P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #1 “Don’t eat junk food”
It’s really as simple as that. They call it junk food for a reason, it really is junk. You don’t want this stuff going into your body! Cookies, cakes, candy and processed meats all have to go. If you’re going to take the program seriously you need to eliminate this stuff from your daily diet all together.
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #2 “Don’t try to be a hero”
You’re getting ready to do an exercise, Tony asks you to set a goal, you say “25 reps” when in all reality you know that last week you could only do 8. It’s very important to push yourself, but you need to be realistic, other wise you set yourself up for failure.
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #3 “Don’t beat yourself up”
Likewise if you set a reasonable goal and happened to fall just short, don’t beat yourself up about it. You are involved in this program to allow yourself to grow and gradually meet your fitness goals, don’t worry you’ll get there. One of the most famous Tony Horton mantras is “Do your best, and forget the rest!”
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #4 “Don’t skip your workouts”
No one said P90X was going to be easy! It’s important to make sure that you make time for your new workout routine. The program requires a real commitment. There may be times when you’re tired from the daily grind, there may be engagements you must attend, so be sure to designate a time that works for your lifestyle. Skipping one makes it easy to skip another. Remember you’re doing this for you! Make it a point to do your scheduled workouts each and every day!
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #5 “Don’t starve yourself”
Withholding food isn’t going to help you! Eating next to nothing isn’t going to work! Starving yourself is NOT effective! Ok, I think we drilled that point home. You’re body needs fuel to operate and not eating is counter productive. As Tony so wisely says “Your body doesn’t run on exercise. It runs on the food you put in your mouth.
If you want the results that P90X can provide you need to have the energy to “Bring It” during your workouts.
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #6 “Don’t compromise your form”
You’ll learn the right and wrong ways to perform each P90X exercise. Proper form is extremely important! Never compromise form just to finish a set or to pump out a few sloppy reps. When the muscles you are working give out, it’s time to stop, don’t try to engage other muscles just to finish. Check your form and workout in a way that is kind to your structure. This will keep you healthy while you get strong.
P90X Extreme Home Fitness Don’t #7 “Don’t skip warm up”
There are those that feel like warm up isn’t important or seems like a waste of time. This couldn’t be further from the truth. NEVER skip warm up! Your body should feel limber and you should be breaking a light sweat before you dive into any full-out exercising.
Stay tuned for more important P90X DON’TS…

I will i get the same results at the end of the 90 days if i miss 1 day a week just because of something else that happens?
Hi Adam,
Results do vary from person to person and they also can vary by the amount of effort you put into your workout. If you miss one day per week, the calories that could have potentially have been lost or the muscles that could have potentially been built, could add up at the end of 90 days. Although, depending on what workout you are skipping, there might not be a huge difference at all. Of course, doing P90X 5 days a week is better than not doing it at all.

Hi I am about to start P90X and P90X+. I want to know for future reference after I finish the first 90 days, how to integrate the two so I can get really lean, cut with a good amount of muscle definition. Out of Classic, Doubles, and Lean which routine would be best to follow if I want to gain more muscle mass (biceps, triceps, forearms, pectoralis, abs) and also which will help me gain the most definition?
Hello Dominic,
if your main focus is to build muscle, stick with the classic approach. Remember to use heavier weights and do 8-10 reps. If you can do 11 reps without failure, you weight is not heavy enough.
If and when you start the P90X Plus, you can certainly integrate the workouts into your P90X routine. Or you can do another round of the P90X. There is also a section in the P90X Fitness Guide that explains how to maintain your results without working out 6 days a week. By the end of 90 days, you will have a good understanding of your fitness and you will know what you need to do to make that next step.

I am overweight and would like to lose weight then tone up…is this program for me? I don’t want to just start working out and toning up, because I want to lose weight before I tone. Should I try something else to really lose weight, and then start P90X to tone? Which way would be the best in order for me to achieve weight loss then toning.
Hello Ashley,
I would first take the P90X fitness test:
http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/pdf/p90x-fit-test.pdf
If you can pass this test, you are ready for the P90X. If not, I would start with it’s precursor, Power 90.
If you are able to start the P90X, this program will certainly help you loose weight as well as tone up. The way the program and diet plan is designed, you will initially burn fat. Then you will begin to build muscle tone and increase stamina and athletic ability. There is no question that the workouts alone will tone muscle, but if you really want to burn fat and loose weight, you really need to eat the right foods in the right amounts. Take it from someone who has done the P90X both ways. With the diet, and without. You will loose more weight following the diet plan.

