCLE, FIFTHLY WHATEVER ELSE I NEED TO KNOW. IF I CNA GET A REPLY BACK TOMORROW, I CAN ORDER WHAT I NEED TO GET THIS STARTED

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for stopping by. If you’re just getting into working out and you are up against some medical issues as you’ve mentioned you may want to start off with one of our other programs that are a little less intense and then gradually work your way up to P90X. I’d recommend taking a look at 10 Minute Trainer as it’s our most flexible program.

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/10-minute-trainer-products/10-minute-trainer.php

In a nut shell 10 Minute Trainer offers fantastic workouts that combine both cardio and strength training together working your whole body in less time. A 10 minute workout may not seem like a lot but the workouts are high energy and super condensed and on top of that you have the ability stack the workouts. So, when you’re ready, you can do 2, 10 minute workouts, or 3, 10 minute workouts per day. You really get a chance to set your own pace and once you successfully complete the program you can then consider ramping it up to P90X.

As far as feeling tired or sore, you’ll find the first week or two will take a little getting used to. The best suggestion is to really follow the nutrition guide included with the program as giving your body the proper nutrients it needs to perform is extremely important.—both for energy and for after-workout recovery.

For muscle soreness you could also look into a topical formula like Tiger Balm for instance:

    http://www.drugstore.com:80/search/search_results.asp?N=0&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntk=All&srchtree=1&Ntt=tiger+balm&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

As for workout times, it’s really up to you. We often recommend doing your daily workout before you start your day. This helps keep you energized and when you get home from work you can simply relax. I really hope this helps give you some perspective and we’re looking forward to getting you on the path to better health and physical fitness!

  27. John

I plan to gain size by performing 8-10 reps (as recommended) on excercises that require resistance. Will the resistance bands be able deliever the same size results as free weights?

    thanks for the help
    john

    Staff Reply:

    Hey John,

You can definitely get similar results with the resistance bands as you would with free weights. If you start off with just the Resistance Bands Men’s Kit:

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/resistance-bands-men.php

What you can do to up the resistance (weight) is to loop the band. The bigger the loop the more resistance you get. This may seem a bit unclear now, but you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about as this technique is demonstrated right in the videos.

In fact, for all the routines that require weights you’ll see an individual on screen using the bands in a similar fashion. The Men’s kit is a great place to start and should suit you very well. If you’re looking to up it a bit more, I’d recommend looking into our 50 lb band down the line.

  28. Niki

    Hello,

I am a physical education teacher with a company on the side. My husband has his own mechanical company which takes up alot of his time and he also trains MMA. We find it difficult to do the workouts everyday because of our busy schedules. Will we still get the results we want if we do the program 4 times a week?

We are fit individuals (well at least I thought so before the program). Is it normal to be sore for a few days after the workout? I have never been so sore in my life and I wrestle and play rugby.

    Staff Reply:

    Hey Niki,

P90X is no joke :) . Even those individuals coming form an athletic background have found P90X to be a rewarding challenge. The first couple of weeks will be an “adjustment” period and yes, you will feel sore!

This is totally normal. Little by little your body will adapt and you’ll get stronger and the soreness will be less and less of an issue.

Of course doing the program as intended 6 days a week will yield better results, but if you can only do 4 days, I’d say it’s better than not enjoying the benefits of P90X at all. If you can swing 5 or even 6 days a week, push for that, if not do the best you can, you will see results, it may just take a little longer. Good luck and stop back again with any questions.

    -Matt

  29. Josh

Hi, I have been seeing your commercials for a long time. I am 17 years old and I am debating to buy this or not.I am in good shape and weigh about 165 right now. I dont really own any weight equipment. If I bought this what would you think is neccesary to buy. And I would be able to workout to this every single day, it might be on and off, since I have a job, would that ruin the results of P90x?

    Staff Reply:

    Josh,

You’d really want to follow the program as closely as possible for the best results. The workouts are about an hour a day, 6 days a week.

A very common question we get is, “what P90X accessories are recommended to get started with the program?” The P90X program requires that you use either free weights or resistance bands, this is an absolute necessity. If you already own free weights you can use those, if not we offer resistance bands geared to both men and women. The Resistance Bands (Men) kit contains 20lbs, 30lbs, and 40lbs, bands, The Resistance Bands (Women) kit offers 15lbs, 20lbs, and 30lbs, and the Resistance Bands-Complete Kit has all the bands from Men and Women, plus 4 additional bands for even more variety. Resistance bands provide tension throughout the entire range of motion requiring you to remain stabilized, this helps to engage more muscle groups and increase coordination.

One of the most important P90X accessories is the P90X Chin Up-Bar. A crucial element of the program is the development of your shoulders back and arms, and the unique, patented design of the P90X Chin Up Bar allows you to to do Wide Front Pull-Ups, Reverse Grip Chin-Ups, Switch Grip Pull-Ups and Corn Cob Pull-ups, just to name a few!

    P90X CHIN-UP BAR

Another item on the list of recommended P90X accessories is the Manduka Plyo / Yoga Mat. It’s no ordinary mat! It’s a lot thicker and denser than traditional yoga mats and it’s specifically designed for high performance, providing a shock absorbing surface for your workouts, which helps limit stress from high impact exercises.

One of the most popular and effective P90X accessories is the P90X Recovery Formula. P90X is an intense program, after every workout your body needs to recover. The faster you recover, the faster you can progress. P90X Recovery formula gives your body the protein, vitamins and antioxidants it craves after your workouts.

While all of the additional equipment and nutritional supplements we offer along side the P90X found here:

  30. melinda

me and my husband our on are 6th week love the workouts, my concerns is i am noticing toning, but no weight coming off. i started doing doubles and trying to put more cardio in my excerices. is there another way are should i be patient and it will come. thank you

  31. Staff

    Hi Melinda,

Congrats on sticking with the program to week 6!

