P90X: Get a Complete Ab Workout at Home

We all have an area on our midsection that needs help. For some it is the spot on your lower stomach that just doesn’t seem to harden up, or the love handles that appear where your obliques should be. For others it’s our entire abdominal region! Regardless how much work your stomach muscles need, it is a challenge to find the right moves that allow you to do a thorough ab workout at home. Gym equipment can manage to hit those spots that are missed in typical crunches, but who wants to go to the gym just for their abs? Ab Ripper X, included in Tony Horton’s revolutionary system P90X, manages to hit all of the abdominal muscles in high quality gut busting ab workout at home.

The entire P90X series pays for itself in a matter of weeks when you compare it with monthly gym membership dues. However, not only is the system a good choice economically, it also adds convenience to your fitness regime, allowing you to get a full body workout in the comfort of your home.

Many workout DVDs promise to give you rock hard abs in an easy ab workout at home, but few can deliver like Ab Ripper X. Celebrity trainer Tony Horton compiled 11 signature moves and sequenced them in a way to give you maximum results in minimum time. These 11 signature moves are no walk in the park, but paired with your commitment to health and your desire for a great beach body, they will transform your abs into a rock hard 6-pack in no time.

Getting a complete ab workout at home is not only more convenient, it’s more private! No one has to see you struggling. Only you will see yourself progress from hardly able to sit up, to ripping through the DVD. Gyms can be intimidating, filled with beautiful people whose eyes fall on you when you walk through the door. When you are committing to your health, it is not a time for self-consciousness. Being able to get a high powered ab workout in your home without setting foot in a gym is priceless.

Ab Ripper X not only gives you great looking abs, but strengthens your core from the inside. You will feel stronger, walk taller, and be more confident as you progress through the routine and the entire P90X series. No longer ashamed to take off your shirt at the pool, walking into a gym will seem like a walk in the park, but totally unnecessary.

P90X was developed to give people who don’t have time for the gym the same (or even better) opportunity at a ripped body. The ability to do your ab workouts at home, along with your entire fitness regimen is not only convenient, but empowering. You don’t need the fancy equipment and expensive membership to look this good. You only need P90X paired with the dedication to succeed.

I am doing P90x and this Abripper is by far one of the hardest. I’m sticking with it because I want to be able to do ALL of the exercises one day.

  2. Laurie

First of all I have never tried this system nor do I intend to spend that much money on something without testing it first. I have exercised all my life and I will admit that doing the same ole workout does nothing. I experienced this. I use to do the treadmill (boring and did nothing for me) I do however go back on it and do slower pace at a high incline (like mountain climbing) then 1 minute power bursts. (what a difference). What I am trying to say is yes a change is the best way but in no way do I BELIEVE that working out for 90 days will give u flat ripped abs. Never happens I need to see this for myself . Every single exercise and equipment promises all kinds of things , of course no one is going to post or advertise the exercise and say it sucks.

Money racket. Second of all who the heck has the room in there house for all this equipment.

I need what you call proof not something one reads on a blog, or something one sees on television informicals. They all promise the same thing.

Most before and after pictures are computer generated and altered so give me a break.

  3. Matt

Laurie, don’t post your wining. Don’t rip on something you haven’t tried. Yeah there are a lot of gimmicks, but this ain’t one. So put up or shut up. You are obviously unhappy with your own results or you wouldn’t take the time to wine on a fitness program site. Give it a try and post what you think after you’ve tried it for one or two days.

  4. Staff

    Hi Laurie,

We totally understand the need to be cautious about what you see advertised on TV. We all know there are bogus products out there and tons of exercise gimmicks. What you’ll find that makes P90X different is a solid foundation based on proper nutrition and intense REAL workouts that deliver results because you really have to work for it! As far as equipment is concerned, you’ll find that it’s very minimal.

A set of resistance bands and an optional P90X Chin-up Bar, and a yoga mat are about all you need in this department to get started. Plus all of these can be easily put away when not in use and don’t take up much space at all.