I am wondering if any of your staff have any experience or research on the effects of the recovery drink on a person with an inactive thyroid.
It has been diagnosed by a doctor and I have been prescribed Levothyroxin. I am always cautious when it comes to taking anything other than my prescribed meds.
If benefits have been shown, is there anyway a person could get a 3-5 day trial supply prior to purchasing a full 30 day supply?
Any expert advise here would be appreciated.

Hi. I am about to begin my 5th week of p90x lean and I love it! However, I have not lost any weight. I thought this might be because I am gaining muscle instead ( I can see a difference when I look in the mirror), but I am beginning to get worried. Should I be concerned? Should I do Phase 1 again or continue on to Phase 2? Please help!! Thanks.
Hi Jen,
I would keep going, absolutely. You are most likely gaining muscle and since it weighs more than fat, it may seem like you aren’t making any progress when you are. Continue on to phase 2.
Do you have a body fat tester? This will help measure your body fat only, so unlike the scale, you wont be measuring any muscle along with it.

I recently lost 70 lbs.I have been takeing whey protien and a couple of vitamins. I was looking at your special package and was wondering do i need the recovery formula.
Hi Lionel,
if you feel you need some muscle recovery and your whey protein isn’t doing the trick. Whey protein and the recovery formula are similar, but the whey doesn’t have those few ingredients to help sore muscles. If you have been working out and aren’t really getting sore anymore, I would keep using your whey protein.
The recovery is 100% necessary for those who are just starting the program that have not been working out because soreness for them in inevitable!

I am 58 years old, and in good health , I am not over weight but way out of shape, I have not touch my toes in over 15 yrs. I noticed the majority of your clients are 40yrs and under . What kind of results can I realistically expect, if I order the p90x
Thanks
Bill /never been a testimonial
Hi Bill,
If you can get through this program and you can follow the nutrition plan, you can expect to see weight loss, muscle gain, improved overall fitness and athletic ability. Age doesn’t matter with this program as long as you can handle the workouts. Take the fitness test to see if you are up to it. If not, start with a less intense program, Power 90. This program has a lot of the same ideas, but it’s not as tough as the P90X. Great for beginners.

I was going to order p90x so i went to the link that shows the p90x equipment among other things. I was wondering if it would or wouldn’t be a good idea to take a multiple of the products listed. Say the herbal immune, Core Omega 3 and such. I don’t want to order something then find out i won’t be able to use them. And i smoke, well going to quit when i order P90x, so that could be another health factor on those suplements. Any advice?

i forgot to mention one, the Slimming Formula. Plus the things that are already lsited as given in the nutrition plan.

I’m thinking of starting the P90x workout series. I’m 6′ and 290lbs. Its been a while since I have hit the gym. I did the fitness test and got through it all except for the pull ups. Do you think it would still be ok to start the P90x workouts?
Hey Matthew,
the test says that it’s OK if you can do any pull-ups. They are tough and come with time. You can try using a chair at first to help yourself up, or you can get the resistance bands and the door attachment upgrade kit. The bands will give you the same motions, but just not as much resistance.
Go for it!

I’ve been reading most of the comments about substituting one exercise for another, but if i replace yoga and stretch/rest days and do cardio x, kenpo x, etc. instead, i should be getting better results right? I’m only asking since i’d rather do more on those days than just improve flexibilty.
Hello Paul,
you will be getting additional calorie burn, so you might get better or faster results, yes. P90X is a tough program and you might want to keep those days to rest or stretch. After that first couple of days, your body will be sore and tight. Yoga might come as a relief! We just don’t want to to get over worked and hurt yourself. Of course you are free to change your workouts around a bit, just be sure to get in some rest and stretch time at some point!

I have a question and i’ve been looking for the answers for a very long time now. I want to know how i can find out how many calories i burn per workout for example when i do core syner i have been looking everywhere and have no answer can someone please help me i would love to know. Thanky you
Hello Crystal,
there is no absolute number out there. A person just going through the motions wont burn as many calories as someone else that is going at the workout full throttle. On average, each P90X workout burns about 600 calories.