Everyone is different. Some people drop 5-10 pound in the first couple of weeks, for others it takes a little longer. Right around week 8 to week 10, you should start to see some significant changes. One issue that we come across is that folks tend to stray from the nutrition plan. How are you doing with following the P90X Nutrition Guide?

    -Matt

  32. melinda

since we have started the workout we started eating healthy. we looked over the nutrition guide and it was pretty much the same. we have cut out sodas sweets etc. eating whole grain, cutting out white and eating more fish chicken vegs and fruit. okay i will still be patient and see. thank you.

  33. Sean

Hi, I have a few questions. I’m 17 and im about three weeks into p90x. Im very impressed with how difficult the workouts are but I’m a little worried with getting toned instead of size (especially with pecs). Is it alright to workout at the gym along with doing p90x? For example doing bench press exercises on a yoga or plyometrics day. Will this extra excersise interfere with my results?

My other question is if I am too young for this? I have seen people who are older then me very satisfied with their results but most of them are very lean and they are happy now because they were a little overweight before. Is this excersise based on losing weight or can it be used to become bigger (in muscle size), more ripped, and gain better results then a routine in the gym?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Sean,

You are on perfect course for bigger and more chiseled body. If you started off with the Fat Shredder in your Nutrition Plan then you wouldn’t see the mass going on quite yet. Week four is when the Nutrition Plan packs on additional carbs and other nutrients to help bulk up your muscle mass.

Working out in the gym, along side of your P90X workouts, is OK as long as you don’t over exert yourself. Remember, you don’t want to be to tired from lifting weights all day and then put your Tony in and you don’t have the strength to do a single push up. Just work out at a pace that is comfortable for you. If you can handle P90X workout and your own side workout then go for it. Keep in mind, a good diet is going to be crucial to live that kind of workout style. Make sure you’re following your nutrition guide daily and you should have no problem doing both.

Lastly, there are many people who contact us under the assumption that P90X is a weight lose program. But in fact it’s a home workout routine designed to get you into top physical condition. For those who are overweight this means they will loose weight. However, P90X takes into consideration that not everyone is the same. The nutrition guide will outline different approaches you can take as far as your diet is concerned. If mass and toned is your goal, we recommend skipping the Fat Shredder phase and go straight to phase two, Energy Booster.

Good luck with the workouts and keep us updated on your progress.

    -Nate

  34. Sean

Thanks for answering all my questions. I’m definately going to keep up p90x and add in a few gym excersises. I’m gonna stick to the diet alot better now, knowing how much better it can improve my results from your advice. Thanks again and can’t wait for day 90.

  35. Andrew

I am ready for P90X. I have the DVD, a pullup bar, a yoga mat, and the mentality. I need a few questions answered, first:
    1) How many sets of dumbells do I need? Am I going to be okay with a pair of 15lbs or will I need a lot more than that?
    2) I am a college student, and I am wondering how expensive it is to follow the nutrition guide precisely to my needs. Are there certain meals that I can find in my college’s dining hall?
    3) What is the best way to recover from the brutal plyo disc? I have done the workout before and needed an ice bath in order to get out of bed the next morning! If I don’t have an ice bath around next time, what should I do/eat?
    Thanks

I am an extremely picky eater. I don’t eat a lot of junk, but probably don’t eat exactly right either. I have already purchased P90X and plan to start soon, but I am concerned that I won’t see results because most (ok almost all ) of the foods inthe nutrition guide I don’t like. I am a very plain eater. Any suggestions?

    Hello Sue,

Although following the Nutrition Guide is very important to getting your desired results, we understand that not every ones tastes are the same. Keep in mind that the Nutrition Guide is just that, a guide, and we really want to encourage people to be creative in your meals but be healthy about it. Use the Nutrition Guide to give you examples of how you should eat the foods that you like. Take in mind its portions and ingredients and come up with your own Nutrition Guide of foods that you like. Don’t be afraid to read the labels in the grocery stores and find a menu that works right for you.

I’ve also included a link below with some helpful advice of how to shop and other tips to go along with your Nutrition Guide.

I just started P90x im berely on my 3rd day, and ooohh its pretty tuff . But all that of that burning sensation and the soreness the next day tells me P90x is going to give me great results. The reason i started P90x is because i just finished my last high school football season and the workouts there werent really that useful for me to get ready for college football, so hopefully P90x will help me out alot

    Hi George,

Congratulations on sticking with the program. Tony puts you through some of the most challenging yet effective workouts, many people have ever been through. Based on your comment, I am sure you’ll be in top physical shape by the time College football season comes around. Good job and keep “Bringing It”.

HI I have just started the P90X program. I am wondering when I finish the 90 days which phase of the nutritional plan I should follow. There does not seem to be much info after you finish in regards to nutrition. Wondering if you could give me some advise.

    Staff Reply:

Many successful P90X “graduates” continue on and modify the program to their liking opting to do more or less of a particular routine, some opt to take it to the next level and begin P90X Plus. It is really all up to you. If you want to maintain the results you have achieved after the 90 days you will need to make exercise and healthy eating part of your daily life.

As far as nutrition after P90X goes, I would suggest using the Nutrition Guide as an example of how your meals should be made. The goal of the Nutrition Guide is to serve you ideas on how to make creative meals within your portions guidelines. You will be staying with phase III after P90X and continue to try new recipes based on the Nutrition Guide portions parameters.

So have fun with your meals and make then your own. Also try P90X Plus and push your body to the max again for better results.