We understand that people want to try the program first. What we do is specifically offer a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee so that you can try the program out and get a real feel for it before you decide to keep it. We’re pretty sure you’ll be convinced in the first week that P90X is a serious program. You’ll be eating healthy and working your body like crazy! Please let us know if you have any other questions, we’re here to help!

I live in Jamaica and saw this system advertised on the cable and believe me i would love to try this system but i really cannot afford the total amount for this package. i am not sure if you can workout a payment plan for me as i would love to try this product. I REALLY NEED TO LOSE THIS WEIGHT AND I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL WORK FOR ME

I have been trying to lose weight and at the same time to tone my body. I always fantasize to have a perfect body and especially the abs, i have taken all kind of nutrional products, spent lot of hours at the gym but nothing happened. I am 6ft and weigh 200lbs. I am not sure if P90x is for me since i am dissapointed with lot of TV products that assure perfect abs and weight loss. I am an airline pilot and usually doing very long haul flights so i cannot keep up with regular exercise and follow the diet program. I am desperatley looking for help. Even my kids think i am fat and ugly. They want me to have a perfect body, so please help me.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Omer,

P90X is quite different from most of these TV gadgets and gizmos. Yes it’s a very robust and well developed system both in the exercise and nutrition departments, but the main reason that it works is that it requires a commitment and a dedication to getting the results it delivers.

Will P90X get you in the best shape of your life. I wholeheartedly believe it will, but it won’t work if you’re not prepared to make a few sacrifices.

    1) You need to make the time. The workouts are 1 hour a day 6 days a week. You’ll want to seriously consider how to integrate this into your schedule. Keep in mind the program is flexible and can even be done in a hotel room without a problem.

2.) You NEED to follow that nutrition guide. One of the biggest mistakes users make is not eating right, and not following the guide. It’s so important to get those results.

I’d like to make a recommendation for you. Based on where you are right now, and being new to exercise and fitness, you may want to start out with a program like 10 Minute Trainer. It’s specifically designed for people with busy schedules and is a very popular program. It’s less intense than P90X, however it may be a great stepping stone for you, so you can become used to getting on a workout schedule and eating right. Please see the following link for full details and videos on the program:

    http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/10-minute-trainer-products/10-minute-trainer.php

I wish you the very best and we look forward to helping you get started on the path to great health and fitness!

    -Matt

  7. Chris

I would recommend this program to anyone who really wants to commit to an extreme workout plan and get tremendously fit in the process. This is not a fake program, it really works. I bought this from a friend who said it failed miserably. It doesn’t. He failed in committing to it. At first, it was simply too difficult for me; I was sore and the diet seemed insane. I have been working out at a gym for years but I have never pushed myself to exhaustion and have never committed to a logical diet. I was stuck in the 8-12 reps category for everything. While set reps do exist in P90X, there are many routines that push you to maximum reps. For example, at first I could only do 20 push-ups but I’ve double that in 6 weeks. I have lost a ton of weight and fat and I can see my abs already. I can’t wait until the next 6 weeks are done and I can see the full result of not only this excellent workout program but my complete dedication to the system and diet. Laurie, if you ever read this, give it a try. As one gym member to another and as a person half way through the program – you won’t believe how well it works.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Chris,

We field a lot of questions and comments on our blog, and there are a lot of folks who are very skeptical of P90X, and rightfully so. There are many programs and exercise gimmicks out there that promise the world.

But, it’s people like you who have tried the program and who have stayed dedicated to it that always come back saying how effective the system is. You’re 100% right, the results you get depend on how much of a commitment you have to getting those results. P90X does deliver, but the user has to stick with it in terms of the workouts and the nutrition aspect.

I just really wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with the program, we believe in it, but it’s great for people to hear others out there who believe in it as much as we do! Good luck and keep on BRINGING IT!