Hi. I’m currently having a debate with a friend of mine about which version of the P90x would be best for me to complete. I’m a former college basketball player, 3 years removed, I’m 6′ and 215 lbs. My playing weight was 180-185 lbs, but for summer and maximum abs and definition I’d get down to 175. After 3 years of working 15 hour days, obviously I’ve put on a bunch of weight.
My question is, and this is where the debate is, I’ve always maintained a naturally muscular physique and my main goal is losing weight so that the muscles that are still there, will show again. He says I’d be best to do the Classic, but my concern is I don’t want to turn fat to muscle, therefore keeping my current weight and size, rather I wan’t to lose all the extra fat I’ve gained and keep my strength and my former physique as a basketball player. I think the lean program might do that best. What do you think for this type of situation? Obviously, more muscle definition would be great, but I don’t need to bulk up–but rather slim down and tighten up. I hope this question makes sense. Thanks for your help and I really enjoy the program.
Hello Frank,
you have to take into consideration that your previous physique might not be the same under there!! I think for men, especailly former athletes, the best way to go is with the classic approach. You will lose fat with both approaches, but in my opinion the addition of muscle mass will help you burn more and become more defined.
Go with Classic.

Hello Lorena,
there is really no age restriction. You just need to be healthy, able-bodied, and injury free. Take the fitness test to see if you can handle the workouts. If not, I would try the Power 90 or Power Half Hour.

Hi P90X Staff,
I am 6’0” and 160 lbs. I am on Week 2, 2 days away from Week 3 on P90X. I have been following the nutrition plan exactly, but haven’t lost any weight yet. Does it take longer for women to experience results? Thanks!
Hello Meredith,
results and how quickly you get them can vary from person to person. Keep doing what you are doing and you will start too see the numbers on the scale drop. You could be building muscle, which weighs more than fat, which can throw the scale off a bit. In general, when it comes to working out and getting into shape, I personally think it is easier for men. Just because the level of testosterone in our bodies helps us to build muscle quicker and muscle burns fat.
Don’t give up!!

I’m about to start P90X Classic. What exactly should I be using the calendar tracker for? I see a “yes/no” for diet, and then a line in each space but don’t know what else to use it form.
Should I track reps or exercises or what? Because I believe the book already has ample space for tracking purposes as does the worksheet. Please help. Thanks.
Hey Bobby,
I like to write the name of the exercise for the day in the box so I have a quick reference. This way I don’t have to look through the book everyday. The Y/N is if you stuck to your diet that day. Just to keep track of how many days you were on top of things, and how many you might have slipped a little bit! You can use the calendar to add little notes if you like, about your day, or anything that you would want to be able to see with just a glance. Keep track of reps and weights on your worksheets. That would be too much to add to your calendar in that little space!

im turning eighteen and im getting p 90 for my birthday and i know me and my parents wont be able to afford to follow the nutrition guide, what should i do and how much will my results vary?
Hey Michael,
keep things simple. Use the portions approach to find the foods you and your family already eat. You might need to make a few adjustments, form white pasta for example to whole wheat pasta, but you can still cook your everyday meals this way.

Hey I’m 16 and I weigh 175 (I know sad) but i had started p90x lean version and was on day 4 but I just want to do classic instead but what if I don’t have any supplements will I still get the 6 pack look
Hey Rudy,
getting a six pack can be difficult and doesn’t rely completely on supplements. To see a six pack, you need to reduce your body fat a great deal, all while building up you abdominal muscles. This will take fat burning cardio and resistance training, along with a diet balanced specifically to help you make the most of your 90 days. Supplements can help by boosting energy and giving you extra protein you need to build up muscle.
Your results are only as great as the effort you put in to this program. Give 100%, follow the workout schedule, follow the diet and you could be on your way to a six pack.

I have told her to just make sure she listens to her body and that she doesn’t have to go at the pace of those on the dvd but evenstill are there any testimonials out there with anyone her age who are p90xers thank you

as long as she is healthy and free of injury, there is really no age limit. Just to be sure, she might want to consult a doctor first.