OK my husband and I have started P90X. Both of us are finding it hard to get the required amount of protein servings. We are both using the portion approach (this fits better with my picky eating habits!) in Levels 1 and 2. My question is this… the nutrition label on the food product will say a serving size is 1/4 cup, with only 30 calories. The nutrition plan guide says a serving size is 100 calories. Which do we use as our serving size? Do we use the food label on the product or do we have to consume 3 times what the label says to get the 100 calories inthe P90X nutrition guide?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Sue,

You are going to combine the information from the Guide and the labels. If you are going to eat a serving of crackers, you are going to want to read the label and see how many you can eat to where it equals 200 calories. Now in the Nutrition Guide, it says 12 crackers equals 200 cal. That may not be the case for every brand or cracker. So you have to use the amount of calories for each portion and use it with the food label, respectively.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your workouts.

hey guys. I’ve been doing P90x on and off. I started it consistently about 6 months ago, but i could’nt finish due to my wife having our baby girl. So her and i just decided to pick back up on it again. We are on our 2nd week. My question is after we finish P90X we would love to try the P90X+ , and we are seriously thinking about buying it. But here is the thing, p90x is for the 90 days, so what about the p90x+, how long are we suppose to do the workouts? I know they are 6 times a week, but for how many months is it?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Jorge,

P90X Plus, is made as an addition to P90X. It gives you some more exercises that you can integrate into your P90X workouts. Once you finish P90X you don’t want to just abandon your workouts altogether. You want to put your own spin on them to increase the intensity of the workouts. P90X Plus shows you how to make P90X your own and adapt them into your daily workout lifestyle.

The P90X Plus is not set at a number of months to complete, it is just an addition to your workout schedule.

i just got p90x and i was wondering how much weight do i need for the dumbbells? i have dumbbells up to 30lbs on each one, im wondering if that will be enough for the full 90 days since i do around 12 strict reps of 25lbs now?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Sam,

The dumbbells that you have are perfect for the P90X workouts. Tony, himself, only uses 30 lb weights throughout the whole series, so that is just fine. It may seem easy thinking about it, but adding 30 lbs to the workouts Tony has you doing, will make those 30 lb weights feel like 80 lb weights real quick.

    Enjoy the workout!

    Hello

I am in the first week of the third phrase and I have to admit that I am so happy with the P90X that I cancelled my gym membership. I have been going to the gym for past 12 years and just had enough. Was bored out of my mind.

I already received the P90X Plus in the mail and cannot wait to get into that 90 days.

I was already in pretty good shape but now the muscles are really popping out with all these new cuts. The best part is my flexibility, conditioning, endurance, etc. All things I never got from weight-training in the train.

I was also one of those guys who never did legs and now I actually have muscles in my legs instead of those chicken legs.

I am so thankful for P90X. I have no complaints at all.

    Thanks and God Bless,
    Kevin

    Hi,
Im Juan and I enjoy staying fit and my parents really want me to stay fit with this program. The only thing is that im 16 and im not quite sure if this program will work for me.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Juan,

If you have the determination and drive to get into the best shape of your life, then P90X is definitely for you. Your age is not an issue, we have had 13 year olds successfully complete this program. Here is a link for the P90X fitness test:

    http://www.beachbody.com/text/products/programs/p90x/p90xFitTest.pdf

Do the various exercises and if you can successfully complete the requirements then you are ready for the P90X. If you cannot complete the fit test then we recommend you start with Power 90, the precursor to the P90X. Many people have had great transformations by starting with Power 90 and following up with P90X. However, if you can manage, P90X will really whip you into shape.

Hi P90X fans and staff. I’m just starting Phase 3 of P90X and I love my results and I can’t wait until I see how I look at the end of the next cycle. I’ve ordered P90X+ but I simply would like some clarification on some issues:

    1. Should there be a downtime from ending P90X and starting P90X+, ie. a period I stop working out. I want the best from muscle confusion so is taking a week or two off from working out more of a hinderance than a benefit;

    2. As I will be doing P90X+ for 90 days, do I need to start with the Phase 1 diet as I’ve already melted tons of fat away? Would you typically recommend splitting 6 weeks of Phase 2 and 6 weeks of Phase 3?

Guys, I appreciate your help. I’ve read this forum which sort of points me in the right direction but I wanted to ask these specific questions. Your programs are truly great. All the best.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Chris,

    Great questions!

    1) In order to get the most out of the muscle confusion program, you should start as soon as you can. Don’t give the muscles a chance to relax and start over, then it would be muscle learning instead of muscle confusion. So start back as soon as you can.

    2) You are absolutely right about starting on Phase II from the nutrition guide. Unless you are still concerned about knocking off some additional pounds, then you should skip Phase I altogether. That way you will be right back into the mix with your body building diet. Your suggestion of 6 weeks of each Phase is exactly what I would have suggested. Looks like you are on the ball.

    Keep us posted!

    Hi all,

Almost done the regular P90X and I love the results, so much so that I’ve even looked at all your other programs because you are making me a fitness nut! :) I know I can do the P90X+ after my initial 90 days but would you tell me how One on One with Tony Horton works. I see that there are currently 9 DVD’s but do these form an entire workout routine or are they something you fit into your current workout routine as extras? They look insane and I am very interested in them but I also don’t want to lose my P90X results!! Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers,

    P90X Staff

I’m a 47 years old. I’m in Afghanistan with the U.S. Military. My much younger Buddy and I started your program 3 weeks ago and we love it. In my early days I was a competitive power lifter. For the past thirty years my route has always included heavy lifting and running. I have stopped all of that and I’m only doing P90X.
    I have two questions:

    1. I’d like to add some heavy lifting (benches, curls and deadlifts) while doing P90X. I believe I have won my last Bench Press contest when I was in Habbinayah, Iraq a few years ago but I’d still like to keep my strength up. I was thinking about doing one heavy weight lifting exercise per day on the days I don’t use weights in P90X (Plyometrics, yoga, Kempo). What do you think about adding the heavy lifting?

    2. Once in awhile missions take me away from an environment where I can workout for a few days (1-3). Should I just skip those days or should I pick-up where I left off?

After more than 30 years of doing the same thing when it came to my exercise routine, I needed a change and P90X is it. I’m committed to the P90X workout and people in the gym are always watching me and ask what the hell I’m doing. I just make the “X” with my arms and tell them about your program.

    Thanks, Mark

By the way Tony, “I hate the ab ripper but I love it”!