    -Mike

  8. Jamie

I’ve been very interested in p90x for some time, but likes others I’m very skeptical. What if I just want to work out every other day – will this workout still give me results? Also, I’m a type 1 diabetic – will the diet and/or nutritional outline sustain me?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jamie,

I totally understand your skepticism. As consumers we’re always bombarded with products everywhere we turn. P90X isn’t one of these fade diet programs or wacky get thin gadgets, it’s a serious workout that requires dedication and hard work. There is quite a following at this point with over 2 million users.

Doing P90X every other day is OK, but you will certainly not get the same results as you would by following the program as it was designed. Which is 1 hour a day, 6 days a week. It includes a comprehensive nutrition guide that is also very flexible and could definitely accommodate special dietary needs or preferences. You’ll find it’s a lot less of a “diet” then it is a nutrition plan. For more details on the program, please see the following link. If you have any other questions, we’re here to help.

  9. dom

i am 16 i did p90x on and off in the fall but stopped for bball seaason. season is now over and im commited to the entire program. but i feel core strength is vital to basketball i was wondering if i could do the core workout every week? if so which workout should i trade for it?

    Staff Reply:

    Hey Dom,

We really try not to steer anyone off of the intended program schedule as a lot of time and energy has gone into its creation. You will definitely get some good core work several times a week with Ab Ripper X as it is.

However, if you’re looking to do Core Synergistics more often, you’ll really have to evaluate what your current strengths are and what exercises you think you can opt out of that you’d be willing to sacrifice. It’s hard for us to give you that kind of advice. Plyo is definitely a workout you’d probably like to stick to, Even Yoga X is great with improving balance. It’s tough, it will be a trade off but if you’re already doing well with upper body strength, perhaps opting out of Chest & Back will work for you?

  10. Milad

Greetings to all! I am in the middle of week three of p90x. First let me share something with all of you skeptics. P90X is an amazingly effective and REAL system. You absolutely need to stick with it and be committed to see results. That means when it gets tough, instead of taking the easy way out and saying it doesn’t work, you persist and and as Tony says “…keep pressing play!” Pretty soon you will begin to see noticeable changes in your body. This program can be repeated many times and there is enough material to keep the fittest of the fit busy for a long time. For me, the discipline to do the workouts, eat right and rest have come about as a result of the FEELING I get, every time I do the workouts. There is wisdom and logic in how the program is put together. Tony is constantly reminding everyone to listen to their own body and challenge but not hurt themselves. There is one thing however, that I felt was not really pointed out in the infomercials that deserves pointing out. This is NOT a program for the couch potato or week end warrior who decides to get into the best shape of his/her life. If you are that person, you would be wise to begin with POWER 90 first prior to financially and otherwise, committing to this program. I wish you all success in your health pursuits and salute Tony Horton and the creators of P90X for creating a valuable tool for those in pursuit of fitness and self improvement.

    Happy training to all!

  11. Denise

I dont know anything about P90x but I sure am interested, Im so tired of the same old routines you get from other videos. I am a 50yr old weighing 200lbs. I am trying my best to get back into shape and lose at least 60lbs and I hope this program can help me. Im going to try the free trial they have posted online then Ill go from there. What peak my interest? I work for a sporting goods store and a customer needed help with some of the equiptment needed for the p90x program, so of course I asked her what was the program about. Well she begain explaining and it just overwelmed me how excited and happy she is with P90x and how effective it is. So Im definately going to get on board with this one, it is a little costly for me but my health is more important.

  12. David

I am 52 and have just finished phase 2. I have now lost 15 pounds and 2 inches in my waist. I am seeing great definition in a all my muscle groups, including my abs. I have always exercised, but this program takes it to the next level. It takes a lot of dedication, but it has been fun hearing my friends tell me how much better I look. My son gave me P90X for christmas, and this is probably the best gift ever. The cost is nothing compared to your health benefits that you will achieve. Just do your best and forget the rest and Bring It every day.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi David,

We really appreciate the feedback you’re providing on the blog. It’s important for other people around your age to hear that there is no age restriction on the program and that if you want to get in great physical shape, you can do it. “Just do your best and forget the rest and Bring It every day!”