Hi
My husband recently purchased the P90x. At first I thought what a waste of money! We have a gym membership, a fitness trainer available to us, a swimmining pool in our yard and a beautiful coastline to jog on. Why do we need this?
I will tell you I have answered that question. I am so hooked on your Kempo, core, and yoga x. I know it is so hard to get up to go to all these places I mentioned at times throughout our busy week. Just the mere thought of getting dressed brushing your hair and looking presentable to out into the world is a tiring thought at times working nights. So this system is working out perfect. I guess you can never have to much exercising options.
We also have a two year old and the gym has specific hours for daycare so I have no excuses any longer for not working out. I love that because ultimately we do want feel our best and exercising is the only option to achieving this for us. It has encourage our entire household to eat healthier as a family. Seeing Mom and Dad working out is a positive thing to our kids. Being a sufferer of neckpain and backpain for the past five years I have learned to listen to my body. Its easy to agitate my symptoms of sciatica and neck pain with certain exercises so i throw in my own version of maybe a jumping jack. Key to not agitating is stretching stretching stretching before and after. Most people say they do but i watch them walk right out of the gym from an intense workout. I can say I was one of them five minutes do not count people. Not anymore. I try to jog thing
Thanks again P90x…..
Thanks P90x

Hello-
I am on my third week of the P90x lean program. I also have been following the portion approach to a T for the diet plan. I measure everything out and eat every aspect I am supposed to. The first week I lost about 5 pounds, but since then I have not lost any weight. My boyfriend and I have also been incorporating some additional workouts. I can get through the workouts with a little more ease, but I am just not seeing the weight results. I am 5’6″ 178 lbs. I know I have weight to lose, that part is obvious, but I am not seeing those results. Could this be happening because I am not eating enough? I logged the calories for all my food (again eating all the portions laid out for me in the diet plan) and it says I am only reaching around 1300 calories daily, when I should be eating 1800. If I should be eating more, how do I up the calorie intake without upping the fat, portions, etc. so that I stick with the portion approach. I do love the workouts I am just getting a little frustrated. Thanks! -Libby
Hi Libby,
it could be that you are starting to develop muscle which can offset any fat loss on the scale. I think eating 5 times per day is more important when it comes to speeding up your metabolism than trying to eat more than what you are comfortable with. Keep following the plan as closely as you can, but don’t feel like you have to stuff yourself, stick with the workouts and you will continue to lose weight and see a difference as well.

Hey P90X staff,
I have a very busy schedule, and have found myself having to skip a day here or there. When I get back to my workout, I just go back to the point that I missed before (so my 7-day schedule looks like 9 days sometimes). Obviously, continuing this trend my 90 day workout will be something like 110-120 days. Is this okay? Will I achieve the same results or is the max effect really upon working out on top of slightly tired muscle groups that overlap?
Also, what happens when I reach the end of the 90-day period? Will I be able to hold on to the same results if I scale back my workouts to this routine, but spread over 2 weeks instead of 1? How often do I need to continue this routine (assuming maintaining a great diet) to keep the body I’ve created?
Thanks,
Jordan
Hi Jordan,
a missed day here and there shouldn’t hurt your results. As long as it’s only a few. After 90 days, you can scale your workouts back, the resistance by half, and cardio3 times per week. The guide actually has a section on how to maintain your results.

I am 52 yrs old and as limber as a 2×4 but I got the P90X program. I’ve worked out in the gym now for the last 3 yrs and thought I was in pretty good shape (strength wise) anyway, but I find it hard to do the (un-muscle building) routines, like I said, I’m as limber as a 2×4. But I can’t quit! At 52, can I truely realisticaly expect to get the results that younger men get? And my next question is, can I expect to get limber as a noodle (figurative speeking)? I wonder is this may take me much longer than the 90 days, is this okay?
Thank you
Hey John. It’s ok if it takes you more than 90 days to get into shape and feel better. There is no age limit for P90X, but you do have to understand that a 20 year old might have a little bit of an advantage in MOST cases, but you can still get great results. I always say, your results are only as great as the effort you put into your workouts. This program will help your flexibility and range of movement. The key is to take it slow and modify exercises when you need to.