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Mark,

There are many people who add their own exercises to the P90X. This is ok as long as you are allowing you muscles to repair by not working the same ones two days in a row. If you are doing heavy lifting, you may want to try the P90X Peak Recovery Formula. This will help reduce soreness, repair muscle tear, and aid in muscle build.

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p90x-products/p90x-peak-recovery-formula.php

If you are unable to workout for a few days, just pick up where you left off when you get back.

I’m interested in starting px90 can but I have a gym membership can I use my px90 workout at my gym?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Frank,

Yes. You can do the P90X at the gym. I would suggest looking at each DVD just so you know what the exercises look like, then just take your fitness guide with you to the gym. The guide will tell you exactly what workout to do on what day, as well as explain each exercise you should be doing. Bring a pen and keep track of your results! It may be easier to do the resistance workouts at the gym and perhaps you can do the cardio and yoga workouts at home so you don’t have to keep stopping to check your guide.

    Hi,

I am 31 and just had a baby (not my first) I am currently nursing and unhappy with the way my body looks-I used to be in really good shape (worked out with a personal trainer) but not any more I need help. The question I have is since I am nursing I do not want to take any supplements or anything other than my prenatal vitamins will I get great results without using them? by great results I mean will I get my body back?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Christina,

You don’t have to take the supplements for the P90X to give you results. The supplements are made to maximize those results. Getting your pre-baby body back is tough, but it can be done. I have two children of my own and it took me a while to get back to normal. I was thinking it would go away on it’s own after a while, but boy was I wrong! With the P90X, I was able to get an even better body than I had before the kids, but I was very careful to follow the Nutrition Plan. This plan will help get your body fat percentage down so your new muscles can shine through! If you can follow the Nutrition Plan (of course being careful not to eat anything that can effect your baby through breast milk) and stick to the workouts, you can get your body back. Also, keep up the breast feeding. It helps you to loose weight and tighten up you belly.

    Hi,

I am 19 and i started the p90x 4 days ago i just got done with my first yoga workout. i was wondering if i should be running or doing some type of cardio workout on top of my p90x workout. I want to make sure i can get the best results possible and i didnt know if i could acheive that without running.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jim,

If you feel you need the extra cardio, sure, go for a run. Some people already have running or swimming routines before they start the P90X and often ask us if it’s ok to continue. It definitely is as long as you are keeping track of your energy levels. Check out the Double’s schedule if you want an idea on where to add some more cardio. You certainly don’t have to add to the P90X to get results, but you can if you want to burn some extra calories.

How much time should I take off before starting another round of p90x. I am 13, and am doing the classic day 64.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Hessan,

Wow! Great work! Only 13 and 26 days left of the P90X! You don’t have to take any time off if you don’t want to. If you do, try not to take too much time off but keep exercising and eating healthy.

There has been many teens asking if the P90X is something they can do. We tell them, yes, as long as parents are ok with it and they make sure to do each exercise correctly so they don’t get injured. It would be great if you could write a little something about your journey for other teens to learn from.

Ok, I live in an apartment and many of these great workouts bother my neighbors (I don’t push as hard now to stay quiet) . Do you sell it already in a format for ipods? So i can do it at the gym…

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Danny,

We don’t sell the P90X in iPod format, but you can still take your fitness guide to the gym. The guide gives you all the information you need to complete your daily workout. It may be a little difficult to do the cardio and yoga routines because you may need to stop and read what you need to do next, but the resistance workouts are very easily done at the gym.

  54. Jim

I just purcahsed the P90x and planned on using dumbells and no bands. Can you please confirm this is OK?
Also I have a pull up bar which is a basic bar. Will a basic pull up bar work for the program or is mandatory to have the P90x bar?

    Thanks, Jim

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jim,

Yes, it is OK to use resistance bands with the P90X. They will actually show you how to use them in the video. A basic pull up bar will work perfectly as well. The bar they use in the video is pretty basic! It’s just easier for most people to get a smaller chin-up bar they can use in most doorways in their home.

  55. Jayme

Me and my husband are wanting to purchase this. And I really think it will work. However, I am alreay pretty in shape ( I can run 3 miles a couple times a week and do aerobic/ muscle training a couple times a week), but I am looking for a more low impact training because I have knee problems. Is this pretty low impact (I know I can’t avoid all impact). I also don’t want to bulk up, do women often bulk up in this work out?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jayme,

This is actually a high impact workout. It’s is not recommended if you have knee problems. You should consult your doctor if you are still thinking of trying the P90X.

Many women are P90X’ers. If you don’t want bulk, all you have to do is use lighter weights and do more reps.

I am about to finish the P90X Classic. I plan on beginning the Doubles. So I was wondering, instead of doing the Cardio X, can I substitute in Plyo X.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Marcus,

You can, but you would be doing Plyo twice on some days. Also, Plyo is more difficult than Cardio X, so you may not want to go that route. Try it. You may be up to it!

    -Mike

  57. Isaac

After completing the 90 days,is it ok to just keep doing the P90X workouts? If so,then do you do the same routine as the first 90 days? I dont want to get a big bulky body by doing the workouts to much,i’d like to mantain a nice lean muscled body.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Isaac,

You can choose the workouts you feel will keep up your results and schedule them how you like. Just for maintenance, that would be perfectly fine. If you want to keep getting better and better results, you would go for a full second round.

    -Mike

  58. Ahsan Ali

Go I am a week into the program and wanted to know about what food should I eat given that I have an ectomorph body. I am 5′7 and weigh 115.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Ahsan Ali,

You should make sure you get a good amount of protein and carbohydrates. Protein will help you build muscle and eating more carbohydrates will give your body energy for working out instead of your body taking energy from itself. If you are following the Nutrition Plan, you would probably need to adjust it a little and give you self extra protein and carbs.

  59. Allan

Hello, I completed my 90 days and was look for some ideals on a few maintenance workouts to do. I’m going to start my next cycle in 4 weeks.