I’ll tell you the truth I’m 40 yrs old, and have been through the mill as far as weightlifting and exercise programs go. The P90X system is all that it claims to be and more. I’ve experienced muscle plateau, and the muscle confusion that P90X utilizes works wonders on this old/tired body of mine. I’m currently on my second round (4 weeks in) and people around notice the changes in your body, and your mind set. I work long hours and can’t wait to get home and get X’d. My personal feeling on P90x are it betters your body, mind, and self image…but you have to work at it….and it is worth the work…….TRY IT…STICK WITH IT..YOU’LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!! I was worried that this system was a joke (from TV) and was I wrong…Now half the guys at work are doing the program and loving it…Thanks TONY!

  14. Mike D.

Im in the middle of week 3 of P90x. Wow, I can tell this is going to work. My issue, is time I have to work out. The only time I have to do this program is in the morning. I Make breakfast, then have to wait 1 hour to let the food settle before working out. thats 2.5 hours when all said and done. Is there anything I can eat/drink as soon as I get up without the 1 hour wait. At this point I am digging into my sleep to make this happen and its cathing up with me. 6am wake up// School at 8am// Work at 3pm home in bed 1230pm. The extra Hr of sleep would be great.

  15. Kenneth

My wife and I have started P90X classic, we are on our second week. She has some questions-
1- She feels that her abs are growing on the Ab Ripper X program- her core is strong- lost of dancing, yoga and Pilates in the past. Could this program increase ab size? I mention sucking the belly button to the spine and she say she is….thoughts?
2- Will the classic program bulk her up too much? She is currently using 2 – 5 lb dumbbells and a home gym rail system set low for the pull-ups but still gainign weight….thoughts?

    Thanks for the advice!

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Kenneth,

I would suggest that your wife start P90X Lean. P90X Lean is an alternative program to P90X classic. It’s for those who want a more cardio-based and slightly less intensive program. It’s focus, as per the name, is on developing lean body mass. It is not a separate product, it’s a different route you can take with P90X. These approaches are outlined in the fitness guide that is included with your P90X.

The reason why your wife may be experiencing “growing” abs is because she may be bulking up with the program. The Lean program will keep her lean in the process of getting her in shape. Overall, if you are looking for a program that will keep her weight down and still give her that muscle definition and that toned look, then P90X Lean is the best way to go.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    -Nate

  16. Hassan

Hey Im 13 I did the P90X first week borrowing a friends DVD so now I have ordered my own set. I just wanted to know I am under weight but am extremely fit and did the first week easily. Will this program work for skinny teens.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Hassan,

The system was not designed solely as a weight loss program. In fact, its main goal is to get you into great shape, build muscle, and increase your overall stamina and agility. The great thing about P90X is that the nutrition aspect of the program is very flexible.

The P90X diet provides you with the right combination of foods so that your body has the energy it needs during the program. It’s broken down into 3 phases.

While P90X is a 90 day workout you may decide to alter your choice and timing of the phases for what works best for you. In your case you may opt to decrease the time you spend in Phase 1: Fat Shredder, or you may decide to skip this phase all together, and move right into Phase 2. We have had several individuals in a similar situation as yours and bypassing Phase 1 was the right choice for them.

At this point, there is quite a following and a lot of great success stories from the P90X community out there. The reason for it’s success is because the system is not only effective, but flexible as well. If you stay dedicated you will definitely get the results you’re looking for. We hope this helps shed some more light on the program, if you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at any time!

    -Russell

  17. Kevin Kelley

I would like to try the program but my time is very limited due to work, school and my son. How much time would i need to invest to start to feel better and to see results. Thanks For Your Time, Kevin Kelley

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Kevin Kelley,

You are going to need, up to 1 hour a day for 6 days a week. Morning, noon or night will do, you just have to be consistent. If you are consistent with the program, you should start to see results within the first couple of weeks.