I have low ceilings at my house and worry that I won’t get the full workout by not being able to do the plyometrics. Is there a substitution in the workout plan to help me out?
Hello Brian,
is there a place outside or at a gym you could use? As long as you have the fitness guide and you know how to do each exercise, you don’t have to do it in front of the TV. Of course I would watch the DVD to make sure you get the rhythm down and the timing in between each exercise. You need to keep your heart rate up and keep it moving!!
If it isn’t possible to find another place to do Plyometrics, you might just want to go for a run!

Hello Kenny,
belly fat is tough to get rid of. You have to be sure to follow the nutrition plan so you aren’t getting too many carbs. Unused carbohydrates are stored as fat in areas like the belly.

I’ve begun my journey with P90X. I am on week 3, and do not consider myself off to a great start. I havn’t lost any weight on the scale but I have been eating healthier, and look slimmer in the mirror. Today was Legs and Back. I did the first have, but out of frustration I turned it off. I don’t know why but I don’t have the motevation this week that I’ve had before. What changes need to occur? I really want to finish the program, but its adding too much stress to my day.
Hello Derek,
you have to find a way to make this program fun for you and not a hassle. I can understand that you are not feeling very motivated. You might have just had a bad day and couldn’t finish. Is there someone who can work out with you? Maybe you can find a P90X blogger to follow along with and chat with to help keep yourself on track.
Be sure to get enough sleep and make sure you are eating healthy foods. This will make you feel better and improve your overall mood. Then you might have a better start to your workouts which will keep you in it to the finish.

Hello Kelly,
heavier people can get great results from this program. If you can keep up with the workouts and follow the Nutrition Plan, which is just as important, you can bring down your body fat percentage by a lot.

My roommate has p90x and has been getting good results. Mainly to satisfy curiousity, I’ve also been joining the workouts once in a while, but without the rigorous schedule of the program. On top of doing some p90x, I have been running 3 or 4 times a week. Now, seeing the really good result that my roommate is getting, I also want to actually start doing p90x, the way it’s suppose to be done. So my question is, given that I have been doing some p90x on and off for so long, should I start with phase II?
Hello Emma,
since you weren’t really sticking to the daily schedule, I would start from phase 1. The some of the workouts do change from phase to phase so I wouldn’t want you to miss out on working a particular part of your body.

Hello Sam,
towards the back of your fitness guide, there is a section that will tell you what workouts to do and for how long for maintenance. The schedule wont be as rigorous as the full program, but you will still need to work out 5 or 6 times per week. Just not as long each day.

I have a 5 month old infant and would like to begin workouts but have heard that extreme exercise can make breast milk toxic. Is this true?
What kind of adjustments do breastfeeding moms need to make while doing this workout?
Will I be able to maintain my milk supply throughout this program?
Thanks.

I’m about to begin p90x workout on monday and I had a question. I work from 3PM to 11:30PM so I don’t get up till 8:30-9:00 in the morning. Should I be eating my breakfast before or after my workout? Also, I purchased a P90x recovery formula which I’m suppose to be drinking right after my workout.Thanks.
Hello Greg.
If I had your schedule, I would get up, have something light and small just to put something in my stomach, do my workout, have my recovery drink, then an hour later have my breakfast. If you don’t think you can workout without eating a full meal, just eat before, but be sure to wait at least an hour after you eat before you start your workout.

I started at 278lbs and was riding my bike at a local track. I got down to 264, but could not lose additional weight. My wife bought the P90X for us (mainly me, she is 5’3″ 106). We are day 2 in week 7 and I am at 245lbs (about 3lbs week).
My question is we do our workouts later in the day after we get home, feed the kids, and get them in bed. It is sometimes around 9PM. Is this a bad thing? Would I lose more if we do the workouts at a different time? I try to stay up later if we do workout that late.
Hello Mike,
ideally, it’s better to workout in the morning because you get your body going and you can continue to burn calories for a little while after. With our busy lives, we can’t always stick to that rule so it’s better to workout when it’s most convenient for you. This way you aren’t setting yourself up for failure because it’s too hard to stick to an early morning workout. Honestly, it wont make that much of a difference if you are working hard every night.