Thank you for any help you can give.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Allan,

Congratulations on completing your first 90 days! If you are taking a break for the next 4 weeks, I would make sure to do yoga once a week, one of the cardio workouts once or twice a week, and do the first round of the resistance workouts. This will give you a great maintenance workout while you are taking it easy.

Check out page 40 of the fitness guide for more info on maintenance.

    Hey,
So I was thinking of getting p90x because I already love to workout and eat right, but my results aren’t as great as I would like.

My question is, if I already have a food plan that works (due to allergies and such) would I still get good results without using the p90x food plan?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jessie,

You will still get some results, but the P90X Nutrition Plan was specially designed to complement the workouts and it does that in three phases (workouts are in three phases too). Phase one allows you to burn fat with just enough energy to get through the workouts. Phase two increases carbs for more energy as it is needed for the increased intensity of the workouts. Phase three is similar to an athletic diet, which by phase three of the workouts, you will need. I would say at least take a look at the nutrition plan to see if you diet is similar. Perhaps you can make a few adjustment to your current diet to make it work with the program to better your results. The best thing to look at is the daily servings charts, one for each phase. At least you will know how much of what kinds food you should have each day while doing this program.

  63. Staff

    Hi Richard,

There is information about maintenance in the fitness guides, but at this point, you have to be an expert! I would take workouts from both programs. Schedule them how you like. Get some cardio in a couple times a week, get some resistance workouts in (just the first round of each, 30 min 3 x a week), and some yoga would be great. To maintain your results, you don’t need to do a full out program.

    -Mike

    Hi everyone,
I’ve completed P90X and am only 2 weeks from finishing X+, and I’m SO happy with my results. My only concern is I wish my muscles (primarily my abs and arms) would show more. I eat incredibly healthy and “bring it” but there still seems to be a stubborn layer of fat.
Is there something I can do/improve, or with time will my muscles become more obvious?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Caroline,

It’s great to hear of your success! Most people have trouble areas that can be a real damper on their fitness goals. Abs are usually the culprit! You want to try and lower your body fat percentage to uncover those muscles by eating fewer simple carbs and upping your cardio workouts. This may help zap that last bit of stubborn fat. Also, for your arms, try using heavier weights. This may bulk them up a bit, but building muscle helps to burn fat by increasing your metabolism.

    -Mike

  66. Matt

Someone had this question already but the staff didn’t answer him correctly… I was planning on purchasing the program and already have a set of free weights and a pull up bar. The program recommends you buy resistance bands but since I have weights is that really necessary? The less money I have to spend the better.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Matt,

The resistance bands are an option if you don’t have dumbbells. The previous post was saying you can use either. If you already have dumbbells and a pull-up bar, you don’t need any other equipment to do this program.

  67. Jason

I have been doing P90x for about eight months and have also worked in P90x+. I am very happy with my results but would like to add greater size to my chest. Seems push-ups violate the “8 to 10″ rule. What about adding bench press and working in the 8-10 rep range?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Jason,

Yes, for the purpose of adding bulk to your chest, push-ups might not do the trick. At least for someone like you who has been doing this program for quite a while and probably have great definition in that area already. At this point in the game, you can certainly add bench pressing to your workout. Life after the P90X can be whatever you want it to be. If you want more bulk in your chest, bench pressing is the way to go. You might opt for a more simple plan if you just want to maintain the results you got from the P90X, but you are definitely in a better position now to determine what exercises would work best for you.

    hello
I am 13 I hope you remember me from my previous posts! well I have completed one round of p90x and am currently on phase 2 of round 2 of p90x and one on one hybrid workouts!
p90x is an amazing program and has done wonders for even at my age I have pushed my body to its limits making every workout fun and intense!
I have gotten great results from the program! I have also learned to push through the burn!
Currently I love one on ones since they deliver very intense workouts in 30-50 minutes! I think p90x is great for teens if their parents are ok with it and they use very proper form!
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY that is the rule I obey! also with p90x I have gained about 10lb of muscle and increased flexibility and balance! And I have learned the lesson of eating right I have followed the p90x nutrition plan to a T and I love it and still follow it!
I will soon buy p90x plus after my second round to add some variety! this website is very informative and contains great articles! Thank you for this article and writing wonderful articles

I apologize in advance for asking a question that has been discussed ad nauseum, but it seems that the more I read about it the more confused I get. I’m currently in week 13(recovery week) of my first round of P90X-classic and I want to do a couple more rounds before going on to P90x-plus. For my second round I’m going to do the doubles program to add a little extra cardio and hopefully burn off some of that stubborn fat, I just need a little clarity! Do I just re-do the program from day one as it pertains to both the diet and the workouts, or do I start at different levels because I’ve been doing the program for a little while? I’ve seen some suggestions that say that you stay at phaseIII diet while keeping the workouts the same, others say phaseII diet, and some say to skip level I workouts and start at level II…..please help!! If you could please be specific; If it were you and you were starting your second round of P90X( this round doubles) what level workout and what phase diet would YOU start at?? Thanks so much for your time and the invaluable service you provide!!

I am currently in my last week( recovery) of my first round of P90X classic and I am looking at doing the doubles version before moving on to P90X-Plus. I’m just unsure if I’m supposed to start over from day one and go through the program as if it were my first time, or am I supposed to start at a different phase as it pertains to both the workouts and the diet plan. I’ve read some suggestions that say you stay at phase III of the diet while starting level I workout, others have said to skip level one workout altogether and start at level II …….help!!! Please be specific, if it were you and you were starting a second round what level workout and what phase diet would YOU start with?? I just want to have the piece of mind to know that I’m doing the right thing to maximize my results. Thank you so much for your time and the invaluable service you provide….your changing lives!!