    Hope this helps.

P90x is great i was deployed in iraq for 14 months… one of my soldiers did p90x for 2 weeks and lost 18 pounds… we have had officers go from doing 50 push up to 80 plus in 2 minutes… It seems like a great program and the wife and i will be starting on monday

  20. bridget

i want to use this product. i am not a large person and do not wish to loose weight just to tone my abs and loose my small love handels. which program should i by for my needs, and is the same time required?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Bridget,

Toning your ab muscles requires not only crunches but you need to burn that belly fat off as well. If you don’t want to get into anything too time consuming or intense, try Shaun T’s hip hop abs. This program is for your abs, but you will be getting a great cardio workout in as well. None of the ab exercises are on the floor, which is great, and it’s fun! Your basically dancing around working your abs. What more could you ask for?

The P90X is great if you want a total body transformation. This program takes a little more time and effort.

    -Erin

  21. dom

can i do ab ripper x before and after my monday wednesday and friday workouts.. ab ripper only once is starting to get to easy :)

  22. ramtin

hi i was wondering how much extra cardio i can do while doing p90x?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Ramtin,

As much as you can handle I suppose! Don’t overdo it. You want to make sure you are making up for the energy loss. You might need to make an adjustment with the nutrition plan. The daily servings gives you enough energy for your daily activities along with the P90X. It was not designed to energize you for extra workouts.

    -Erin

  23. Dom

Cano do ab ripper before and after my resistance workouts… It’s starting to get a little to easy dping it just once.. If so can I skip warmups since I did abs first?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Dom,

You shouldn’t skip warm up. That is pretty important. You want to make sure your muscles and joints are ready for the workouts. If you do abs before your main workout, do it after the warm-up. Abs shouldn’t be done everyday, so make sure you are giving your belly a break!

    -Erin

  24. Chanel

Hello, I was reading the previous posts and I nothiced the break down of the weeks and what will take place during those weeks. However, and this may sound foolish to even ask, but does any part of this whole workout tone the upper inner thighs as well as the butt area? I know that legs in general was stated but just making sure the things and buns was covered to :D Thank yuo for your time

  25. melinda

I’m a 47 yrs young I have dropped 30 lbs over a year great right? Not I have been working out at the gym 3x a week 2 days of yoga and I am so flabby everywhere.I have been looking at this program,I’m needing much help.If you can tell me that if I follow this program it will take care of this.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Melinda,

The P90X can help you get out of that slump. It’s all about mixing it up and confusing your muscles, which allows them to grow. Perhaps you body is too used to your routine. This program will fix that. Fat loss has a lot to do with your diet. The nutrition plan included will help you eat in a way that is most conducive to fat loss and muscle gain. This does not mean that you will get bulky. You have options in the program that will allow you to get lean muscle tone. If you start this program, follow the workout schedule, and eat right, you will start to notice a difference.

    -Erin

  26. Sheena Hunt

I’m strongly thinking about your program because I have heard alot of good things about it. But all of the comments are about losing weight. I’m am 5′2 and 116 lbs and do not wish to lose weight, but I am interested in staying toned and having nice abs. Also, I was wondering if all of the equipment that is used in the dvd’s available for purchase or do you have to go to the gym for the equipment? Thank you.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Sheena,

This program can be adjusted if you are not interested in loosing weight. Your weight my fluctuate throughout the course of the P90X due to fat loss and muscle gain, but in the end, I think you will be more concerned about the visual changes your body will show. The P90X can be a weight loss program, a muscle toning program, or both. It’s all about how you use the program. The nutrition guide can be adjusted to cut fat loss if thats what you want. Working out, you can set your own weights and reps. Heavier weights and fewer reps=larger muscles. Lighter weights and more reps=lean muscle. The P90X is a versatile program that can help many different people reach different goals.