Hey I’m a 16 year old, 5’6 170 and I’ve been dieing to do this program, I’ve gone to the gym n the past in late 2009 I was 125 and fit and I gain all the weight back, should I go ahead and get P90x or do power 90 first? also is it mandatory for me to follow the full diet, since I’m a teen?
Hello Daniel,
you can start with P90X if you can pass the fitness test, otherwise, starting with Power 90 will allow you to ease your way into this kind of exercise.
Fit test:

It’s better to follow the nutrition plan, but as a teen, you wont be hurting your results that much if you don’t as an older person would be. That’s not to say that you can eat fast food and get away with it! You should try and eat as “cleanly” as possible. Take a look at the nutrition plan and take some tips from it. If you stick to the daily servings and calories at least, you should be ok.

I have all of the videos for p90x but my start up video is scratched so basically all I have is a bunch of workout DVD’s and no idea where to start. Also, my workbook log got ruined and I was wondering if you sell those separately?
As for results, I am 5’9 and weigh just about 150 lbs. I am willing to put in the time and effort each day, follow the nutrition guide to the science, and just want to get as big as possible, what is the best way to achieve maximum size?

I am in the second phase of P90X. I was in decent shape before but mostly from running so no real muscle. It’s been going pretty well (I can get through the workouts pretty well although with lower weight) but the kenpo is killing me. Not from lack of cardio but throwing the punches (and I know this might sound sissy) is tweaking my middle back especially after a strong back workout the day before and the kicks irritate my lower back. I have a history of back issues and was wondering if I’m doing something wrong or if I should face reality and just substitute another cardio workout for kenpo? For the first time today I stopped a workout and it was kendo, which was always the easiest one in terms of exertion levels. Thoughts?

Hi,
I’m 3 days in to the p90x program (doing the lean version). I’m 23 years old 5’0 and 140lb and approx. 27% body fat. I’m looking to lose 30-35 pounds. I’m concerned about how many calories I should be taking in per day. Also I’m very busy with work, school, and a 3 year old so I’ve been eating lean cuisine meals with mini protein snacks (protein bar, eggs, etc) in between meals. Is this okay or do you have better options? I do’t have much time to cook.. Thanks!

I am just finishing my P90X workout program. What follow up to this should I do to maintain what I have done? I did not see anything in my program to do “after” P90X. I would appreciate any advice.

I am currently breastfeeding my 2 month old full-time. I want to begin the classic version next week. Instead of starting out with phase 1 of the nutrition plan, should i go right to phase 3 to keep up with the demands of breastfeeding and caloric intake? My Dr. is unfamiliar with this program and i’m not sure if you have another nutritional program for mom’s like me that desperatly want to get back into shape and still give our babies the best food i can. Thanks for your help.

I’ve been doing the program and following the diet for six days. While initially I felt very full, yesterday I was absolutely starving and had to go over the recommendations, although I did stick to extra protein only. If this hunger continues is that OK? Also, I’m eating two snacks a day most days (non-fat frozen yoghurt) and am hoping you can help me justify it. : ) I don’t eat the shakes or protein bars – that type of food has always made me feel unwell, sort of like empty calorie snacking, don’t know why – and so hope that the frozen yoghurt consumption is a bit balanced out by that. Or is there just no cheating allowed? I have only lost one pound so far.
Thanks for the help.

Hello, I am definitley interested in purchasing the p90x for me and my partner. Im just wondering, if I stick to the plan with 100% commitment will I be able to lose the 36-40lbs I will overweight by? I currently have a 9month old baby, which I did not sucessfully lose my baby weight from, I am now pregnant again. I’m very worried that I will never be able to get my pre-pregnancy shape back. I did try the gym after my first baby for 3 months with absolutely no results. Please help!
Hello Gemma,
I wouldn’t start this program while you are pregnant, but you want to try after you give birth, I would give yourself at least 6 weeks to recover. Also, if this is your plan, ask your doctor about working out and breast feeding. I don’t knot too much about that subject, but I do know if you work out too much, this could effect the quality of your milk.
This program usually gives people, who might do the same routine in the gym, noticeable results because of the dramatic change in routine. It would be nice to be able to go to the gym 3 times a week for 20 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical for the rest of your life to lose and maintain a healthy weight, but unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. When your body gets too used to the same activities, it just stops responding.