    Hello Chris,

After round 1, if you want to do a complete second round, start with Phase 1 day 1 of the workouts and go from there. Start from the beginning. Classic or Doubles. As far as the Nutrition Plan goes, if you are interested in loosing some extra body fat, you can go back to the fat shredder phase. If you are happy with your body fat percentage, stick with the phase you were in when you completed round 1, especially if you are moving from classic to doubles which will require a little more energy.

I apologize if some responses are different than others. We really try to give each post a personal answer. People have different goals and a canned response may not work for every post related to this topic.

Hello, im at my 2nd day in p90x and i have to say this workout is very intense. I really appreciate the hard work you guys have put into this program and i cant be any more happier, my body is hurting on my second day and it makes me feel really good. My only question is that, im trying to gain a lot of weight since im pretty underweight at the moment. Can you give me any tip on how much calories and protein i need to consume every day? at the moment im 5 foot 4 inches and only 115 pounds im trying to get to 140 pounds by the end of the year.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Shin,

Increasing you daily caloric intake will help. Using heavier weights along with adding an extra serving or two of protein will help add bulk to your muscles which will also help you to gain weight.

    Hi,

I’m looking at buying the p90x but haven’t really been able to find a clear answer on what extra equipment I need to purchase. What comes with the system and what will I need to buy to complete the workouts?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Hi,

I am in week 10 and am going to do a second round when I get done. I already have the plus DVD’s and would like to do them after my second round but I don’t have the guide for it to show the daily routines to do. I see where you can print out the activity sheets but where can I get the guide for the daily workouts.

    Thanks,

    Andy

I ‘m on my last week of P90X. I was going to do the lean program next, but you say that I should rest for at least 2 weeks between programs. What do you mean by “rest”?

  75. Mike

Can you use P90x and eat whatever you want and still get the same results?

  76. Ethon

If I don’t eat fruit or vegtables will that mess up the work out or nutritional plan?

  77. Tina

Hey guys. I wanted to ask you guys a a question since you’ve been really good at responding back and why not ask the staff members that know the p90 better than anyone else.
My question to you is, would I have to go through the motions of each and every video to see results or can I skip to certain ones (i.e. abs, cardio). My problem area is my stomach but the rest of my body is fine and I just wanted to know would it be okay to skip to the abs, cardio, yoga, etc because I honestly don’t have an hour a day I can put away because my life is kicked into high gear and I have a very busy and hectic schedule.
    Thanks in advance!

  78. jay

I’m just about finished with my first 90 days and I’m extremely pleased with the results. I’m very motivated to continue the program with another 90 day cycle. However, I don’t really need to loose any fat. At this point I’m looking to maintain my body fat level but add muscle weight. Any suggestions on how I could alter the program to help promote more muscle gain instead of weight loss? I was thinking about removing Kempo and adding in one of the more Lifting oriented workouts. Also note, that I’ve replaced Yoga with Cardio-X. I like Yoga I just don’t have 1 ½ hours to complete it.

    Thanks!

Hi. I’m planning to start doing the program with my husband, but i have a question. Recently the doctor told that I have two bulging discs, and i want to know what workouts of the program can i do or cant do. Love the program! Thanks.

    Hi Mike,
The P90X is a very rigerous program that is geared and designed to to help you get into great physical shape in 90 days. There is also a nutrition guide that comes along with the program that helps keep you on the right track in order to obtain your set goals. So no you cant do P90x and eat what you want and gain the same results. It will be counter productive :)

At my last week. What next? Is P90X plus the key or do I do the Double or another Classic. I just can’t stop…Is modification something I need to look at for a couple of months…Thanks.

    Staff Reply:

That is really up to you John. You can do another round of P90X and bring it a little more to challenge yourself, or if you want to move on to new workouts, go for the P90X Plus. If you are happy with your results and you want to tone down your workout time, there is a page on results maintenance. This way you wont be working out as much, but you can keep up your great new body.

    Keep up the great work!

  83. Maegan

I just had a baby 2 and a half months ago and weigh more than I ever have in my life. I know I can commit myself to completing the 90 day workout and following the nutrition guide but what I am concerned with is the recommended dietary supplements and protein shakes. I am breastfeeding so I doubt that I should take any diet pills and am not sure about the protein drinks. How much will not being able to take these affect my results?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Meagan,

I wouldn’t take any supplements if you are breast feeding, you’re right. Just be sure to get enough protein in the foods you eat, and you should still get great results. Remember to drink plenty of water!

  84. Ty

I have finished p90x and p90x plus and i am very happy with my results. But can i alter my workout routine by taking workouts from p90x plus and p90x as long as after each three week period i take a rest week. i understand the whole thing about muscle confusion and i been thinking of ways to modify my workout schedule.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Ty,

first I would like to say congratulations on completing the P90X and the P90x plus!

You seem to have a good handle on your fitness and nutrition so it would be perfectly fine to create you own workout schedule using workouts from both programs. You will be mixing it up even more!

I have two week left of my first round of p90x Doubles. I have noticed several recommendations to start from the very beginning for round 2. My question is if it is okay to add Cardio X into phase 1 of the second round? I feel like I will be cheating myself if I drop it for a month. Thx

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Jay,

yes, I see where you are coming from. I think that’s a good idea. Starting phase 1 as is would be sort of going backwards.

  86. Russell

    Hi,

I’m currently on my 2nd week of P90X. I think it’s great and I don’t plan to quit. My question is, as much as I would like to follow the nutrition guide, it’s hard to follow exactly like it. And I know for Phase 1, you have to consume a lot of protein. For the first week of P90X, I’ve been drinking Whey Protein Shake for breakfasts and tried to eat as much as meat (or anything with protein) in the later meals. Is there a way where I can eat right for P90X without following the nutrition guide?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Russell,

try and follow the plan as best as you can. What you are doing seems fine. It is a lot of protein to take in, but you are making a solid effort by having a whey protein shake for breakfast. Maybe add some egg whites for two servings of protein, have a serving of protein for lunch, then two more for dinner. It does seem like a lot, but if you break it up in servings of 2-1-2, it wont seem as difficult.