We do have all of the equipment recommended for this program. Check it out:

    Hi,

I am 57kg and 5′61/2 in height. I want to gain muscle and bulk since I am skinny. Do you think I should skip some cardio exercises and focus more on the resistance exercises? or do cardio every other week? I can only workout on weekdays so that gives me 5 days a week at most. I am only in my 1st week. Could you suggest other schedule or format for me to achieve my goal of bulk and muscle?

Moreover, I have protein powders but don’t exactly know when and how much to use it.

Any help would gladly be appreciated.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jake,

Heavier weights, 8-10 reps = bulkier muscles

Lighter weights, 12-15 reps = lean muscles

If you only have 5 days to work out, this is not so bad. Day 7 is an optional stretch or rest day anyway. So if day 6 is totally impossible, I would omit one of the cardio workouts. Get all your weight training in and don’t skip the Yoga! Plyo is important too!

    -Mike

    Staff Reply:

    Hi again,

about the protein powder, it’s great for an after workout drink or an in between meal snack. One serving is good enough, check out the label for info on that.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Bobbie,

I’m not sure if the P90X would be right for you. It’s actually not recommended for people with neck, back, or knee problems. This program is intense, so you may want to consult your doctor first.

Hi! Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. One last question, What happens if I skip the yoga instead? Would it affect my results? Because I don’t really feel that I am gaining bulk in doing yoga.

And also, during the recovery week, it has lots of yoga, could you suggest some other routine for it?

Thanks a lot and more power to P90x! It’s the coolest invention in the world.

Yoga is an important core routine. This workout give you strength and flexibility as well. Take a look at what Tony has to say about yoga:

Hey my name is Ryan and im 16 years old but im really skinny and im trying to gain some weight so i can burn it off with P90X ive been doing P90X for 2 weeks and ive gotten results but i need fat to burn so i can get ripped so can u give me some advice on how to gain weight i want to gain at least 20 pounds or more. Oh and i weigh about 127 lbs and im 5′ 7 Please help me im tired of looking like STICK BOY

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Ryan,

Using heavier weights and doing 8-10 reps will help to bulk up you muscles. Also, more protein can help. If you also want to burn fat, adding more carbs to your diet may not be the best choice. Gaining weight can be as hard as loosing weight for some. You might need to make little adjustments along the way. Adding weight and adjusting your diet.

Hey my name is Richard and im 16. Well ive been trying to get my abs since i was like 12 years old but i just dont know why i cant. So since i dont have the money to get the P90X and dont want my mom to spend all that money, my uncle got the P90X and let me borrow the ab ripper. I was wondering if it was ok to use just that instead of the whole 12 CD and stll get a good worout or if it was dangerous because i havnt done the other 11 CD.

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Richard,

If an abdominal workout is all you are interested in, it’s not dangerous at all. It wouldn’t be a full body workout, but great for your abs. Make sure you aren’t doing Ab Ripper X everyday. You muscles need time to repair.

  33. Jordan

Hi my name is jordan and im 15 and on the skinny side but fit. i want to get more mass and look and be bulkier. But currently i am doing alot and need to know which nutrition is right for me. PE in school is basicly running all the time and after school i have to ride my bike home everyday uphill. i dont want to do all these workouts and look like a twig. should i be doing all the workouts or skipping some. And should i completely skip the fat shredder like others. I breezed by the first 2 weeks without many problems in maintaining form. Id really appritiate any help i could get here

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Jordan,

you do seem to be doing a lot of cardio every day. Your burning a lot of calories, so yes, I would skip the fat shredder phase all together. Maybe even go to phase 3 right from the start. I would do a test week with phase 2 first. Bulking up is all about choosing the correct weights. You should choose heavier weights and do 8-10 reps. The last two reps should be really hard, so if you can do 10 easily or even do 11, you need something heavier.

Be careful when you calculate your nutritional level. Be sure to take in account your PE running and your daily bike ride. This will allow you to get the right amount of calories you need for energy for all of your workouts. You can do them all, you just need to manage your calories right if you don’t want to loose any more weight.

Hello. I have heard alot of great things about your program. I just had a baby so i really slacked on the exercising for the 9 mnths, I gained about 60-70 pds. Im very commited to losing the extra weight. Would p90x help me lose the tummy fat and tone up?! Thanks.

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Clarice,

if you follow the program, fitness and nutrition, you will loose weight, get toned and stronger. Belly fat is tricky, but I have found that staying away from “white” carbs and limiting even whole wheat carbs to one serving per day. Sugar and soda also have a huge impact on belly fat. This program has a killer ab workout that will put your abdominal muscles on fire. It’s about 339 reps, but wow! I have done Ab Ripper for a while now and every time I do it I always feel the burn. It’s a really great ab workout.

  36. Laura

Hello, I am in the process of doing P90X. I am a runner and cannot believe how much faster my times are since incorporating this program. Before P90X I tried to stay modivated to do weights and core work to help improve my overall running times but always failed. This program I have seen results! I skip Cardio X, instead I continue with my passion of running. I still have a belly, but could be related to having three sections. Do you have any ideas on how to get rid of the bulge?
    Thankyou

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Laura,

did you mean C-Sections? I think you just forgot the C! Anyway, loosing belly fat is probably the hardest. It seems like your midsection is where it all goes! Tightening you tummy can be tricky, especially if you have had surgery on it. Here are some tips that might help:

    FOLLOW THE NUTRITION PLAN!

    1. Try to avoid refined sugar products and most of all SODA! Drink water, try not to put sugar in your coffee, stay away from juice.
    2. “White” carbs have been blamed for belly fat in recent studies, so try to go for whole grain pastas and brown rice.
    3. Even if you only eat whole grains (no white carbs), limit them. One or two servings a day. 1 cup of brown pasta or rice is 1 serving. Two slices of whole wheat bread is also 1 serving. The fat shredder phase of the nutrition plan actually calls for only 1 serving.
-carbs are burned as energy when you work out. When you eat more than you need for energy, it turns into fat that most of the time get reserved in your midsection. Burn more than you consume and your body will start to take energy from already stored fat.
    4. Don’t forget about your fat burning cardio. You run so I think you have that covered!

Just working our or just dieting may not do the trick. You need both to really make a change.

Wow , so many opinions. I really would love to try this system. I have been working out with other videos and I agree that you keep doing one thing over and over again, it sure gets boring and you give up, which is what I am about to do. But I keep pushing. I also would love to try this but as for a lot on here, don’t have the money. And the 30 day doesn’t cut either for me. Really tough times here. But I keep coming to this site wishing, someday, I will get this package…….someday….. :)

And I forgot, I , too, had 2 c-section from my navel down and plus a Hysterectomy (smile)..Is it too late to get that tight Ab !!??

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Lisa,

I would first talk to your physician to make sure it’s ok to workout. It can take over a year for a full recovery. As long as it’s ok for you to workout and your abdominals are in good condition, it’s not too late to try and shrink your belly.

I am a 14 year old boy who is about 5′ 5′ and 95 pounds. I got this program as a present and would love to get stronger. I do not need to drop weight and i am in good shape, but I want to build muscle. Will this program work for me? If so, what should I focus on with it?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Shawn,

We get this question a lot on this blog. Gaining weight or bulking muscles can sometimes be just as hard as loosing weight. What other activities do you do at school? Are you involved in a sport? I am asking because if you are doing a lot of cardio type exercise, that will cause you to loose weight on top of the P90X workouts. If you do play a sport, I would omit the cardio workouts from the P90X. This way you wont be getting any extra cardio.

If you want to add bulk or definition, go for heavier weights and do 8-10 reps. The last two reps should be really hard. If you can do 11, you need something heavier. Focus on really working hard with the resistance workout.

You might also want to skip the fat shredder phase of the nutrition plan. This is where most people really get their fat burning going. Make sure you calculate your nutritional level correctly, adding any outside activities, and try starting with phase 2.

I just purchased the P90X program and have a question. I work 10 hour days so my work outs will most likely be in the evenings.
What should my timing be for meals and working out?