During the exercises, you hear Tony say “do your best, and forget the rest.” This also applies to the diet. Do you best to follow it as closely as you can

Hey, I am just starting p90x. My uncle got for me p90x plus, but I dont own the normal p90x workout. Can I still divide the 5 CD’s, and still do a 90 day workout, and get the same results as I would if I had the normall p90x workout system?

  88. Katie

I have just completed the first 90 days of P90X classic. I was thinking of now doing the lean training block now. Will this slow down my progress or will I lose any of the results I worked hard for by switching to the lean phase?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Katie,

you may loose some muscle mass. You will certainly keep toning muscle, but doing so much cardio will burn a great deal of calories and you will slim down.

Just finished up p90x and looking for more. Want to do p90x plus . how soon should i start from ending and starting again? and is the plus version mixed into the p90x version? or is it a totally separate workout program?. I lke using the weights and gaining muscle that p90x gave me so i dont want to give that up. Is there a fitness schedule that can combine p90x and p90x plus?

    Much Thanks

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Ken,

you can start right away! You can either incorporate P90X plus into the P90X schedule or do it alone. Now that you have a good idea on how the program works, you can come up with your own schedule if you want to.

    -Mike

  90. Mario

Hi, I finished all 90 days of P90x and even though I am happy with the results, I don’t like how much weight I lost from my face. My cheeks are sunken in. I want to continue with the program but I don’t know what to do with the appearance of my face. What do you recommend?

  91. jay

My GF and I decided to do something about are lack of fitness last winter. We finished the P90x program 8 months ago. Summer came and we slacked off. Started drinking and parting laying about. I realized today just how outta shape I was when I decided to do abripper. What a shame. I used to do extra reps LOL! now I can’t get through the first half. What ever you do just keep pushing play! I am about to start the long road though hell again. Has any one ever slacked off to this degree? Will we see results quicker due to musle memory? Guess we will see. Wish us luck. P.S. my face is the fatest it’s ever been Mario!

Good luck Jay! I think you will have an easier time this round just because you have been there before. I know you will push yourself even more this round so you results will be great!!!

  92. sarah c

should you also do other exercises like running in addition to completing the videos? or will the videos do the job?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Sarah,

that depends on you. Lots of people do extra cardio to burn even more calories and slim down quicker. That’s actually what the doubles approach is all about, adding cardio x to the classic schedule. Go for it!

  93. donny

i just purchase the program and it was intense. I see the result right away after the 3rd day, after the pain of course. Do i have to do everything single workout inorder to get result, because i don’t have time. I’m a skinny guy about 116pounds. I just want mass over cut, because i’m pretty tone. Is it posssible do the arm, chest, back workout video instead of all the other at the same time have result?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Donny,

there is a certain schedule that you need to follow that comes with the program. If you want to add bulk, use heavier weights and do 8-10 reps. Your last two reps should be hard, so if you can do 11 reps, you need a heavier weight. Your results may vary if you omit some of the workouts, but that of course is up to you!

    -Mike

  94. RMb

Am considering getting your program, but am only wanting to loose weight and tone and strenghten not build any mass. Does your program provide exercises for that concern?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello RMb,

yes. If you main concern is weight loss, do the lean approach. The P90X program comes with a fitness guide with three different ways to do these workouts. If all you want to do it to tone up and loose weight, the lean approach is the one for you.

    -Mike

  95. jay

Not that I am an expert RMb. But in my case I stuck firm to the program for the full 90 days. Meaning I did every work out as set up by Tony and ate acording to the recomended meal plan. I did not see any mass gain. But I did steer clear from the recovery drinks and the whey protien. I lost 30 pounds and became what I called “skinny ripped”. The only changes to the plan I made was instead of beach body bars I used Cliff Bars when needed. After a work out I took a vitamin instead of a recovery drink and instead of whey protien I used Hemp protien.

  96. Todd

I’ve been doing P90X for about 4 months now… I’ve kept going past the 90 days because I’ve missed some weeks in there due to the Christmas season and all. Its been very good, I went from a size 34 waist to 29-30, which is what I was in high school. Im pretty satisfied with my arms and legs, but my abs are giving me trouble. Id like to focus on core abs and chest, what do you think of this modified workout? I have such a busy schedule that to keep doing the full workouts is impossible if I want to accomplish other goals as well.

Monday – Chest Shoulder and Tri – Chest exercises only
    Ab Ripper X
Tuesday – 1st half of Yoga, the dynamic movements
Wednesday – Chest Shoulder and Tri – Chest exercises only
    Ab Ripper X
    Thursday – Core Synergistics
Friday or Saturday – Chest Shoulder and Tri – Chest exercises only
    Ab Ripper X

Will this plus eating right give me the abs Im looking for?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Todd,

now that you have completed the 90 days, you can certainly come up with your own schedule. There is a page for maintenance in the fitness guide if you want to check that out for comparison. You actually have a pretty good idea of what you need to do.

    hello,
    2 questions
    1) i saw on the nutrition book there is 3 nutrition levels, do i have to do it to see what level i am , wow it is a lot of calories will i lose weigh
    2) when i am done with the p90x, how can i get the p90x+
is the p90x+ has the same workout as p90x because i do not want to spend more money to get the same cd as p90x, can i get only the remaining five cd, how does it work
    thank you so much

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Marie,

    1) there is a calculation in the book that will dererming your nutritional level. You are supposed to follow the plan for your level only.

    2) The P90X Plus has different workouts that will give you a greater challenge. They similar to the P90X workouts, but harder and with less instruction.

Hi, so I’m almost 31 and am progressively feeling worse and worse about how my body is changing. I have never really been a fan of working out. I’ve never been really overweight. I’ve had a steady weight for the last 15 years probably. Here and there I’ve been more cut, but lately I’ve really seen a difference in my body. I had a baby almost two years ago and have obviously seen a difference in how my body feels and looks. Is this something I can just start cold turkey without having worked out in a while?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Erin,

I would take the fitness test first. Some people can just jump right in, but I would be sure before you spend the money on this program.