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Mark,

this might be tough with your work schedule, but try to eat every two to three hours and in smaller portions. This might be difficult especially if you are working a job where you are doing physical labor (just guessing by the 10 hour day, sorry if I’m wrong!) and need energy. Protein bars are great for in between snacks if you can carry a couple in you pocket or leave some at your work station. No matter when you work out (when ever you have 1-1.5 hours), eating smaller more frequent meals will speed up your metabolism and help you to burn fat which will allow any muscle definition to show.

  42. Steve

heyy, i just turned 16 years old and i am 6 feet tall weighing 165lbs. I am pretty muscular but i cant seem to get the 6 pack that i have always wanted. I work out at least 6 times a week at the gym and i do multiple ab exercises but none seem to show much results. i have a little belly fat that i would like to loose as well. I have just bought the ab ripper x on ebay because i wouldnt be able to afford all 13 disks at one time and i was wondering how many times a week should i complete the ab ripper x and what other exercises should i be doing with it to get the 6 pack that i want. would it be bad to do it every day? please help

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Steve,

getting a six pack can be difficult. There are several things you should do:

    1. Eat right. I know you don’t have the nutrition plan, but here is an idea of what you should be eating:

protein – 5 servings (3 oz of lean meat is about 1 serving)
    dairy – 2 servings
    fruit – 1 serving
    vegetables – 2 servings (1 cup cooked, 2 fresh)
CARBS – 1 SERVING!! Complex only (brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bread- 1 cup of rice or pasta, two slices of bread is 1 serving)
    fats – 1
    snacks – 2

You should be eating smaller portions every two to three hours to speed up your metabolism. This is what you would eat for the first phase of this program. Some of the daily servings can be increased (protein can be decreased) if you need extra energy.

    2. Don’t skimp on the cardio! Cardio burns calories and fat that could be covering your abdominal area.

    3. Working large muscle groups such as your legs and back help greatly to reduce body fat percentage. Building muscle burns fat. Chin-ups, push-ups, lunges, squats.

    3. Ab Ripper X should be done every other day to allow for muscle recovery.

    Good luck!!

So I borrowed my friend’s copy of P90X to see if it is for me. It really seems to be working and I am definitely feeling the burn. Thinking about purchasing it for myself. I do have a question however, concerning the Ab ripper X, is it necessary to do it right after the first work out on the list. I know that I am just starting, but I am so wore out that I am not really able to do the majority of the routines. Is it possible to do the abripperx in the morning, and the other work out in the evening, or vice versa?

    Staff Reply:

    Hello Jason,

ideally, it would be better to do Ab Ripper right after your first workout because your body should be in “burn” mode. If you can’t at first, by all means do it later. It is better to do what you can when you can to make this program work for you, rather than quit because it’s too difficult.

  44. David

I have been working out bascially all my life. In high school I was in the best shape of my life and lifting the most in my life. I have heard from many, this is a killer program. The thing I am wondering is I have just come off a weight gainer program to give more size and strenght. If I want to use this program, would I stick to the diet a bodybuilder would or use your nutritional guidelines? I don’t want to lose a lot of size and strenght, but definitely need to cut up. Anybody out there in my shoes?

    Staff Reply:

Hey David, I’m not exactly in the same boat as you, but I can tell you that the nutrition plan does help you to lose weight. There are three different phases, so you might want to look them all over to see if any of them compare to your diet.

    “HELP ME” I work 11hrs a day 8 to 7pm mon to fri can this work for me. i’m 5′ft 10″ 169pd will i get a 6pack in 90 days

ps. what time is best for my workout, morning or after work. HELP!

    Staff Reply:

    Hi Pat,

I would workout in the morning. Otherwise you might be too tired at the end of the day and wont want to do it. As far as the 6 pack goes, you can get one depending on how much body fat you have to start. If you have a high body fat percentage, you might not see a 6 pack at the end of 90 days.