  101. Ban

    HI,
I finished P90x two weeks ago, and I have two questions?

    1. if I did a second round of p90x , where do I start? Do I start literally from beginning (week 1) or do I start from week 5 , or do I just do phase III over and over again, since it is a mix of phase I and Phase II?

    2. If I wanted to make sure to maintan what I have , but if in additon anything improves I will not complain, Can I just do the last phase of P90X over and over again for the rest of my life?
The reason I am asking is because week 1 is like Phase I and Week 2 like Phase II, and so on. it is a cofusion I guess in it self, and i don’t need to try to come up with anything new.

    3. This is kind of continuation to previos question and it is for maintenance,- for the excercise where you do a seocnd repetition, can I just doe 1 repetition, and for the exercises of 1 repetition but 24 excerciese, can I split it in half and do it in two different days?

Thank you very much for your help.
    Ban

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Ban,

    1. Start from phase 1 if you want to do a full round, or start where ever you like if you want a more custom workout.

    2. For maintenance, the guide recommends that you do Yoga X at least once a week, a cardio workout (core, kenop, or plyo) once or twice a week. To maintain muscle mass, do the first round of the resistance programs. You know you usually do every exercise twice? One round would be doing each exercise once.

Doing phase 3 over and over also makes sense to me. You might have to switch it up and add some P90X Plus workouts to the mix to avoid hitting a plateau after a while of doing this.

OR you can come up with your own schedule! By the end of 90 days, you will have a better understanding of what you need to do to stay in shape or to improve further.

    3. Yes…….I kinda answered this for #2!

hello, this is jacob again. i also got a some questions about the calendar. my aunt has it and she cant explain it to me well enough to where i understand it so. so can you please explain it to me? because am lost. like i dont know what it means by classic and double and lean

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jacob,

you can use P90X to add muscle mass, yes. You just have to choose heavier weights and do 8-10 reps at the most. The last two reps should be really hard, so if you can do 11, you need something heavier. Keep in mind, you aren’t going to get body builder big, but in 90 days if you really push it, you can get some great size and definition.

    Classic, Doubles, and Lean:

These are different approaches to doing the P90X all included in the same package. Classic is the normal schedule of resistance and cardio. This approach is for those who would like to improve their overall fitness, build muscle, lose fat, and improve atletic abilities. Doubles is that same classic schedule with one cardio workout added to each resistance day to give you two workouts for those days. So you will do cardio twice as much as classic for that extra calorie burn. Lean is one workout per day as classic, but some of the resistance workouts are replaced with a cardio workout. Lean is for people who aren’t really interested in building muscle. This approach is cardio based and for those who’s main concern is weight loss.

You would need the fitness guide or calendar to know what workout to do on what day, whatever approach you choose.

Hi, I am 14 years old I was working hard on the gym but it doesn’t work out for me I’m going way too slow. So I was thinking about buying p90x because i don’t how my body looks, but I am worried about if p90x have some sort of side affects??

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Richard,

you won’t get any side effects from exercising and eating right. You are still young, but there are no age limitations for this program. Of course you have to be old enough to know what you are doing, but you will be fine!

I am a P90X grad at the age of 15. I loved the original but I’ve heard mixed reviews about P90X plus and I don’t know who to believe but I agree with the people who ave taken the plus dvds and used them in place of some of the original P90X dvds can I do the same thing????

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Derek,

taking the P90X plus workout and replacing some of the P90X workouts is the best way to go in my opinion. You keep the P90X schedule and way of doing things, but you are adding intensity and difficulty to take your results to another level.

  107. Jake

Hey im thinking of buying p90x but first i was just wondering, im 16 and 140, 6′1, im very skinny should i drink whey protein drink insted of using the diet couse i dont want to loose weight i want to gain wheight in muscle or is this just for bigger people to get skinny.

    Staff Reply:

    HI Jake.

Gaining weight can be just as tricky as losing weight. The nutrition plan really helps you lose weight, so you could omit that part, but I would still try and eat healthy foods. Whey protein can help to build muscle mass.

    Hello-
I was wondering if you could tell me what weights I will need for this video so I can prepare my home. I have 8 and 10 pound dumbbells. I am looking to get lean muscle so less weight and more reps. Do you think I need lighter ones as well? Thank!

    Trina

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Trina,

you might want to pick up some 5 pound weights definitely, and maybe some a little heavier. For some of the leg exercises, you can use heavier weights. Maybe a 15 pound should be your heaviest.

  109. Cindy

Seriously thinking of purchasing P90X. I currently work out 3-4 days a week at Curves. i am 52 years old and have some arthritis in my knees. Would like to build muscle and lose fat. Am not really satisfied with my current workout. It has become really easy for me. Am i too old to try P90X?

    Staff Reply:

No, Cindy. You are not too old, but your arthritis might give you a problem. Depending on how severe it is of course, this workout can be tough on your knees. Plyometrics, for example, is high impact. Building muscle and burning fat is what this program is all about, but can be difficult with a knee issue.

  110. Gabrielle

I am a P90X grad – it works!!! I have two children and spent my entire summer getting up at 4:30 am to workout (I am a teacher so I have about two months free)- I hated doing it by myself, but after I felt great. I am looking better than I did before my first child! Anyway I am having a hard time fitting in the workouts due to time – I have to be at work at 6:45 so its tough getting in a morning workout and having to pack up the kids & myself for school. I tired to do some in the evenings but once again it is time interval that kills me. SO is P90X plus the right thing for me? I am looking for a maintance workout that will get the job done in the least amount of time. Any ideas on this would be great! Thanks

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Gabrielle,

if it’s maintenacne you are looking for, stick with P90X. Check out page 34 of the fitness guide to see what you need to do to keep your results. The maintenance will take up less time per day, so you should definitely take a look.
